Got a date... Chickened out!
JeezLouise91 replied to JeezLouise91's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey everyone thanks so much for all your replies. I am sorry I have had a hectic couple of days and not had a chance to even read through these let alone reply. Now that I have can I just say thank you for all your positive and encouraging words. It sounds like most of you wish you had it done sooner. And the fact that loose skin may not be as much of an issue if I get it done now sounds tempting. Maybe I'm not mature enough to commit who knows. My life was different nearly two years ago when I first started towards my journey for this surgery (I'm from the UK and getting it done on the NHS is a looooong process). I was in kind of a bad place and felt like not only would surgery help with my weight but also force me to kick some bad habits I had with alcohol and cigarettes. Now things are different and I've learnt to respect myself I have cut out the cigarettes and lowered my alcohol content greatly. I'm also thinking do I now have the will power to lose this weight on my own? I tried many attempts before but outside factors and stresses contributed to making it more difficult than usual but now that they are no more and I am finally happy I feel like I can try one more time to do it myself before getting this done. 2 years ago I didn't even care about the risks I was at such a low point and desperate. Now I respect myself and my body and my life and feel that I am not having enough issues with my weight to consider this. I hear stories of people not being able to walk 5 minutes without getting out of breath, or not being able to go on fairground rides, or even having past heart attacks. I am not at that stage yet and feel I am not only less deserving of it but also not in the position where if I don't get this now I might not be able to see my 50s. Being slim again would be lovely I must admit and being able to have children would be amazing but right now my life isn't at any risk. Which is why I don't think I should put it at risk if that makes sense? This is not me saying a definite no just going a little deeper into why the complications concern me more than usual now compared to when it did at first. Why can't I see my progress :(?

Lol I think I'm the opposite to you. I used to be thin and keep forgetting I'm big and don't even really notice it all that much in the mirror. It's the photos that horrify me and bring me back to reality! So yeah photos sound like the key advice here Sent from my F5121 using BariatricPal mobile app -
My story - pre surgery
JeezLouise91 replied to Lainey H's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm scared too. I told my surgeon that I don't have any holidays booked and that I can have the surgery anytime. All was going well until I got a call asking if I could come in for surgery on the 16th of November! [emoji33] I was in shock as if suddenly somebody told me it was actually happening so I declined. It hasn't stopped spinning round in my mind since. I posted on here about my worries and everyone was extremely helpful, I'm feeling better about it now. You are definitely not alone! Feel free to read up my post "petrified and indecisive" if you wanted to feel better about being so worried lol. Sent from my F5121 using BariatricPal mobile app -

I'm glad that you still think the surgery was worth it even though you had that complication! Thank you for the advice [emoji16] Sent from my F5121 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Aha really that does sound similar! How soon did you have the revision surgery after the initial one? And what is GERD [emoji15] just tried to Google it but couldn't see anything lol Congrats on weighloss and maintaining! Sent from my F5121 using BariatricPal mobile app -

In all honesty it's more about having too much and being sick I'm afraid of. Just wanted to brainstorm some ways of being able to keep up with everyone in a safe way and not have to go home early. Fear of missing out I guess lol. Yeah I pretty much guessed my usual drink would be a no no! I have no idea why wine makes me feel more drunk than jd, it's strange but after 2 wines compared to two JDs I can definitely feel the difference and more in control. What drink would you consider the safest after surgery as in low calories and low alcohol percentage? Always seem to be one or the other. Sent from my F5121 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Funny enough you mentioned that, my Dr referd me today! So hopefully that will help. You've been great too tho [emoji16] And you're right when I look at myself being big I do class myself different in a negative way, maybe being different can be good too. Thanks for the honest response [emoji16] Sounds like you basically felt exactly how I'm feeling now. It's so hard, I hate my brain, it loves over thinking even the smallest of things, so with something like this I feel like I'm going mad! I haven't stayed overnight in a hospital either and also don't like the idea of it but I guess it's a very small price to pay compared to the benefits I'd receive. How did u feel the day before surgery and how long ago have you had it? I assume it's going well if you are recommending! Sent from my F5121 using BariatricPal mobile app -

