I was banded Mon. 10/20 and I'm 4 days post op. I'm beginning to feel some better but I still have pain in my port area, gas from hell, slight headache, no diareha(sp?) kinda achy but still really weak. I had hernia repair also but it doesn't hurt as much as the port. But even through it all, I would do it again.

I was banded Mon. 10/20 and have been doing better each day. The gas is no joke!!! I have been walking alot and that is helping. My incisions aren't as sore except for the port one. I can feel the port and that is weird but I know that it will be better too. My whole hosp. experience was wonderful. I also had a hernia repaired which I didn't know was there but through it all I would do it again in a second because I know what a life changing surgery this is. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers!!!

Anyone not have to do 6 months w/BC BS PPO?
karook54 replied to Mrsace13's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have BC/BS of Al PPO and I had to do the six months. I finished last month on the 18th, summited to ins. the 30th and had an approval by 4pm the same day. My surgery is Monday, Oct. 20th. If you do have to do the 6 mo., it goes by much faster than you think. Stay positve and it will over before you know it. Keep us posted. -
I went to see my surgeon one last time today and my surgery will be Monday, Oct. 20th!!! I can't believe it!! After all these months it is finally here. I check in to the hosp at 5 am. I'm so excited but also I'm alittle nervous now that I know when it will be. I hope that is normal because I will have it even if I'm crying the whole way to the O.R.! lol :smile2:

I'm from B'ham, Al and my surgery is Oct.20th. -
I will be going to see my surgeon one last time tomorrow before my surgery and I was wondering what it will consist of. Will they draw blood, do any test, etc? I haven't seen the anetheseologist yet. Will I do that also? I really don't know what to expect. Any input would be great.

Nothing tastes the same...
karook54 replied to BellaBean's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had a change with my taste but I haven't been as hungry or snacking as much since I found out my surgery is this month. I also haven't been drinking with my meals and I have noticed It doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I don't know why I'm having these changes but I'm not complaining. It just shows me I CAN do this. -
Good for you. I too am from Alabama and I will be banded by Dr. Cottingham at Brookwood in 2 weeks. I know you will find a lot of useful info on this site as well as very nice and caring people that will answer any questions or fears you might have as well as celebrate your success and help you through the bad times too. Good luck to you and hope to hear more from you.

First of all, welcome to the lapband world and be assured that you are making a good decision with your choice. I will be banded this month and I have learned so much about the lapband from this site as well as the internet. This site has truly helped me through my process (6 mo diet, dr.'s visit, etc). This is a wonderful support tool during your journey. Feel free to ask anything because there are knowledgeable, friendly and caring people on this site.Good luck!!!

How long did you wait for insurance approval?
karook54 replied to Froggi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called my dr's office around 12:30 to check on my process and make sure they had all they needed. They called me back around 3:30 with an approval. I was in shock! I thought it would be at least a week. By the way, I have BC/BS of Al. -
My ins. required a 6 mo supervised diet even thought I had 16 mo of documented records of Weight Watchers. I started my supervised dr. visits that mo. and I used my yearly gyn visit as one month. I had to go to the dr. for a total of 7 visits, so I would start as soon as possible and make sure you don't skip a month because the ins. co. will make you start over. Good luck

I faxed my medical records to the surgeon's office today around 12:45pm (they sent them to me instead of my doctor) and I had an approval by 4:00!!!!! I thought it would be a week at least. I already have an appt. with the pychologist next week! I have to see the dietican, physical therpist and my surgeon once more and I will have my date. My surgeon's cordinator said I would have my surgery within the next 2 weeks!!! YEAH!!!! I'm still in shock!!:lol:ll

October 1st is the big day!
karook54 replied to alteration's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on your date! How long did it take after your paperwork was submitted before your approval? I too am waiting on approval but I talk to my surgeon's asst. and she hasn't received all of my stuff yet. (my last 6 mo appt was the 18th)I hope to hear something by the end of the week. (hoping)Best of luck to you -
It sounds like you may have IBS ( Irritable Bowel Syndrome).I was diagnosed with it at 18. My symptoms are the opposite though. I never go to the bathroom unless I take meds for it. My sister also has it and she has the same symptoms as you do.(diarrhea, gas, cramps, immediate bowel movements after eating) I have learned over the years that what you eat has a huge impact on IBS as well as your stress level. There is no cure for it but a few lifestyle changes, you can make it toleratable. The only way to be sure if you have IBS is an colonoscopy. ( I'm 35 and I've had 2). Hope this helps.

I hate you have had such a hard time. I will be thinking of you.
-
Glad you are right with me! It feels like it went by faster that I expected but I tried to keep my mind from constantly thinking about it like I did in the beginning. I couldn't believe it was finally over! All those months of dr. visits that I thought would never end finally did. Now I'm waiting for ins. approval. I have to see the dietician and surgeon one more time then I should be given the ok for surgery. I wish they would go ahead and give me a date so I can plan around work, kid's activities, etc. But I won't complain too much because I'm just glad to finally be within reach of my surgery! Hope everything goes good with you. Keep me posted.

Thanks for the boost!! I'm excited and ready to start my new life.

Not to scare you, but my daughter went through 3 yrs of rotten eggs/ sulfur burps and soured stomach with abdominal and back pain. She had many test done and it was her gall bladder not functioning properly. She had it removed and she has done much better. ( She was 13 when she had surgery) Hope you get better soon.
