cleanteeth replied to darlingthree's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow. congrats on what you've done! I'm just starting the process. I'm scared to death, but ready to start the process. I'm waiting on all the insurance stuff. Hopefully my year at LA Weightloss will count or I have to do another 6 months of "managed weight loss". I have learned so much here. Molly -
BC/BS ILL... Sleep Apenea, High Colesterol, 38 BMI
cleanteeth replied to mrscrash2u's topic in Insurance & Financing
Wow.. what can I say to you to change your mind. First of all my husband wants me alive. and the CPAP will keep me that way. My family has a history of sleep apnea plus I'm very overweight. Your apnea is affecting your health. I didn't want the thing, and have had to learn to adjust to it, but I wanted to live more. I started craving sleep, and the mask because it would allow me to sleep. I'm hoping that by doing the band I will be able to get rid of the mask, but if I don't.. I will live with it. I've had family members die of heart problems that are directly related to sleep apnea. Please try again! I was lucky that my insurance covered it, but I would have paid the money for me to sleep and my hubby to also. I didn't snore much, but do shallow breathing and restless leg syndrome. My husband said I'm much less "active" after the CPAP. Good luck to you. -
I plan on telling my work that I'm having "minor surgery" and leaving at that

Total meltdown yesterday - just venting
cleanteeth replied to Long2BFree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there! I didn't read all the replys, because there are a bunch. I can tell you that once I made the decision to do this..(with hubby's approval and backing) I have been eating myself into 6 more pounds! It is the last step for me to realize just how much an emotional eater I am. I'm so over the whole food thing and ready to get healthy! We all need to realize (we being ME) that food is to make our body work and be healthy.. not for fun and enjoyment. Food is fuel.. not anything else. It can taste good.. don't get me wrong.. but it doesn't neet to be comfort. it needs to be fuel. -
Hi Natt. I'm pretty new here too. I can tell you my experiences so far. First off I went to an informational seminar. They got my insurance info and my medical hx. They verified that my insurance woudl conver the surgery with my BMI and sleep apnea. I had been on LA Weightloss for the past year, and I had heard that some insurance co's want a 6 month physician approved weight loss. I was happy that I had already "done that", and I went in to my PCP for an appointment with him. He would be sending the letters and the approval. I'm a bit concerned because I didn't see him for 6 months straight. It may put me back. My PCP said he would do all he could for me. The other thing.. Don't tell alot of people what your doing. It's just easier on you. so now.. I'm just waiting on the next move Molly

Thinking about lap band
cleanteeth replied to Jan Guest's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm starting the process too. I just freaked out when I started reading about it on the internet. Then I happend on this site. I've read all the good.. the bad and the questions. It really made a difference for me in making up my mind. I'm still scared.. but so are all the others on here that are starting.. and you'll find out it's OK to be scared. It is a totally cool place to be to learn all you want to know. -
Hi there. I'm sort of new here now. I'm definately reading all the threads to learn as much as I can. I'm having my PCP visit tomorrow with all my "papers" from LA Weightloss for the past year. I am pretty confident that they will be OK with my PCP since he encouraged me to go there. So I will have filled my 6 month requirement. As far as the PB thing. I kinda understand what it is, but does it just happen all of a sudden. Like your at a dinner table and you spew all over the table? Do you have warning that it will happen? Can someone fill me in on exactly what happens.. do you eat to much? to fast? don't chew? all of the above? You guys rock! What a great support system! Thanks! Molly
-
Thanks.. It's really the part that is freaking me out the most. I'm already trying to learn to eat slowly and chew. For alot of my life I had to inhale my food at lunch and set up a very bad pattern. It's very hard for me to slow down take little bites and chew, chew and chew again. I'm also not the most patient person in the world. I hope practice will help.

Hi there! I'm off to the PCP tomorrow with all my "notes" from LA Weightloss over the past year, and my medical "sheets" for the PCP to fill out. I sure hope that he does! Since he encouraged me to go there. Now,, for my question.. When you PB. is it something that just happens, like at the dinner table, or in front of people? Can you control it a bit like vomiting when your sick? You know it's coming so you make for the bathroom? This is just the coolest site! I love readinng all the threads and the experiences. It has definately made me feel better about the process. Although I'm still scared Molly and I still have not gotten all the cool stuff on here! -
Hi gl. I'm just getting started too. I'm having my first visit with my PCP tomorrow. I've done the seminar, and my insurance will cover the surgery with 6 months of physician approved weight loss. I did LA weight loss for the past year (i still have "paid for weeks" that I'm using). I just hope that counts.!