More than 3 would be pretty dangerous after the surgery and I guess I will have to get used to that, but yes I hold my hand up and will honestly say I can have upto 7 drinks (not wine, too strong!) and still get home without stumbling through the door and just feeling happy/buzzed. My drink is jd and Coke, it just affects me completely differently to wine, I try to avoid wine if I can. You make a good point though, I can always have none alcoholic drinks in between so I can keep up with everyone else and not end up getting rushed to hospital with alcohol poisoning lol. I hope this post doesn't make me sounds like an alcoholic [emoji28] it's very rare I have that much but nights out that last about 6/7 hours do pop up every now and then and I'd like to be prepared for it! Ah thank you hun believe it or not it gets easier with every one, luckily they were all fairly early too. And being the same age with pcos, I'll have to follow you [emoji16] It really does sound like a great opportunity, think I will regret not having it. Congratulations on the wedding and wishing you all the success with the surgery! Sent from my F5121 using BariatricPal mobile app -

I'm glad I've made you laugh haha and even happier that it's because you can relate! Sounds like you have had a really successful journey, congratulations! I had no idea there was a whole debate on the stomach stretching, thanks for the heads up on future posts lol. I seemed to do really well when I was put on the liquid diet a year ago as a sort of test to see if I could stick to it for surgery so that helps. I think it's 5 years down the line that concerns me, I guess by then I will be used to it and not care? So much to think about, but all these comments have been super helpful. I guess some people are less botherd by it than others! I just love my nights out with my partner, we've been to a few weddings this year also and have enjoyed having a few and dancing and coming home late feeling like we've really let our hair down. Alcohol isn't everything, but this past year I've had a different outlook on it, and instead of drinking when I'm unhappy, I'm drinking when I'm in a good mood and am actually liking how it makes me feel! That is a good point, most restaurant portions don't seem healthy these days [emoji26] I guess I'm a little freaked out by being the first one to stop eating and having to bring it up all the time etc. Just feeling like I'm different! Have to remember that the reason I'm doing this is because I don't want to carry on though, and embrace the positive change instead of cowering away from it. Thank you for being so informative, really appreciate it! I guess it's not as much of a complete lifestyle change as I think it is in my head. Although I hate how much I can over think and worry I am glad I'm taking my time to decide and consider all the pros and cons. The cheap date part sounds great lol! Well that is a much better scenario than suddenly running off to the toilet! [emoji28] The money saving does sound like a nice cheeky little bonus I must admit lol. Could life ever be back to normal? (as in like a healthy person's lifestyle who didn't have the surgery) Say in 5 - 10 years will I be able to eat normal sized foods and have more than 3 drinks without getting too drunk? I've heard of failed surgerys where the persons stomach is back to its normal size but is it possible to have a normal sized stomach again without it being a fail? So many questions I apologize lol, thank you for being a big help. Xxx Sent from my F5121 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Yeah if I'm honest I hear alot of people say they wish they had it done sooner! When you say it wasn't a breeze, is there anything in particular you're finding super hard? Congrats on you're surgery, glad to hear you're happy with the decision! -

I'm glad I'm not the only one, everyone I follow on Instagram seems a little nervous at the beginning of their story but yet so certain it's what they want to do! I definitely need to do some more thinking on this. Got to remember that it's permanent and not a magic wand but a tool. Thanks for sharing -

You are right. It sounds like I'm over exaggerating everything once I re-read my post I'm such an over thinker. I think I worry about not knowing how much to drink, and making myself sick or ordering the wrong foods while out in public and being sick! Has this ever happened to you? When you go out for meals do you just order a small starter? Thank you for the reply! -
I haven't told anyone
JeezLouise91 replied to sleevedAndRelieved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I actually told everyone straight away but my father would really rather me not get it. It can be discouraging so if you are absolutely certain you want to do it and feel like your family will try to change your mind keep it to yourself. You are an adult at the end of the day! It may cause upset if it comes out but atleast they won't have to worry about you in the days leading up to it
