Where does everyone live? (General area)
redhead_che replied to it'sonlythefirststep's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Woot woot! *wave* -
I've had this issue before where I felt really bloated after eating really small amounts of stuff. TMI: Needed to poop! Are you constipated at all? I took something to help that issue and the next day all was well

Calories too low? I’m so tired
redhead_che replied to Yettid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same. I'm 3 months ish out from surgery and I barely make 550 calories a day. My nutritionist and doc say it's more about getting in your fluid requirement and protein. So if I get my 60 grams of protein and 64oz water in and it only took 500 calories, whoop-de-doo But they both say that will pass at some point--but my primary focus should be protein amount. I do feel tired sometimes on such low fuel, but I've lost a good amount of weight so it's working? -
High liver enzymes
redhead_che replied to ZaylaEmora24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 2 month blood work last month and had high liver enzymes. My doc said it was because of the rapid weight loss and the liver is working harder. Doc said it was normal at this stage. -
I must be a total wuss I took advantage of the IV pain meds (I think it was morphine/toradol?) But after I discharged I only had to take a hydrocodone like, twice. It got a LOT better the more I moved around at home.

Starting BMI was 32. Sleeved 11/28, down 52lbs. Don't regret it for one second!

Help? Advice? November 2017 Sleeved
redhead_che replied to dgnzlz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved 11/28 and down 55lbs, BUT I just want to throw out there that people in this position are struggling in their own ways too. Hair falling out, GI issues, and frequent nausea here. But it's worth it regardless to me. I'll cut my hair short, take PPIs or whatever, and make my pukey face all day if I have to! But we all got this! -
Favorite things you can do now that you couldn't before, or things you're looking forward to doing?
redhead_che replied to GeekSweetheart's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can't wait to fit into my White House Black Market size 8s again....and then hopefully a few months later be too small for them Also can't wait for the day BF picks me up and I don't immediately cringe and say "PUT ME DOWN DARNIT" because I'm self conscious... Can't wait to buy a bra from Victoria's Secret again...or just any bra without the thickest straps in America. Sheesh. -

Me too! -
Sleeved 11/28. -50lbs today and realized all the pants in my "those don't fit" closet now DO fit and I did much rearranging tonight to make room for the 10 pairs of pants I can wear again! Only a few formal dresses and 2 pairs of jeans remain in the "don't fit" closet. Getting closer.... Barely making over 500 calories...mostly I hover in the 400s somewhere. My nutritionist says as long as I meet my protein goal (60-70g) and water goal (64oz) in a day, calories aren't important. She said 800 cals/day is a good goal to work towards. And then there was that whole thing about "don't drink your breakfast" aka protein shake--eat an actual meal. Well, I don't eat real food that early in the morning so HMPH. The protein shake stays. Hopefully by 3/28 I'll be in the 160s! Gosh that'd be amazzzinggg.

Those who are on psych meds, bi-polar, anxiety, depression.
redhead_che replied to kandywolf's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I took anxiety meds before and still do after surgery. My only complaint is in addition to the calcium and the vitamins, it's a stupid amount of meds to take in a day! Small price to pay for a healthier life though I suppose -
I walked and walked and walked some more after surgery to get the gas pains out and keep my body moving. I wasn't allowed to do any sort of work out including weights or ab focused exercises until 8 weeks out. Every program is different though! Now that I'm almost 3 months out I'm walking outside when it's nice and doing Jillian Michaels DVDs or riding my stationary bike when it isn't I'm not super into weight training yet, but baby steps. I hated exercise before my surgery so this is huge progress for me.

I relate to this so much. I'm so pleased with my progress so far and I noticed recently I talk about it A LOT to my boyfriend and mom. And God bless them...they haven't told me to stuff it or talk about something else because they KNOW how hard I'm working. I'm 2 pounds away from that -50lbs mark and I mentioned that yesterday to both of them separately and got a "good job" (half-hearted). I had to place myself in their shoes for a minute. I realized they are both so proud of me, but neither one of them understands exactly what the process is and how much it means to me. They're just happy I'm happy. And because I like to talk about all the new things I'm learning after my sleeve, all they hear about is work and sleeve, rinse and repeat. So sorry this happened to you, but I agree with some other folks that posted, they might not get how BIG of a deal this is to you, how happy you are, how proud you are, etc because it's not their journey--they're just along for the ride.

Going back to work after vsg
redhead_che replied to Rudedogg89's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I took 3 weeks because I had the hours accrued, but surgeon said I could have gone back at 2 weeks post op. I felt I needed a little more time. -
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST PROTEIN TO TAKE?
redhead_che replied to BGOV1225's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use gnc brands. 100 calories and 25 grams of protein for one scoop. I mix in water. My favorite so far is the peanut butter. -
I would agree with a few others. I took pills before surgery and now I take double that due to vitamins and calcium. It’s totally worth it but sometimes if I’m not thinking I’ll take some on an empty stomach and have burning pain for the next hour. I’d also say protein powder is expensive or the ready to drink protein, which is common to be using in the early post op. I still use protein powder and grumble about the cost. But I do save in my general grocery bill just because I don’t eat much

Surgery was 11/28, started at 225 and now I’m 182. My first big goal is to get to 170 and have a sip of wine as a treat since it’s been over 2 months out and if it goes horribly wrong, I can still dance around and be happy about the weight!

Tips for social eating?
redhead_che replied to kaydo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I worried about this so much pre-surgery but post surgery (8 weeks out now) I can say I received a question about my plate/food only TWICE. Which led me to believe no one freaking cares At least my group doesn't. I eat lunch with about 8 gals every day and they just don't say anything and only one of them knows about my surgery. -
Exercise / abdominal
redhead_che replied to Lainey H's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started walking day after surgery and kept adding to the distance and time as I got further out from surgery. I was walking 2 miles a day about 2 weeks out. Now I'm 8 weeks out and using a stationary bike and Jillian Michaels DVDs. I notice fatigue pretty quick on the ab portions of the DVDs but it's nothing awful. -
How Wild is Post-Op Grocery Shopping!

I noticed this too! Thankfully I too have someone to finish my portions. Still getting the hang of that. We also have containers of random foods half eaten -
Ladies PMS Question... Help...
redhead_che replied to Yosy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got mine 3 days after surgery and it lasted 10 days because I was previously on the pill. It was awful in terms of thinking every day "is it over yet?" And heavier than I'm used to. After this next one, bring back the pills darnit! -
What’s your favorite ready to drink protein? I have premier protein banana flavor which isn’t terrible...and then isopure alpine punch. I’m not in love with either of them. I know all tastes are different, but thought I’d ask anyway I’ve got plenty of protein powder choices, but not much experience with the grab and go drinks!

Immediate post-op food ideas- pureed foods at 3 days post-op
redhead_che replied to greygoosecytosis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the isopure zero carb! I don’t love it but it’s tolerable. And in regards to vitamins, my program was very specific on when to start. I take Journey bariatric vitamins 2x/day and that started week 2. I start calcium citrate week 4. Also 2x/day. -
Silly Anesthesia Question
redhead_che replied to inthekeyofp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’ve always reacted poorly to anesthesia (nausea) but I’ve never said anything wonky because of that. I will say I was giggly when they put in the IV Benedryl and anti anxiety medicine. [emoji847] -

I liked this recipe for advancing slowly. It’s a bunch of cheese and sauce basically but it’s good! This lady’s whole blog has been helpful to me. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html?m=1
