Rapid weight gain
Biddy zz π³οΈπ replied to kathymae's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Donβt know about normal, but when my band malfinctioned and was emptied, I gained back 2/3 of my lost weight. The band helped me lose weight and was great - but once it wasnβt doing its job, the old me habits were just there waiting to emerge! I just had mine removed, revision to a bypass. Best of luck on YOUR journey... -

Hi All, I think changing my type of food will be easy but regulating my (usually front end loader style) eating speed is likely to be a challenge. 5 days post op, ate 3 tspns of yoghurt today over 40 minutes. Wow. Iβd love to hear how fast others eat, and how you learned to regulate it? Thanks team! -

On cloud nine.."bread"

Ooh ohh, I found one more thing - you can add 1/4 scoop of plain whey isolate to the beaten yolks - gives the rolls a more breads texture, and doubles the protein. Revolution Rolls or Oopsie rolls x some great variations by googling... -

I am one week post-op today, bypass with open (not laparoscopic)] surgery. Been out of hospital two days and it is going well. Struggled with drinking too fast at first - sharp tummy pains after - but now I have slowed right down I am on track. Still only at 40oz water, but that is picking up. 40g protein yesterday - not enough hours in a day to get trough! Each day, less pain and I feel better. Donβt weigh myself until I get home on 26th but my jeans are a little looser! -

Thank you, thank you. These comments are so helpful. Given I can drink a protein shake in 15 minutes (which feels painfully slow!] and only suffer the sharp pains later, Iβm going to have to use rules! The stopwatch idea is great! Yesterday I took it slow-slow all day, and - no pains last night, a great sleep, and I feel really good this morning. Sincere thanks. -

Yep - the all important lines about how to cook them has been cut from the recipe!!! found it elsewhere - divide the mix into 6 mounds on tray with baking paper, and flatten a bit. Bake for 30 mins. Big key - folding the two parts gently together so not to lose the air bubbles in the egg white part... -

Thanks to you all. I am only 5 days post op, but I am finding it hard to βreadβ my new stomach message. I had my first protein shake yesterday - - thought I was slow by taking 15 mins to drink the 6 ozthink it was too fast. All went down fine, but about an hour later I had sharp tummy pains - nothing chronic but I thought it felt like a complaint. The surgeon said I would feel a knot in my chest if I ate too much or fast, but it didnβt happen. So, I am now having todayβs protein shake, but 6 oz over an hour. Iβll let you know in a couple of hours if that did the trick! -
Hi all I had my broken gastric band out and revision to RNY on Thursday 16th (4 days ago). Due out of hospital on 23rd, but I am being discharged today as it has gone so well! Why so long? My surgeon only does this by open surgery. Compared to the band, it has been a breeze! Good pain management, and I have had no nausea at all. Lots of sleeping, 1/2 watching tv. Day 2 (Friday) ice chips Day 3 Water, 30ml an hour, and clear broth for dinner Day 4 Water, 60ml an hour in the morning, Apple juice 90ml afternoon. Day 5 1tspn yoghurt for Breakfast, two tsp purΓ©ed fish for lunch. Once I go, it is back to liquids for a week, but we all know the purΓ©e passes through fine. I feel mighty! (Oh yes - thanks to whoever warned me - once you start passing wind, you are not good to know! Hope that stink subsides quickly, or I will suffocate alone in my wee hotel room!) so now the journey begins...

Could Someone 'Splain This To Me?
Biddy zz π³οΈπ replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am in New Zealand, and my instructions were more vague than the ones I see posted here. Here we do almost no gastric surgery in public hospitals (most healthcare is free, public) so people pay to do it privately (here private hospitals, and insurance, is for things that are non essential, or where you donβt want to be on a wait list eg for a new hip for months). My private insurance paid 25% - they had no pre surgery requirements - decide to do it, op within a month. I paid 75% My post op plan is clear about the need to transition from clear liquid - liquids - purΓ©e - Mash - soft food, but the timetable is all up to me. And it isnβt as clear as it could be about the pace of eating/drinking, I think. So I have lifted a set from this forum, and am happily sticking to those. My surgeon was ok with it, but also ok with setting my own timetable. I am happier being directed - after all, making good food choices isnβt exactly my thing, right? π€£π€£π€£ -
4 days out of surgery
Biddy zz π³οΈπ replied to insul817's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks. This is a great help. I drank my first protein shake yesterday - 8oz probably over 15 mins. I had no trouble, but was sort of expecting to feel resistance like with the gastric band I had - nothing. But this morning I had a bit of a sharp tummy ache. The first pain I have had with this! Settling now. Slow right down - heck, that will probably be my big challenge! Thanks. Glad to hear your surgery went so well too. Arenβt we brave! -

Hi there I am 5 days post op. I notice I canβt sort of read any βfeedback loopβ from my tummy on how much or fast to drink. My doctorβs instructions are very vague. Can you tell me, how long should you be taking to drink a glass of fluid? -

Hospital discharge today!
Biddy zz π³οΈπ replied to Biddy zz π³οΈπ's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks, All! Hard times because my partnerβs lovely dad died Saturday, so I have not been there supporting the family, but instead have been lying in hospital recovering alone! Now in the hotel, I had a cup of coffee (decaf) to start my day, hoping I am up to being at the funeral Friday... -
Serious COLD FEET!!!!!
Biddy zz π³οΈπ replied to SampTheChamp's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi SampTheChamp I am only four days post surgery. The night before I wanted to cancel. But I didnβt - and it turns out the surgery wasnβt so hard. My experience was that the worry was way worse than the surgery. So now it is done, and when you are done, we just become people who rise to each new challenge - canβt eat THAT, so Iβll try this instead. Canβt eat that much? Ok, so now I do smaller portions. Here in New Zealand they transition you to food much quicker than I see in the US. I had purΓ©ed fish for lunch. 2 teaspoons of it. Heaven. As they say here, Kia kaha, SampTheChamp, Kia kaha. Be strong, SampTheChamp, you are strong. -

Thanks! 48 hours after op, and just sipped 30ml water - it all went down, which is a good sign. Pain pretty much gone- up doing little walks every 3 hours. Way easier than I 8magined! -
RNY in TWO DAYS!!!!
Biddy zz π³οΈπ replied to ewilliams4491's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No, this surgeon does them open only, esp when his is taking the band out too. He hand sews, not staples, and feels he gets a better result. No real pain from incision at this point, and a scar no-one but me and mine will see, so I was ok with that.
