My wife makes yogurt for me, both regular and greek. I usually throw a teaspoon of honey in there for a nice hint at sweet, or maybe a small spoon of some preserves. I do that and a couple cheese sticks, easy peasy. I also use premiere protein shakes if I am running late and need to consume on my way to work. I have also added Fairlife chocolate milk to my coffee in the morning to offset the water deficit and get a little protein in at the same time. -
I am 72 days post surgery, and not on any restrictive diet anymore. I was cleared about 10 days ago. On Friday, I am not sure if I ate too fast, or ate something wrong, but I have been in severe pain - all day yeserday, and even into today. I know I am not blocked up, as I pooped 3x yesterday. i heard all kinds of rumbling and moving and gurgling in my belly yesterday. Today is less noise. Today I have pain like soreness you get after puking a ton from food poisoning - like your core and all stomach muscles are just sore. Has anyone else had this? Is it from eating too quick? I did eat some Taiwanese style tofu like pudding pretty quick, and it had some sugar in it. I definitely noticed a bad feeling after that - but was not 100% in the morning either. That night I also ate a small bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup from Chick-fila, as well as the insides out of one of their wraps with baked/grilled chicken. I ate more than I possibly thought I would (took 30 mins to eat that). I am wondering if the tofu and beans combo just added a ton of gas? Yesterday was rough. I only got in 64 ounces of liquid and had 2 premiere protein shakes - no food at all. I have really done good since the restrictions were removed, but not sure what caused this issue, and I want to make sure I avoid doing it again. I literally felt pain like the week after surgery.

Agreed. It is definitely diminished from yesterday. I just didn't know if it was a symptom of eating too fast, or eating the wrong food maybe? I heard that RnY and other WLS solutions have the dumping syndrome...which I know this isn't. I just didn't know if there was something similar for sleeve/DS people.

I took Allupurinol daily before my surgery. Flareups were rare when I was on the daily meds, but if I was dehydrated, or had excess red meat, or asparagus, I could get a flare up. I am 65ish days post surgery, and I have not taken a single Allupurinol since the day before surgery and have not had a single flare up, or felt anything even close to it. -
Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the question Why?

I have a simple answer for me - before surgery I was on 9 different pills and a shot a day to keep my blood sugar, blood pressure, gout, and cholesterol under control. My doctor was ready to put my on insulin. Since surgery - not a single pill or shot. NOT A SINGLE ONE!! All of my numbers are normal or below normal - and have been that way since about a week after surgery. Enough said. I plan to be around to watch my son grow up and grow old with my wife...previously, I doubt I could have made that reality. -
I did the same thing about 2 weeks after surgery. Was feeling good, so I took it a step too far. Set me back a few days on recovery. Definitely take it easy for the first month until you are cleared for more movement and lifting weights. You do NOT want a hernia or to have to go back in for repairs.

I had the same thing happen. I had the surgeon check for hernia and hematoma, and I was cleared. I didn't hear a pop, but I thought I felt one. It was tender to the touch for at least another week and was painful for only a day or two before it was just sensitive to movement or touching.

I can't believe it - last week, I graduated, a full month early!! I went in for my 2 month checkup with the surgeon and they took me off all my dietary restrictions!! They were shocked with how well I was doing on water and protein intake and could not believe how much weight and size I have lost. Given my current intake numbers, they said there was no need to restrict my diet due to textures or content. That being said, I still need to be smart and keep all my foods in the guidelines if I can - but I have the freedom to eat what is available and not worry so much if there is a carb content, or sugar content. I was very careful to avoid starchy vegetables, almost all carbs, starches, and sugars.I was very strict on myself these past 2 months, but it paid off! I have not gone hog wild by any means - I still try to keep in the guidelines per serving of being: at least 15g of protein, 20g or less of total carbs (10 or less being sugar), 10g or less of total fat. You want to meet or beat at least 2 of the 3 numbers (meaning more protein, or less carb/sugar, or less fat). That being said - being able to take a bite of a sandwich is amazing, but then I end up stripping the good stuff out and skipping the bread. It is just too filling with no benefit. I have noticed a drastic difference that if I eat carbs, how fast I get hungry before my next meal. I still keep to my 5-6 meal times a day only (wake up food or drink depending on time, then 9a, 12p, 3p, 6p, 9p). No snacking or grazing at any other time. I always make sure to eat the proteins first if I have a mixed meal as well. Proteins first, then fiber, then last is carbs. I do not drink 30 mins before or 30 mins after I eat. In total, I have lost over 35 inches and over 60 lbs. I still weigh myself daily. I do measurements and photos weekly and log them. It really is amazing going back and seeing the difference over each of the weeks. The past couple weeks the visible difference has not been as great week to week, but crazy noticeable going back a month or more. I can't wait to see what the next year brings!

