    Dec 19 band date

I was banded on the 17th and feel pretty good. I've eaten a bit, I'm not too hungry, so I've been supplementing with slim fast just to get the protein in. I'm on soft food now, and the Magic Bullet is just great for getting things soft. Egg salad never tasted so good! I went out yesterday to do some grocery shopping and such, and did a bit too much, but I'm doing well. Glad everyone is having good experiences!
  5. Wow.. I'm so sorry I didn't respond to you. I didn't realize this was on here. Yes I'm a dental hygienist. I came into the profession late in life, so I've only been practicing for 15 years. I landed a plum job with the health department 7 years ago, and LOVE it! I just got banded Dec 17th, so I'm in the new stage. I just had my first shower (that made me feel much better) and some scrambled eggs for breakfast. I'm very fearful of eating, so I'm taking it slow. Luckly I'm not really very hungry. Thanks for the post, and I'm sorry it's so late. Molly

What was the first thing you ate?

I purchased a Magic Bullet, and I had egg salad and some pimento cheese (just about a bite). I would recommend the Magic Bullet to anyone, It really processess things down as smooth as you want them. I had surgery on Wednesday, today I had some scrambled eggs. I'm still using the slim fast for my protein requirements. I'm not hungry at all. I'm going to do some chicken salad and tuna salad next. Food sure does taste good! I'm a bit scared of eating, so I'm not eating very much right now.
  7. HI there! you are on liquid diet day, I had dreaded it, but honestly it wasn't that bad. I stayed home from work, kept busy and did OK.

Now on to the surgery. It was just fine. I wish I could make you not nervous, but I was almost paniced! It all went so well! I had a bit of shoulder and neck pain yesterday. I did deep breathing and walking as much as I could (even just up and down the halls at home) I went in at 10:00and was in my house at 4. Today I'm sore..kinda like a did WAY too many situps. The shoulder and neck thing are gone. I didn't sleep well last night, mainly catnaps. But it's done, and I'OK. Taking it easy for a day or so on the couch with some movies.

Good luck to you and let me know how you are!

  8. Hi there! I FINALLY get to post my story! I was banded yesterday. We were to be at the hopsital at 6:30AM, which we were. I went into the surgical waiting area about 8ish. That was kinda funny beacuse I hadn't been given anything to make me sleepy, and a few of the nurses were not happy with each other, or life in general. I guess they forget that we can hear. Anyway, I met with the anestheologist and nurses going over all the questions and stuff. My husband was allowed to come back and visit with me until they were ready. about 9:45 the nurse anesthesiologist came back in with all my happy shots. My surgeon came in, chatted a sec, was pleased with my weight loss, and they came in to get me. I remember the operating room, and people chatting, and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. Ohhhh boy did I have cotton mouth! The wheeled me up to a room sometime after that. telling me to take deep breaths. It hurt to breath deep, but I did. The floor nurse came in got me a popsicle.. it was the best!! I had to wait until I could pee, and came home. I got home around 4. I had some shoulder and neck pain, which is gone today, and I'm really sore.. kinda like I did 1000 situps. But all in all it was a great experience. The Dr told me no bathing for 3 days... yikes! So I had hubby get baby wipes when he got the pain meds. I'm on liquid loritab, and I'm all about taking it at the prescribed times for a few days. Best way to stop pain is to never let it start! I'm looking forward to Sunday for soft food. I got a Magic Bullet, and have all the ingredients for my first meals! One hugh suggestion is walk! I know you don't really feel like it, but it helps so much. Hope this was helpful to anyone who is nervous. I was pretty scared, but I came thru with flying colors! Molly
  9. Hi there! I'm on my 2nd week of pre-op diet, on the liquids only. I'm on day 3 of it. My surgery date is the 17th. It's been hard, but I have found that I have to drink the shakes BEFORE I get hungry or I get nutty. This week has really made me aware of my food addiction. Honestly, my stomach isn't growling, and I almost have the same feelings of anxiety that I had when I quit smoking 12 years ago. It's crazy! I really can't wait until Dec 22 and I can have something mushy!!! Funny how your preceptions change, chicken salad in the magic bullet is sounding soooo good! By the way, I also ate my house in "mourning" for the food I would be missing. Good luck to you! PS. Hubby is on frozen dinners this week.. I ain't cooking! Kids are grown and gone, so I don't have to worry about that

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

Jamtte you go! going on liquids AND quitting smoking! If you can stop the cigs you can do anything! I remember quitting smoking and it was the hardest thing I've ever done. although I'm one day away from the start of my liquid part. I have 1 week of liquids + a lean cusine at night then 1 week of liquids. I dread it! I'm sending you all the positive vibes I can muster from Nashville! I made need them back in a few days!

Do you tell... or keep it a secret?

I was all about "not telling". I didn't want any negative feedback about just "cutting back and excercise". I finally realized 1. my family deserved to know I was having surgery. I would be very mad if they didn't tell me they were having surgery. and 2. my co-workers and friends were going to find out when I started losing weight. my co-workers (all women) had already started questioning my frequent dr. appts., and I just didnt want the speculation. EVERYONE has been super supportative and i have a hugh cheering section now. Each person is different, with different friends and family. I just didn't want alot of discussion so I waited until this week to tell everyone. Good luck to you what ever you decide. Remember this is about you.
  13. Hi there. I'm having the same problem. I hope that makes you feel a bit better. I'm questioning my basic sanity right now, (even though the psch eval said I wasn't crazy). I've lost almost 10 pounds in the last 2 months, and am wondering if I can do it on my own. But...

I don't know about you, but I've been dieting most of my life, and gaining weight most of my life. In the last year I've had health problems. My body is getting sick . I have to stop the sickness, and the way to do that is to have this as a tool to help me lose weight. I hate the way I look, I hate that I cant play the dance game on the WII with my granddaughters because I'm too fat to keep up. I hate clothes..the big fat ones I have to wear.

I'm totally scared to death. I've talked to people who have had this done and they are absolutely loving life.

So..I'm with you!!! just remember why you went to the seminar, why you made the decision and focus on the skinny you a year from now!!!

    Hope this helped!

    Molly

  14. The seminar will answer alot of your questions, but with my insurance you had to have a problem (sleep apnea, diabetic, high BP) and a BMI of 35 or greater. A BMI of 40 put you on in. FYI, my insurance made me do a 6 month "physician recommended" diet (even though I had been on LA Weightloss for 8 months!) I had to go every month. My insurance DID NOT make me lose 10% of my weight thank goodness! I have been at this since March and just got approved and scheduled. You do have to be dedicated to it! My insurance is paying for this (except 10%) Good luck to you!

    Pre-Op Diet

My per-op starts Dec 3rd. 1st week i get 2 protein drinks a day and a lean cusine (300 cal. or less). then the 2nd week I go to 4 drinks a day. All the SF popsicles, jello and broth I want for the 2 week period. Its very interesting how the diets vary! I'm not looking forward to it at all.
