Any other banders in 20's-30's in Az

Hiya! I'm 30 and live in Gilbert. I was banded back in March. I would be very happy to meet new people too!

    Question

Hullo! We had surgery the same day. I'm definitely feeling like I can eat more. There have been a couple of times lately where I know I've eaten more than I should, and I didn't really have any repercussions for it (other than my weight loss slowing down some at this point!) I'm learning that all of my bad eating habits were waiting at home for me when I returned from the surgical center, especially emotional eating. I'm learning how to deal with these issues and pretty much force myself to keep portions down. Best of luck!!

    Scheduled for May

Hiya! I get migraines like whoa and I didn't have any during my liquid diet phase. When I did get little headaches I took some liquid Tylenol or had some black tea. Best of luck
  5. So... yesterday I had my 2-week post-op meeting with the Doc. All's well. I wanted to kiss the guy when he said I could have my staples out! Bless him! (Them things ITCH like almighty, cripes!) The nice nurses took them all out (with very little pain- whew!) and slapped on some iodine and steri-strips. Unfortunately, all but one of these lil' strips has fallen off. Already. Do I need to worry about slapping on some band-aids or somethin' to protect the sutures at this point? The sutures look pretty good, considering I previously resembled Frankenstein's tummy, without any leakage or anything, but... yep. Any thoughts? :crying:

    TV shows you love

I'm a big fan of Battlestar Galactica, too. I adore Doctor Who. I'm also a CSI Miami nut, and to a lesser extent a nut for CSI in Vegas. We're also big fans of Mythbusters in my house - probably the only "reality"-ish show we do watch with any regularity. We watch a LOT of British TV, especially older series like Blackadder and Allo Allo! I am currently still recovering from not having a new episode of 24 to watch this season (twitch, twitch... Jack Bauer, where are you??)

    I like the new look!

I agree, Apply Lady had issues. "Have an apple, my deaaarrriiiieeeee...." EEEE!

BMI 60 and above now OR when you started!

Hi there, I weighed 393 when I went into surgery on 3/27. I'm currently 381 (I think - my scale at home has odd fits of pique that I can't fathom yet). So, we're in the same boat! Best of luck!
  9. Yes, I'm worried about that! I like my hair to stay on my head. I'm actually drinking an Isopure drink right now. Blue Raspberry! It's very sweet but not bad at all.

    Sleep Study Tomorrow night!!

I didn't have fun with my sleep study. I hated all the wires. I tossed around all night and my legs were super twitchy. I really irritated the poor people trying to administer the test. First I couldn't sleep, then my legs were all weird, then they had to try three different CPAP masks on me. I know I totally screwed up this poor woman's evening of reading her romance novel. They all earned their fee that night!

    Hello there

Hiya! My surgeon and center are based in Scottsdale too (True Results, Dr. Nirmul.) Best of luck with the paperwork, and welcome!
  13. Hi there, We were banded the same day! I've been very hungry this week, and have been avoiding Protein shakes like the plague. Cottage cheese and 1% milk have been my saviors. I bought some unflavored whey powder last night at GNC to try and get more protein (I'm sure I'm falling waaaayyyyy short). I'm going to try it tonight in a faux lasagna (fauxlasgna?) and I hope it works!
  14. ima_sundevil

    damn

I agree with you on the protein shake. I need to get out the blender and have a go at some shake recipes. Just drinking them as-is is pretty gross. I'm going to go back now to plotting a suitable demise for whichever co-worker it was that made popcorn.

True Results AZ - Support Group 04/09/2008

Ooo. This Wednesday, huh? I'll try and make it!
  16. I've had CPAP for about a year, but my mask's nose only (so I look like a fighter pilot or Cthulhu - attractive, no?) I've had occasionally problems with getting all stuffy at night, and nasal drip. I've sometimes resorted to Afrin to help clear it up, and that seems to work out Ok. I've also had a problem where I've heated up the air too much and the air in my bedroom is too cold (can't sleep without a fan on me) so I get condensation in my mask... which seems to seep in and make me a lil bit miserable. Fun! Anyway, the Afrin's helped me with that. You might want to talk to your doctor, too.

    Liquid Diet - blahh.

Hi there, I occasionally slipped in a tiny can of V8 juice to stave off the too-sweet blahs on my liquid diet. The salty taste was such a relief, and it kept me on track when I was ready to hunt down a cheeseburger or something.
  18. I've been lucky that most people I've told have been very supportive. I've only come across one person (a physician's assistant to the cardiologist who was analyzing my stress test results) who was a total asshat about it. "Are you suuuuuure you want to do this?" "Have you actually tried any diets first?" two days before surgery! She got the smack-down when the good doctor came in and congratulated me for being the "perfect candidate" and "taking life by the horns," that this surgery was the best possible thing for me. He said all this in front of her and her face got quite red. Oh, SNAP. :Dancing_wub:

    Hello for Dallas, TX (Lakewood)

Hi there! I did have a stress test about a week before surgery. They put in an IV and injected a drug (the name... er... uh...) that simulated exercise. I was told it dilates all the veins in your body at once. I felt flushed and like I was supposed to give a big presentation without having prepared any notes ahead of time. It wasn't so bad. It only lasted about five minutes. Some stress tests involve a treadmill or exercise bike, but mine didn't.

    Sex!!!

I might be feeling kinda up for it now (9 days post-surgery) but I gotta tell ya, when my husband looked at me the other night and said, "Hey, I've never seen staples in somebody before. Cool!" it was a cold shower.

    Hey!

Hi, fellow banders! I just started a blog to talk about my progress with the band. Perhaps it's not an original idea, but I think it will help along the way. Please visit: http://rockthatlapband.blogspot.com

    Music to get you moving?

"Groove is in the Heart" by Deelite gets me goin'. It's funky and really kinda ridiculous as a song, and doesn't have any redeeming lyrics of note, but it's fun! Groove is in the heaaaarrrtttttt... *boogie!*

    Any Self Payers???

Hiya, I had to self-pay. My company is lovely to work for but the insurance coverage bites kinda hard! My parents and I split the cost. I had to borrow from my younger sister to cover my part (her interest rate was so much better than the loan company, who quoted a rate that would make Tony Soprano blush.) It was a little embarrassing having to borrow from sister (she married into some money - props to her!) but in the end it was a good deal, I think. It was $16,500, which does include fills. I was banded 3/27 and feeling good so far!

True results in AZ any others

They were really good about fitting me in a tight schedule. At first we were all operating under the assumption that I could have my stress tests at True Results - but after a few kerfuffles it was discovered that it wasn't true afterall. At that point I had two weeks to complete all the stress tests. The tests were at odd times, and I didn't get to choose, but they got me in!