So I keep thinking about this post since the other day when I said I had 60 pounds in 60 days. After talking to my wife about it, wondering why my numbers are so different - she helped me remember that the 60 includes my 20lbs of pre-surgery weight loss from the liver reduction diet. So I am actually 60lbs in 74 days if you add those 2 weeks in. Now I don't feel so much of an anomaly.

I was just getting ready to post asking a similar question. Today I am exactly 60 days post surgery (sleeve & switch done on 11/10), and I am down 60 lbs. Not sure why I have seen more loss than others, but I think there are other people that have lost more than me. I have not touched carbs since before the pre-surgery diet - including sugar. I do not go to the gym, but I do try to walk at least 30 mins at least 3 days a week or more. I adhere to my soft foods diet strictly. I have stopped weighing myself every single day, but do at least every other. I seem to go a couple days on a stall, then will lose one or two. The longest stall so far has been 4 days so far. My routine: get up between 6am and 8am (depending on the day). Have a small cup of coffee and use Fairlife Chocolate Milk as the creamer (about equal 50/50 coffee/milk). I take my first multivitamin with this. Not long after that I will have a Premier Protein drink. Then go about my morning routine. 9am is my first food. Usually homemade yogurt using Fairlife low fat milk as the base, and add a tbsp of raw honey to give it some flavor - or a spoon of mixed fruit jam. I will also have a stick or two of weight watchers cheese (colby jack or mozzarella). I usually have 2 calcium chews after my food. I take my second multi-vitamin 30 mins or so before lunch. Lunch is 11:45/noon - get some kind of protein and steamed veggies and beans if I can. I have a decent cafe at work with usually some good options. Worst case scenario I get a small scoop of egg salad and small scoop of chicken salad. Eat half for lunch, other half for dinner. 3pm have a snack and have my last 2 calcium chews. Usually a protein crunch bar, or a sugar free pudding made with Fairlife milk (protein helps for sure) and some cheese sticks. Dinner at 6pm, usually the same type of thing as lunch. My last multivitamin is sometime after that and before my 9pm snack of yogurt or pudding or cheese, or some combination of them. I do not count calories. I just make sure that the fat and carb numbers per serving fit my advice from NUT. For the meals - I make sure I take as close to 30 mins to eat as I can. The slower I eat, the more I can eat. If I get something I have been craving or tastes good, I tend to eat a little quicker and get uncomfortable after about 10 mins and have to give up the rest of my time. I have not eaten anything fried in almost 3 months. I stop drinking 30 mins before food, and do not drink again for 30 mins after. I primarily drink water. I usually will have one 20oz Vitarain (Costco brand version of Vitamin water zero that I like better than Vitamin water) per day. Sometimes I will have a Bai instead of Vitarain. The rest of my liquids from the day are all water and the Premier Protein I usually have early in the morning. I set my water goal as 70oz/day and want it to primarily be water instead of fake sugar substitute drinks.

I was told no drinking 30 mins before or 30 mins after. Also told to avoid all carbs until my 3 month checkup. No sugar at all! No peanut butter either. I feel ripped off. No beef jerky or other dried foods or fruits. I feel ripped off heheheh :P. It was about the textures and the clumping wanting to make sure there were no clogs or hang ups...at least, so I was told.

I stall for a couple days, then drop 1-2 in a day - so strange. Glad to be on a good track overall. Pretty much doing a pound a day as an average from the start. Less than 60 days from my surgery and quickly approaching 60lbs. Just saw a friend tonight that had the exact same procedure as me, and he is down just over 200lbs, and has maintained his current weight for the last 6 months with no problems. So awesome.

Believe it or not - you are through the worst of it. As long as you don't aggravate it by trying to get up too quick, or bend over to grab stuff too quick - you will get through it. Once you feel better, don't be too quick to get back to normal or try too fast to get to lifting and moving like you did. You do NOT want any setbacks. Do your walking, and get your rest. Your mission for the next few days - drink your liquids, walk as much as you can, and rest.

