  1. Terri664.... I am just over 2 months post op, had the VSG with Dr. ILLAN 🤗🤗 I did a lot of research for several months before deciding on Dr. Illan and the BP MX team. And am so happy, thrilled, relieved and thankful that I chose him. The hospital is new and clean, the staff is super caring and friendly, and the surgery was effortless (at least for me as the patient lol... i woke up after surgery wondering if I had actually had surgery haha!). Hands down, Dr. Illan should be your choice. You won't regret 🤗🤗

6 Tips to Prevent Hair Loss After Bariatric Surgery

Thanks for the article! I appreciate it the information! I know my zinc and iron levels were slightly done before surgery. I'm 4 weeks post op and just started taking zinc and iron supplements. I wonder if I'm too late in the game now to mitigate my impending hairloss because I waited 4 weeks post op to take them? (Side note, I have been taking a multivitamin daily, along with B12, B-Complex, Biotin and Collagen, at least 1 month pre op!).

  4. Body lotions with Vitamin E is also supposed to help with skin tightening and stretch marks / scars 🤗🤗 I'm 3 weeks post op. Don't know if it will really work but I use lotion daily so figured it wouldn't hurt to get the vitamin E stuff in it 🤗🤗
  5. This is exactly what I'm going thru right now! I am at week 3 post op now and haven't lost a thing in the last 2 weeks but that same damn one pound up and down lol I have however lost a total of 5 inches during this stall time. I hope this week the scale shows me something !!

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

Jan 15th here ! Going to Mexico! Could have gone sooner however due to work commitments and schedules, January works out better for me
  11. United does have small seats. "Basic" economy just means that you are not permitted to bring a carry on bag with you, only a personal item like a purse. I'm 5'9, 309lbs, size 22/24, and on United flights when I have travelled economy class, my legs are touching the seat in front (it's painful when the person in front reclines their chair into my knees!), as for my hips... I'm able to force down the arm rest but my hips/thigh "spills" over by a little bit. Sometimes the arm rest is resting on the side of my thigh because it can't be in the down position but I try to put it down to be respectful to my neighbor if I have one. And... it's also wise to ask for a seat belt extender because United has short seat belts. So as to save any embarrassment, I quietly ask the flight attendant (who's waiting in the aisle) while I'm just arriving into the plane. That way they usually get it to you by the time you get to your seat, that way you can get buckled in without your neighbor knowing what's going on or without you bothering them while getting situated If you can, try to go First Class. I will be, and I think it will especially be needed after the surgery!....
  12. Yes you can u would just need to tell them that you want too, they Will make the arrangements for you and ensure that you get their medical rate, and of course we you would pay the extra ..

    Waist training

I've had several friends/coworkers use waist trainers and seen great results. They recommend SwanCoast. You can find them here: https://swancoast.com/collections/waisttrainers I'll be starting waist training probably at month 3 or 4 post op. 😁
  14. I found these "Syntrax Nectar Protein Powder Sampler Variety Bag - All 17 Flavors" on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFNYZCT/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2M52OKTIOEIDV&colid=3A9GBMO3FJHBV I will be buying these, not only to try their product (i hear they are good!), and to try some flavors, but also because these single serve packs can go straight into my carry on with me on the plane and can use either milk or water with them (purchased at airport or given to me on the plane).

    Surgery soap

HI Lady83, through all my research I did discover that some hospitals would give patients the special soap, and some others do not. Because I know my surgeon does not, I went ahead and purchased it myself. I figured that I'd be well prepared on my end (and can't be a bad thing!) 😀 The one that seems to be used is the Hibiclens Antimicrobial Skin Liquid Soap. Which I bought on Amazon here : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EV18GE6/ref=od_aui_detailpages01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Also in my research I came across a video from a hospital where they were describing to the patients the process of their surgery, including how to use the soap. I forget which video it was on YouTube but basically the doctor mentioned to use the soap in the shower for your entire body on the night before your surgery. Do not put any creams, powder or body lotions on after. Then the following morning (day of surgery), repeat same process in the shower but this time focus more on your abdomen area. Again when you come out of the shower do not put anything on your skin. It may possibly make your skin feel extremely dry (as said by another lady I found on YouTube who had used it) but you'll be super clean. The liquid soap keeps killing germs until 6 hours after using it. Hope this info helps 😀😀😀
  18. I would strongly suggest watching YouTube videos on WLS and go through this website with a fine tooth comb, read everything you can, research, ask questions, watch more videos 😇 I have been researching WLS, specifically VSG, over the last few weeks, and have not only learnt a lot but am super confident on what I want to do and what steps I need to get there.... and currently I'm 60 days out from starting my pre-op diet. Not saying I'm a pro and know-it-all, just saying that it sounds like more research/understanding/knowledge on your end will help you clear up your confusion. 🤗
  19. I have a 10-day pre-op with clear liquids only 😀😀
  20. Asheville here was looking at BSNC in Cary for my Sleeve, did the initial consult etc, but have now decided to go to Mexico! I chose to go with BariatricPal Team MX, due to my Aetna insurance covering only 50% with a 4 month wait period where i cannot gain weight and a max OOP of $6350. With all the copays, loss of work days & costs of driving back n forth to the various appts, I decided Mexico will be the most convenient and inexpensive option for me. I'm booked for 15th Jan 2018
  21. Ahh great!! One less thing for me to buy lol
  22. HI Angie! Thanks good to know about the stockings and no binder! The spirometer is that plastic thing that I've been seeing patients here in the US be given after surgery, basically you inhale/exhale into/out of and it helps clear the lungs from the effects of anesthesia....
  23. HI Angie's_ocean.... quick question for you.... did you bring your own compression stockings? Or did Bariatricpal MX hospital provide you with them?? Do they provide a binder for you to put around your abdomen as well ? Also, did they give you an incentive spirometer to use ?? Just some questions I had! I'm sure i can ask Bill but don't want to inundate him with too much. I've just booked for my VSG on 15th Jan!!
  24. Hi UndercoverDiet.... I will be from what I understand a large majority of BariatricPal MX patients travel alone and are women. Once I get to my "room" I'll be putting my passport, purse and cell phone in the safe. I'll also be bringing a small carryon suitcase which has a lock, and everything else I have will just stay in that. But just as another person said, don't bring too many other valuables with you....
