    Circuit training

So I’ve been in a stall for the last month, toying with the same 2 pounds. With the help of a fitness guru coworker, she created ~45 minute circuits for me to do at the gym. Yesterday’s was “leg, back, biceps” and it was SO challenging which is just what I needed. It’s definitely a far departure from my usual . Today I’m super sore, but stretching a lot since tomorrow is circuit #2–arms. Hoping this eventually jolts me out of my stall, but it’ll probably take time—these muscles are like “the heck you doing to me woman?!” 😂 I’m hoping with a little protein before and after the workout I won’t need a calorie adjustment. 500-600 calories has served me well most of the time, it’s really been getting a meaningful gym workout causing me to rut I think (either not going or doing less than I’m capable of) and I also cut out alcohol and coffee this month, just to make sure I wasn’t sabotaging myself with that! Cheers to changing things up and hoping for a reward? 🤔💪😊

    Protein shakes

I love syntrax nectar brand. I had to go through a lot of crappy protein powders to find this one I like. I’m liking the fuzzy navel flavor (tastes like orange juice) and the Oreo one!

    bathing suit shopping

I would not buy two. You lose pretty quick early on and I went through sizes 16, 14, and 12 very quickly in the first 4 months. At month 4 I was in a 10! I think one item of a seasonal thing like a swimsuit would be enough. But I’m super frugal. And I’m not sure how inclined people are to buy used swimsuits? Just my two cents!
  5. It’s interesting to think about. My mom was obese, had gastric bypass when I was a teenager. I had the sleeve 7 months ago. Genetics can be a b.... hopefully someone talks to her soon about a healthier lifestyle. But even if they did it may not stick. It didn’t for me until this ☹️
  6. I’m 27. Almost 7 months post op. The past month has been bouncing between 147-148 and it stinks. But I’m just trying to change some things up and see what works. Still a goal of reaching 127-130!

    Fear of death?

First, hi to a fellow KCMO pal! 👏 Second, yes I thought about this. But I just talked myself through it. And actually the morning of surgery I was cool as a cucumber...it’s that week before that got me going “what if” to everything.

    Coping strategies

Is there an employee assistance program through your work that offers a certain amount of counseling sessions at no charge? Some employers offer that. As I was reading your post the first thing that popped into my mind was “therapy” and even play therapy for your kiddos possibly. That’s a life changing event and very large transition for everyone. Good vibes for you and your family!
  9. Tilapia fillets with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika as seasonings. I’ve had it 3 times this week

    Depression and anxiety

I take something for anxiety, but it’s a small pill. Pre op they told me I could even take one the morning of surgery. Post op my surgeon said it was fine to swallow. Which was a welcome surprise because anxiety meds taste like 💩 when crushed 😂

    Before and After Pics

We broke up, but I have no other “before” pictures so I always use that one 😂
  12. It’s interesting because I too thought a lot of my issues in life were weight related. I used to tell myself “well you have such bad anxiety now because you got so fat. If you were skinny again you wouldn’t be so anxious” 7 months out from surgery and about 80lbs down and that is a big fat lie 😂 turns out I can’t blame all my issues on my previously fat self.
  13. Almost 7 months out and barely making 600 calories a day. And only meeting protein with a shake as breakfast. I personally like the restriction still being what it is. My nutritionist says it’s totally fine to still be doing a shake, as long as it is once a day. I would say rice for a lot of people post op is very filling and can cause discomfort. Perhaps eliminating the rice component would help? Like a chicken and broccoli dish no rice? That’s my only thought. I can eat 4 pieces of the kind of sushi that has rice and be done-zo and super bloated. But that’s just me.

    Kickboxing Post-Op

Yes. But only 8 weeks after surgery. That was my restriction from the surgeon. And I really didn’t do it much until the 4 month mark but that was more of a personal choice.

    Partner issues after wls

I agree with what someone else said, there is always the possibility it’s not your “person” as I like to say. While the surgery itself didn’t break up my relationship, it did bring to light areas I was unhappy in previously and with newfound confidence...I realized I didn’t have to “make it work” because I didn’t want to. Now, it doesn’t sound like that is your situation, but I just wanted to offer a crumb of the other possibility as well. (And I also believe in therapy...everyone needs therapy) 😂
  16. Same as many others, I also first ate fat free refried beans and scrambled eggs (definitely not together)
  17. I like @Matt Z‘s answer a lot. I will say I’m 20lbs away from goal and it has been a fight. The only thing that’s worked for me has been to change something in my eating routine and add another weekly workout. I think what I’m technically doing is fasting for a day and then going back to my normal and it shakes things up a bit. Like 350cal vs my usual 5-6. So it isn’t super drastic. Bodies can get stuck in a rut, throw it off with a change!

    Back to work today

I took off 3 weeks. The last week I was getting kind of stir crazy. But I took it really slow at work since I'm on my feet a lot. Thankfully my coworkers (mostly) minded their own business and a lot of stuff was a pretty easy adjustment like small lunches, waiting 30 minutes to eat after drinking etc etc.

Do Protein shakes count as water intake?

Mine said yes. Aaaaand I still count them as water 6 months out. But I make mine with water and powder only so I think that’s ok 🤔

    November sleevers here

I don’t have any hair pictures, mine looks the same to most people. Only I get the joy and knowledge of pulling it out of my hair brush and shower drain daily 🙄 everyone’s hair loss is different though.
  21. This makes me giggle because I watched The Great British Baking Show obsessively after my surgery on my 3 week leave. I hate baking shows typically but that’s all I could watch! And now I hate them again but right after surgery it was oddly just want I wanted.

    Pre-Surgery Blues?

I had probably a week worth of anxiety about the surgery and then the morning of...it sounds silly but I woke up with this clarity and no anxiety. Like yeah, this is what I need to do to better my life and change the direction my future is going. The pre-op diet definitely messed with my emotions--I was a hungry, irritable, headache-y you know what! So that didn't help either. But I also agree with Creek, the process of re-working your relationship with food is a head-spinner too. I didn't have a "food funeral" like some people do, which was helpful for me in the long term. Also post op I couldn't even think about real food until I got to that stage in recovery--it's a rollercoaster. But you just have to be along for the ride and work it!

Dating after surgery and weight loss

I just had a break up about a month ago with the guy that I was with pre and post surgery, but I've already thought about dating again. I think it will be a lot different as a sleeved person, mostly logistics wise--I'm already thinking about suggesting coffee dates over food dates, or dates that involve no food at all! I look a lot better on the outside, but inside I'm still super shy and introverted, so it's probably going to be just as difficult

    November sleevers here

Keeping this thread alive with another progress pic! Most days when I look in be mirror I don’t see the change as much, but when I make these side by side pictures, I can’t NOT see it. Everyone doing OK? Any 6 month struggles? I have 20lbs to go and it is much slower, but otherwise all is well. Aside from the hair loss I guess. Man that can stop anyyyyyy day now 😒 #progressSunday
  25. I found the best practice in my area with the highest ratings and accreditation, then picked the surgeon who started that practice for my surgery 😊
