I had the same pain post-op when I had my RNY. My Dr told me it was ok and it did go away.

Has anyone experienced this post surgery? I could literally care less about eating most of the time. Eating is literally a job. I scrunch my nose at most things. Am I just a bad cook? [emoji23] It’s such a 360 from my pre surgery life. Advice? Does it pass? Obviously I need to keep my metabolism up.

Food isn’t appealing and I’m not hungry

I do like he BariatricPal food. It seems to satisfy me when I’m looking for something to eat and nothing sounds good. HW 356 CW 267 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18 -
Oh and I slept in a recliner for nearly a month. Couldn’t lay flat bc of the pain. After that, improved rapidly. HW 356 CW 267 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18

First Stall - less than 2 weeks after surgery???
mbj8r8 replied to nycgirl18's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Don’t worry. I’ve had a few stalls. It’s so frustrating bc I know I’m doing everything right. Just keep on doing your thing. Be consistent w your protein, water and vitamins. HW 356 CW 267 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18 -
I protein shaker bottle and some packets of protein shake mix travel well. I find I don’t really care what I eat. Grilled chicken isn’t too hard to get a hold of either. HW 356 CW 267 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18

I had pretty bad abdominal pain for a few weeks. It was right about where you’re describing. It got better slowly. Glad to hear you’ve contacted your Dr though. Never bad to check. HW 356 CW 278 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18

Food isn’t appealing and I’m not hungry
mbj8r8 replied to mbj8r8's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had surgery 1/22/18, so I’m almost 12 weeks out. I eat 3 meals a day (no snacks) per my surgeon. I manage to get my Protein in most days, but that said it’s a struggle. I actually get goosebumps often because whatever I’m eating is just so unappealing. I’d prefer to not eat at all, but I usually end up with about 500 calories. I think this is just such a drastic mental change from before surgery, it throws me for a loop. The normal reaction is, enjoy it while it lasts (and I will). The one thing that I enjoy right now are raw veggies. I’ve been adding 2 oz. of chicken to a salad. I cut out dairy which has really helped the weight loss, but it does limit my choices at times. After surgery- what is it like?
mbj8r8 replied to Lyds85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I woke up and rated my pain an 8. The nurse was right there with the good stuff and made it go away. I slept tons. I had a morphine pump and never felt much pain except when getting out of bed. By the time I was discharged the next day, I was just fine. I brought a pillow for the car. Just get plenty of rest, honestly. This is your chance to be lazy without guilt. After surgery- what is it like?
mbj8r8 replied to Lyds85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started going to the gym 2.5 weeks after surgery and just walking slowly. It’s been fine and I feel like it’s helped loosen up my abdomen, if that makes sense. My doctor just said if it hurts, don’t do it. I don’t do any lifting yet. HW 356 CW 305 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18 -
I’ll definitely have to try it soon. Thank you. HW 356 CW 318 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18

How do you make it?? Sounds good. HW 356 CW 324 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18

Hang in there. I’m about 12 days out from RNY and it gets better. Ice chips are great. HW 355 CW 335 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18

I’m on day 12 of a 2 week clear liquid and protein shake only diet. I’m not going to lie, the 1st 5-7 days were hard. My body has adjusted and now I’m okay. Broth has been my saving grace. “Better Than Bullion” beef. I also like fruit punch Crystal Light. Hang in, you’ll make it. HW 355 CW 335 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18

Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
mbj8r8 replied to Elrix's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the Lap Band in 2010. Initially I lost all my extra weight. However my band slipped and had to be removed. My WLS no longer does lap bands because of problems they’ve had with it. I would suggest you read some studies, the good and the bad, to see if it’s right for you. I know someone who still has theirs in and is happy. However, I hear of a lot of people revising the band to another WLS. HW 355 CW 335 GW 180 RNY 01/22/18 -
Maybe I just haven’t gotten to that point where my body adjusts.

I’m scheduled for RNY Jan 22nd. Im currently on my 2 week clear liquids and protein shakes diet. I expected it to get easier by now (day 5), but I’m still super hungry. Someone please tell me it gets a tiny bit easier?? I have 9 more days. I knew it would be hard and it’s so worth it, but I thought my body might have adjusted a bit better by now.

Yeah, 100+ oz of clear liquids and between the 4 shakes I’m allowed, 120 g of protein. Maybe I just went too big with my farewell tour last week.

I’m having surgery the 22nd. Currently struggling w the clear liquids and protein only diet. I’m still starving. Could my carb addiction have been that bad? Is this normal? What gives? Help!

Don't be so hard on yourself. This isn't easy. I have had to learn to give myself grace.

How did you decide on which type of surgery is best for you?
mbj8r8 replied to dennise68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. I was deciding between sleeve and bypass. Since I previously had a failed lap band, my doctor told me that bypass was the better option because it's easier to convert. I also have a lot of weight to lose.
