Yep, I go home on 19th. 6 nights here. The open surgery means they keep you in longer - but the up side, no gas pain!

Well, made it through the wait period. Tomorrow, early, is my RNY (and band removal). Am I well prepared? I don’t really know but the words Water, Protein and Vitamins are floating around, and the rest will come as it comes. Thanks to you all, your knowledge sharing is a God-send. See you on the shrinking side...

So far, 27 hours after the op was finished, I am doing well. 4 Small walks down the corridor, up to clean teeth etc. seriously, not nearly as bad as I expected. Feel a bit like I have had a kick in the chest, deep breathing hurst - from the rib spreader during the op. My op was open - that dull ache is the result, but on the other hand I have no ‘air’ pain. I had that after laparoscopic band placement. Only 4 days til I get out!

And here I am, 24 hours in. Went well, no nausea. Mine was open surgery, with nand removal, so I feel a bit “kicked in the chest” but otherwise all good. Have had ice to aid dry mouth. Really, nothing too hard at this point!

I think you are in theatre as I type this. I am a bit sore now, 13 hours post op, but very manageable. It is 1am and was woken for blood pressure, and got ice. Might be my nicest foot this week!!

Sitting here in the “show your bum” hospital gown, grateful for the paper undies! Now it is here, in an hour, I am less nervous. Like all of you, I will rock this thing. xx

Wow! Amazing! I have two pair of size 20 pants that are looking worn - I have resisted replacing them as. I go in to hospital tomorrow and then it is 5 weeks till I am crack at work - trying to work out if I will have dropped a size! Seems like “it varies” is the answer - like so much here!!

But just to celebrate - you lose weight FAST on the liquid only diet!!

Hi sorry to ask again - no replies last time. Is there anyone here who has had the RNY by open surgery, rather than the more common laparoscopic surgery? Keen to talk through the particulars...

I have a broken band and port and surgical mesh to come out, which has created a bit of damage. Open surgery needed for hand stitching and ensuring the damaged bits won’t cause leaks. “It is worth it” I keep telling myself!

I just bought the Fresh Start Bariatric Cookbook (there is s kindle version on Amazon) and I love it already!

Thanks for the cookbook recommendation. I just got it in kindle - GREAT cos my surgeon has given me only very vague liquid to purée to soft to normal eating directions!

I feel like someone I don’t like very much! I am glad I only have three liquid days - the only benefit I can think of by having a surgeon who does RNY by open surgery - I am having an old broken gastric band taken out. i hope no one will notice the liquid diet - I have recently developed a new ‘love’ for miso soup at lunch, so I will just add protein to that. what date is your op?

Hiya Christina109 I am four sleeps away from my surgery, and don’t start my liquid-only until tomorrow. But I have also noticed pretty obvious mood change - in my case, I have become grumpy b***h from hell! I have a pretty stressful job but (usually) a very even temperament which makes me very good at the job. But the last week - eek. So, for me, definitely not hormones, just stress. I felt a bit relieved when I read posts here - it is a big unknown. Giving up my great life comfort (food), a bit of pain etc to start, and the big unknown. Lucky we have each other, I reckon...... xxxx

How are you doing now? Is your pain from the laproscopy gas? you have been in my thoughts as you start your journey. For me, 4 more sleeps. Start my three-day liquid diet tomorrow...

Did you have scopaderm patches behind your ear to control for nausea? They make your vision blurry, and it rights itself soon after they are removed!

I ordered a range of protein off the BariatricPal website. The range here in New Zealand is smaller. Thanks for the advice - a great range of 15 Syntrax Nectar flavours, as well as soups, shakes. 11 days from order to deliver, and easy through our border security. Thanks for your help, website people - good to have stock in, and a range to keep me feeling less deprived post surgery in - gulp - 2.5 weeks...