Stupid people and their stupid opinions
cleanteeth replied to spoodles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry that you'r having this trouble. Tell Mom and Hubby they aren't helping. I have chosen to only have my husband and 2 close friends/co-workers know. As far as when I have my surgery.. I'm just planning on saying I'm having some outpatient procedure done and be very vague. I just don't want to go thru what you have having to go thru. It's bad enough being fat and having to go thru all that stuff. Gl to you. I hope to read your journey in the POST op stuff now. Molly -

Bama.. maybe your weight watchers will count if you've been in the last year or two. My insurance said it had to have been in the last one to two years. -
just starting the process
cleanteeth replied to cleanteeth's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The Dr. office faxed my these forms that my PCP has to fill out for each of 6 months. I am having LA type up a letter with each month's starting and ending weight. I did lose 20 pounds with them, but starting gaining, got discouraged and quit trying. Of course I have gained it all back. I'm sure hoping that the insurance will count that. I'm actually still going to LA.. I have 45 more paid for weeks, so I am using them to start back losing a little, and as a counseling service as such. I sure hope that at least that will count to the 6 months. Keep your fingers crossed for me! -
Hi Barbie! I'm also new to all this. I'm getting my paperwork together and see my PCP on Friday for him to do his paperwork. I also have been very hesitant about talking to anyone about my decision. My husband is very supportative, and went to the seminar with me. I have two friends/co-workers I told, but other than that I've not said anything. I don't want co-workers talking about me (a bit of pride issue there) and I don't want any negative discussion about my decision. I don't want to have to defend myself. Good luck to you in the process. I'm sure we'll run across each other here. I'm in Nashville. Molly

Thinking about it, don't know much yet
cleanteeth replied to LaRay's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi LaRay. I am starting the process too, and also want to loose about 100 pounds. I just happened upon this site, and I'm so glad that I did! I have learned more here than anywhere. I went to a seminar given by the Dr last week, and found out yesterday that my insurance would cover me. I'm really new here, but I've been reading all the different responses and qusetions and have learned so much! I really think being here made my mind up. Good luck to you Molly -
Hello you everyone newbie!

Goodl luck to you. I'm also starting the process. I have an appointment with my PCP on Friday so he can fax all my "stuff" to the lapband dr. I'm having all kinds of anxiety, I'll be excited and ready, then I get nervous. -

cleanteeth replied to cleanteeth's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It depends on your insurance. I was going to have to do the 6 months, but had already done the LA thing. Thank goodness because I'm ready to do this now. I'm scared to death, but I know that I need this as a tool to get back into good health. -
Cpap Machine and cough? Need advice
cleanteeth replied to amsderb's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Use Afrin and keep trying. I only have the half mask, but I used to throw it off after a couple of hours. Now i put it on without a thought. One of my goals though is to be rid of the dang thing. No more airport security things, plus all the other things. It is one of many reasons I'm doing this. -

Starting the process, looking for support
cleanteeth replied to Paisley's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there! I'm new to the process too. I just found out that it will be covered. I have already done the 6 month weight loss program (I didn't know at the time that I would go this route) so I'm getting my paperwork and going to my PC on Friday. Good luck to you, and I'll look for your postings Molly -
Hi everyone. I just went thru a new patient seminar last night. Thank goodness I found this site before I went there. I'm more confident of my decision from what I've read here than from the Dr. talking last night. I'm still scared and very, very nervous about all this. I will find out on Monday about my insurance and all that. I've been doing LA weight loss and curves in the past year, so I'm hoping that will count to any 6 month thing I might want to do. This site is a hugh blessing to me. To know that I'm not the only one scared and freaking out is hugh. It has also shown me how in control my food addiction is. A real eye opener to me. I'm glad that I can come here and have real people answer all the questions I have or the things I'm going thru. Molly in tennessee:scared2:

Hi. newbie from tennessee
cleanteeth replied to cleanteeth's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks. I have to say that at the seminar I told one of the nurses about the site. She didn't know about it, and was banded herself. If I may ask. how do you get the "stuff" like the weight loss thing and the stuff where you can record the dates? For some reason I'm feeling that this is important to me to check things off. -
I had a "nice" little visit to the ER tonight
