Didn’t they give you a surgery binder or folder or email instructions? I am to have my last preop meal (a shake) between 4 and 6 pm the evening before surgery. Water only until midnight and then nothing else. There are also instructions for drinking the smallest sip of water possible to take certain required medications. Others are not allowed. It is all detailed very clearly in my instructions, and my surgery isn’t until 11/17. I would call my surgeon’s office tomorrow.

Hmm, if I hadn’t already started practicing for my preop diet, I would try that. -

6 Month Diet Requirement
trailtramper replied to DRoseman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cigna is >89 days or 90 days with four weight loss visits. The initial surgery consultation counts as a visit. https://cignaforhcp.cigna.com/public/content/pdf/coveragePolicies/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_bariatric_surgery.pdf -
Cigna- requirements for approval
trailtramper replied to Cjackson82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Cigna and though I have a higher BMI and did not require a comorbidity. The requirement is that your hypertension is poorly controlled with optimal medical management. Maybe the CCF insurance specialist or your doctor can explain why she thinks that. I would probably ask the doctor. The specialist is probably getting that from the CCF’s guide. http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/medicalpubs/diseasemanagement/nephrology/arterial-hypertension/ Another surgeon may not define it the same. Here is the latest Cigna guide https://cignaforhcp.cigna.com/public/content/pdf/coveragePolicies/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_bariatric_surgery.pdf -

Vitamins-daily requirements?? So confused
trailtramper replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still preop for a few more weeks, but as someone who has always taken supplements, Centrum is low in everything in my opinion. Over doing vitamins won’t affect your physiology. There are a few supplements that can build up and cause issues, but for most supplements, your body absorbs what it needs and expels the rest. If you are worried, ask a doctor or nutritionist. -
My husband had it. He had felt much better since it cleared up.

Hard time with Hubby Post Op
trailtramper replied to jcb123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear that. He is probably having some issues coping with the stress of the changes. Did you talk to him about how he can support you during recovery? I am having my surgery 11/17, and I have been spelling out what I will need. For example, I normally cook the meals. After I am on the Bariatric regular diet, I can do that because I will add a carb for him. He is happy to eat what I eat with a carb. However, we are working out a plan for him to take care of his meals for himself preop liquid diet beginning on 11/3 and through week seven. On the occasion he wants fast good or pizza, he can eat it before he gets home, and I don’t want to smell microwave popcorn, so he has agreed to do bagged popcorn for movies. I know this may not help, but it is what I am trying. Also, remind him of all the things that will be better for him if you are successful. He may be afraid that if you lose weight things will change for the worse for him. I agree that we will have to get used to being around foods we need to avoid, but we need to at least get through the initial stages of recovery first. -
Interesting, I guess all plans are different. For three months through reaching my goal weight, my program is a protein serving first, then a vegetable serving second if there is room, and then a fruit serving if there is room. No other carbs are allowed. They don’t share the maintenance diet this early, but I am guessing it is similar. I have surgery 11/17.

Liquid Diet Started Today
trailtramper replied to rayb70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am doing a three-day test run of the clear liquid diet before my egd, and I have had a headache much of the time. For me, it is likely caffeine withdrawal. I took a couple of caffeine pills, which seemed to help. I don’t do coffee, so that seemed like the best option. -
Congrats!

Surgery and Working
trailtramper replied to Tanyatata's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in middle management in a big law firm. My people are spread across nine cities, so I travel a lot. My surgeon says I will be out for one week. Although I have a lot of discretion when it comes to being out or working remotely, I don’t want to get behind. My days are long enough as it is. I lucked up. My surgery is scheduled for 11/17. We are closed two days the following week for Thanksgiving, so I get ten days, which should be enough. -

Hi Zoxie and Angy, I am new to the forum and have surgery scheduled for 11/17. My preop diet will be clear liquids and protein shakes for two weeks. I am doing a trial run this weekend before my edg. I have a demanding schedule as I am sure most do, so I am also trying bariatric products I ordered from Bariatric Pal and Amazon. I can’t do whey protein, so I am doing Bariatric Choice liquid protein, Bariatric Advantage protein gelatin, Gene Pro flavorless protein, broth, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, apple juice, and water to keep my energy level up. I have also ordered B12 patches for preop to go along with multivitamin patches for post op. Naps help. I also read and saw on YouTube to take lip balm to the hospital. My hospital allows GasX strips or melts. Good luck to all! I hope we find great success and an easy recovery.

I am scheduled for 11/17. EGD this Monday and one preop appt. left. After submission of my paperwork, my surgery was approved by Cigna in less than two weeks. [emoji854]
