Positive Pregnancy Test 4 days after VSG Surgery
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to new_chic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Some good advice here. You wonโt be the first post-op to also be pregnant. Work to keep your stress down, though - best thing you can do to help the two of you (and your partner if there is one about) get through this next few months in good shape. There are great resources to be sure you get what nutrition you need, and wee bubba does too. Lean on your team - they are your guide. And every good wish to you... -
Maybe not for much longer, though?! I have dropped to a DD and from a 16 to a 12 (New Zealand sidings). Canโt tell you how good that is!!

Weight issues after 6 months post op

A pound most weeks is considered good by my doc, at our stage (I am 5.5 month post op) with the odd stall... -
Stall a complete week and this week
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to amartinez8853's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your weight loss is GREAT! I weigh daily, and it works for me. My first stall freaked me out, but now I see there is a rhythm to them, so I am less bothered. By the way, for long-term keeping it off, daily weighing is strongly correlated with keeping weight off. Also - I often find I suddenly drop a size in top or pants while I am in a stall - which makes them SO much easier to bear! -
Do tired of vomiting
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is appalling. Scopaderm patches behind the ear are hugely effective - no swallowing. They should be fighting this - for your mental health as well as your body too. Good luck in your hard talks with them... -
Protein first, then veggies, then whatever you like. That is ok but.... seems like many folks get a bit of a kickstart by dropping those carbs down really low. Is working for me......

Freaking out!!
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to fluffyandiknowit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi guys Freaking out is NORMAL!! You are about to change your life, and it is all a bit unknown - I reckon a freak out shows you have really thought this through. Let me say - it is the single best decision I have ever made in my life (except my marriage, I have just been told to point out ๐คฃ). And weโre here for any rough spots in the journey, if you have them! -
8 months past RNY
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to zallykatz16's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey @zallykatz16 Sounds to me like you know what you need to do! If you chuck the Diet Coke (I drink fizzy water - with a dash of apple juice, or cranberry, or lime juice). And trim the carbs. Youโll have a couple of tough weeks, but remember all those yummy proteiny foods. Halloumi! Salmon! Whatever rocks your boat. Takes a couple of weeks for the โI need sweet stuffโ to wear off again - I notice if I have Diet Coke, my craving for other sweets just steps up. Or - go full drastic and repeat your post op diet - liquid phase, purรฉe, soft food. Many report that works. Kebep coming back here. Lean for support, front up, be honest, get on track..... -
Looking for advice
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to a time to change's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My story was different but I did convert from lap band to RNY. If you do end up going that was, I can say that it is WAY easier to lose weight on a bypass than a band! Goid luck with the journey - stay in touch... -
Kind of weird question but didn't want to sound like an idiot during my final consultation.
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to GreatPyrMom's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If it is any help, I had one of those โswallow a cameraโ test before my lap band was revised to RNY. He put the camera down, through my stomach, and into the top of the intestine past the stomach. I had to fast 12 hours first - and the entire area I watched on camera was as clean as a whistle! So, the bit they cut/sew/staple is clean as, after just 12 hours! -
Weight loss stall...after revision... not yet a year

His rule - no snacks. Strictly three meals a day. His patients have a very low level of weight regain. So clearly it works! -
Your Hospital Experience
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to NewLifeAhead66's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hiya This is the tough part! Donโt fret though - it gets easier real quick. I remember th8nking โhow will I drink 8 oz of fluid - 1 sip every 10 mins and I am done!!โ But pretty quickly I could sip away reasonably constantly. I had open surgery so no gas pain, and slept in a recliner chair for 5 nights - after that, lying flat was fine. My surgeon had me eating solids before I left hospital (I know many keep you on liquid/soft food for weeks) and that was pretty easy too. Patience is the name of the game for you now! -
Weight loss stall...after revision... not yet a year
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to astarwalker's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi @astarwalker I am a band to RNY revision. My band was 10 years ago, and my RNY just pre Christmas. I am now almost 20 lbs lower than I ever achieved with the band. I am on maybe 700-80 calories a day. I suck at getting my water in (excuse the pun) and like you work 14 hours a day and my exercise aim is slight! I have an Apple Watch and try and get 15 mins heart rate elevation exercise a day by taking stairs to visit staff across floors at work! My carbs: try for below 50 but certainly below 70g a day carbs, and 20g sugars. Most days 50g protein, sometimes 60g. Strictly 3 meals a day - my surgeon, who is following 1700 bypass folk in a longitudinal study, is adamant this is the key determinant of success. No snacking. Ever. I adhere 9/10 days... -
Terrible acid reflux and RNY death rate