I think I was able to get the bed near flat around week 3 (we have a sleep number bed that has the motorized frame for lifting feet and head - never been more glad to have it after all the years of never using that feature lol) and sleep on my side again. Be forewarned - it will never be the same on your side again - you are losing your prop to keep you tilted heheheheh. I had to get a bigger pillow to curl up with to keep from rolling onto my stomach. You are close to being pain free - end is in sight!

Good luck! First few days suck on clear liquids and the pain - but it will pass and you will make it. Just make sure to keep up with your liquids - set a timer for every 15 mins to make sure you have your 1-2oz of liquids and you will be fine. Take advantage of the nursing staff, they are a wonderful resource and help while you are in the hospital. As others said - walk as soon as you can and walk often - it really does help. Even if you only walk half a hallway in 15 mins - just walk, or shuffle, or saunter - whichever suits you best. -
Any time that I eat fast, or take big bites - burps for sure. Eating slowly, small bites, and chew a ton - no bad burps or discomfort. Drinking big gulps also burps. I am talking about burps right after you swallow - within minutes, not like 30-45 mins later. Right after surgery, I could take literally drops of liquid as a sip, and have huge painful burps. Crazy. That went away with time.

I was doing 1-2lbs a day pre-surgery on the liver reduction diet (20 lbs total) - then post op I was doing anywhere from 1-4lbs a day for the first 2 weeks. Then that slowed to about 1-2lbs every other day. Now that I am over 6 weeks - it has slowed to about 1-3lbs a week. I am told 1-2lbs a week is normal for the rest of the year.

You are just 11 days post op - I am going to guess your doc will say no. I wasn't cleared for capsules until 30 days - sleeve and switch here. Capsules for the multi-vitamins. -
I had dramatic improvement in week 2. Early in the week there was still some discomfort with getting up, but by the end of the week it was pretty well gone. The incision to the right of my belly button (as I look down) was the one that hurt the most - the internal stitches were what I was feeling with muscle under there. Depending on how I sat/lay - it would give me pain. Definitely be cautious for the first month with how you sit/stand/lift so that you don't put added stress on those stitches inside. That is what the pain was for me. Then one day it was like a light switch turned off and the pain was gone. The pain from bumping it, or trying to lay on my side was gone before the first month was up - like week 3. I saw so many people saying that after just a few days they were pain free - which had me worried too. Get 2 weeks under your belt and you should be fine. Just looked at the posting date and your surgery date. Looks like you should be right about 2 weeks right now - still having issues?

That's good to hear. Overall doing great - down over 50lbs now and only 6 weeks out. Only issue lately has been constipation. I am trying to get more fiber, but doing that tends to lack the proteins. Get in the proteins and get packed up. Can't wait to get a balanced diet and be able to consume a little more volume to allow for that.

Nice that you can get some relief. Mine has never gone away since the day of surgery. I have had it checked by the surgeon and my general practitioner. Both feel it will go away over time. They said just try not to keep stuff in my pocket on that side that will help aggravate it. I am 6 weeks post op. General prac said she thinks it will be 3 months. -
Careful with the cold brew - depending on how they do their cold brew, it can be even more caffeinated than normal hot coffee. Some cold brews are to be treated as a "concentrate" that you mix with hot or cold water to have a cup of coffee. Dutch cold brew is an example of that, although most people drink it over ice mixed with some cream and simple syrup.

Way to go for only 2 weeks out! Your energy will start to come back, and those hills will get easier and easier as the weight comes off. Just make sure not to push yourself too hard in the first month before you are completely healed up. The last thing you want is a set back.

Numbness In Leg Post Op?

Are you still having an issue? I still have a spot the size of my fist on my upper right quad. I could literally draw a circle around it. I had surgery on 11/10/17. I am told it is something like subcutaneous nerve damage from being on the surgery table so long...but it is on the top of my quad, not the back or bottom. What I have been reading is that it is just like when your legs fall asleep after sitting in a position for too long, you normally adjust and it goes away, but in surgery you can't adjust so you can develop some nerve damage. My surgeon told me that this should resolve itself in 4-6 weeks. This Friday will be 6 weeks and it is still just as numb as the day after. I just was reading some other medical blogs that were saying that sometimes nerve damage can take 6 months or more to recover, and sometimes never go away. I find that my spot drives me nuts more at night with itching - mainly right before bed.