My doc said 1/2000. Quite a difference! He did lose one patient to a clot - same rate as other comparable surgeries of that operation length... -

Clock Is Ticking
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to mckenzie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Freaking out is normal! Just ride it out. My surgeon has hundreds of patients he has been following for years and years. His feedback - younger is WAY easier. Better skin bounce back, start your adult life with decent eating habits (cos this surgery is really just a tool to force us to change how we eat. So wish I had done this at 21! Hang in there. Yell if you need any reassurance. Most of us went through an โI want to cancelโ stage!! Xxxxx -
Week 2 no weight loss?!
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to baribetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there Panic not! They pump so much liquid into you during surgery that many people gain a few pounds. Stick to your plan and I promise you, it will start to drop away soon..... -
Super slow weight loss
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to Yadifan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pretty normal - go for a hunt on these threads about the three week stall, and the three month stall and youโll see they are both common! It will pass, just stick to your plan. 50lbs in 12 weeks is amazing, of course! No diet gets you that! Bit hard to tell cos your profile doesnโt give us your weight or goal - but rest assured, stalls are normal. I often find I lose SIZE in a stall! -
Leak-JP drain and stint
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to DianeB1960's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This sounds very odd and I really think you need to ring your surgeon. Cproably a coincidence, but if not it would be serious. Call - let us know? -
Can it be a secret?
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to lessismore1001's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi there! Welcome!! I had my band out just before Christmas and revision to RNY. Best thing I ever did! Yes you can keep it secret. The first month or two isnโt hard at all (esp if you are โon leaveโ for the op itself). Within a week youโll likely be up and about, many return to light duties. I needed 3 weeks but had full open 5 hour surgery. I am 5 months out. NOW it is hard to keep it secret! I look normal. People who saw me 3 months ago when I was 20 or 25kg weightloss didnโt really notice - but the last 10kg I have gone from chubby to normal - and it is dramatic. NOW people are asking if I am well etc. If you want to keep it private, and I did because I am a sort of public figure, then in those early months make it clear you are dieting hard, on a high calorie restriction diet like optimist (All will be true, so no problem!) and also have people see you exercise. I do the stairs at work, 7 stories, and people see it and talk - positively. All of this is not RNY specific - any optifast-type severe calorie diet will do the same - my strong recommendation is, use that early food-restrictive time to get people used to โyouโre gonna get thinโ - and double benefit is youโll find some buddies who will help you stay on track with it all!! Good luck! -
A non-scale victory (sort of) I am a โbathโ girl. Pretty much every evening, for an hour, I soak in a tub of hot water and sometes read or do emails or come here to you all, my buddies. I have a gas califont that auto sets - so I just push the โbath fillโ button and it gives me 110 litres at 45 degrees - and then the water stops running. Now I noticed two or three weeks ago, it doesnโt feel as luxurious and realised the water isnโt covering my chest and keeping All of me toasty warm. Weightloss! My bum doesnโt press up against the sides of the bath any more - in fact I can fit my arms between my hips and the bath. So I have upped my bath quantity - by 30 litres. I figure 30kg (65lbs) is about 30 litres. Perfect...

NSV - in the bathtub

When the wound was properly healed all along - I had open surgery and a 7 inch would. Only took about 8 days, and with no bath it felt like 80! -
trying to stay on track
Biddy zz ๐ณ๏ธ๐ replied to loving718's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there Every doctor has wildly different plans, with some common points. I was eating chicken, fish before I left the hospital! But, that said, your best course is to follow your doctor as much as you can. A few reasons - firstly, so you donโt damage your newly healing Internet wound. But mostly, over this time period, your main job is to develop new eating habits. Hard but it gets easier - but weight loss will only get harder. Now is the time to cut your carbs, retrain your tastebuds, and shift how you think and feel about food. Your surgeonโs plan, and sticking to it to the best of your ability, is an important part of that. It gets easier, I promise! -
Change positions cos of pudgy-loss - ok. ๐๐ป๐๐ฅ Thanks (she said, smiling quietly to herself)

I was mostly impressed that after pre-op diet and the post-op liquid diet, it was your pooch that might eat the wee furry meat ball pups, not you - that would REALLY give your neighbours something to be upset about i started dog walking. The dogs, a big one and a wee one, love it now I job/walk/jog etc. and so do I, to be honest. Just take it gently - watch the twinges and progress in steps. This surgery makes you really good at learning to notice and understand all your bodyโs signals!
