  1. Thanks Tex. I feel great so far. I’m hoping that I can continue to feel this way as the weeks and months progress. Head hunger still rears it’s ugly head and I try to sip more of my protein shake when I’m feeling tempted to give in. Something I’ve learned to do so far is to walk away from a meal that looks too tempting at home. For example, I’ll make my kids their dinner, tacos, fajitas, spaghetti, or whatever and then I’ll walk out of the kitchen while they are eating. This helps me not to graze on their food or be tempted to eat any of it. When it is not in front of me I have no desire to eat it. So I am careful not to linger while they are eating. Trying to make sure I stick to this and follow my doctor’s rules. So far so good. Next week it’s on to puréed. All my best to everyone!
  2. Hello all! It’s been exactly one week since my Esg procedure. I saw my doc yesterday and it looks like since my procedure day 2/6 I’ve lost 7 pounds. I’m extremely excited because I’m starting to notice it in how my clothes fit. My doc has cleared me for cardio exercise but still no heavy lifting or over exertion for fear of stretching or breaking the sutures. I’m on full liquids now and not finding it extremely difficult as long as I get in enough protein which on average is 85-100g per day. I also feel like I have more energy and not much fatigue at all. This part amazes me considering I’m not taking in more than 700-800 calories a day max. Pre-esg this wasn’t possible except when I crashed Diet and even then of course that was definitely not sustainable. Incredible how Tex and Mel were right that this was how I’d feel post esg. No cravings for sweets—gone, so far. And I feel like I have energy to complete everything I need to during my day with time to spare. (You were right Mel, my home has never been cleaner!!) On a funny but happy side note, my teenage kids even noticed I lost some weight. That is an accomplishment because my boys hardly notice anything. Keeping my fingers crossed that the weight will continue to come off. Hopefully now I’m that I’m exercising it will. Till next time guys. Please keep posting. 💝💝💝
  3. Great progress Amy. Great to hear that you’re almost at goal. That must be very exciting. I did have my procedure on the 6th and am now in the full liquid stage until day 14. Thankfully it went well and I honestly had no major pain or issues. I am hoping to post a real update after my one week follow up on Tuesday. Looking forward to hearing about more of your successes. Thanks for checking in!!
  4. Great idea. I’ve seen them advertised but wasn’t sure if they were worth buying. Thanks I will go ahead and try that.
  5. Great news for sure. So very proud of you, Melesg. You have really stuck to your eating plan, don’t want to call it a diet, since the very start. You are now 5 months postop I believe? Excellent results and extremely motivational. I also think it’s wonderful that you are setting up a new goal because you are almost at your goal. Remember not to be discouraged if those last 10 pounds don’t come off as quickly as you hoped. They say the last 10 pounds are the most difficult, not that I would know yet, lol. Keep posting because we want to hear from you of course and because I hope this forum has helped you throughout your struggles and triumphs. I know for sure you guys have helped me more than any one of you can know. My next update will be Tuesday when I go in for my one week consultation postop. Please enjoy your weekend everyone!

Thanks so much kakatlady612! You are a blessing to have in this forum. Your wisdom and positive outlook on life make our struggles seem minor and insignificant. You keep us motivated and remind us to stay focused and use the tool that we now have. Looking forward to many posts from you!!

We are here to answer any questions you have my dear. We will do our best to encourage you and give you strength every step of the way. It doesn’t matter how far you are. Melesg is from Australia and I’m from the US and she was still one of the best encouragers I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. It is normal to be scared. I was terrified but I assure you that just stick with what the doctor tells you and you will be just fine. All my love. 💝💝

Good morning all! It certainly is a good morning for me. I’m feeling almost 100% today which is Day 4 post op. In fact, yesterday I was almost completely back to my old self except for the part that I could only drink clear liquids and I was still feeling a little sluggish. Tex Slim 66, I can honestly say that almost everything you described to me about postop happened with me to a tee. I kept thinking that I doubt I’ll have the same experience as Tex. I also thought maybe he’s trying to sugarcoat it a bit. I figured well he’s a tough Texas man and his threshold for pain is way higher than mine so I was preparing for the worst. But my friend you were right. I rarely felt any real pain except just after I woke up in the recovery room. (One Percocet took care of that). After that I really didn’t feel much pain at all. As of yesterday I am off all meds except for the one for acid reflux which I only need to take for another week or so just as a precaution. No nausea at all. Thankfully no vomiting or dry heaving either. I don’t feel any hunger so full liquids for me are fine. All of your advice was extremely helpful—from getting up to walk to alleviate gas to sleeping at an incline to prevent the gas. So glad I’m over this first hurdle!! Melesg— your beautiful words of encouragement carried me through the procedure. I kept remembering that my guardian angel (my late mother) was watching over me and when I started to feel a bit of panic, I’d take three long breaths and it would calm and relax me. You were also right about my children not even noticing— like you said, gotta love teenagers. Thanks again to all of the well wishers—- Patriciaholland, AmyAlexis, (who I’d love to hear from, it’s been a while my dear), and kakatlady612 (btw, please be as bossy as you’d like. Your advice and wisdom got me through the first few days.) Looking forward to posting more success and still of course would love to hear how each of you are doing. Love my ESG family!💝💝💝

Thanks for the encouragement. I honestly can say that so far it has not been that bad at all. The fatigue is for me the worst part. But I have been able to rest frequently since my procedure. The first day when I got home I slept mostly. I only got up to use the bathroom and walk off the gas. Yesterday was the same except I was able to do laundry and make an easy dinner of tacos for the gang. I’m looking forward to today as I will off the pain meds and the nausea patch. I’m feeling better and thankfully have excellent support at home. Hubbie and kids have been great so far. I am looking forward to tomorrow when I can have more solid liquids and not just clear. All in all my dear so far so good. I’m so glad that the procedure part is done. Looking forward to the good parts now.

Thank you for the great tips by the way. I did sleep last night in a reclined position and I only needed to get up a few times for gas which, as you told me, went away as soon as I walked around a bit. The pain was manageable. I was told to take Librax for pain a very four hours but I have only taken one last night and one this morning. I’m doing okay considering. I hope tomorrow my energy will come back. Thanks again Tex.

You are so right. Thanks for reminding me that I am entitled to slack a bit after having this procedure. You give great advice. The funny thing is I was just about to go do a few loads before I read this, lol. Now I’m going to take a midday nap.

Thank you so much Patricia. Your words just before I have my procedure meant the world to me. Thanks for cheering me on. I know these first few days will be rough but they are honestly not as bad as I thought. I’m taking it one day at a time All my best 💝💝

Good morning. I’m feeling very sluggish this morning. I’m quite tired. I slept in like three hour intervals last night. I’d need to get up, use the bathroom, drink some fluid— either protein water, plain water, chicken bone broth, or a sugar free pop, and then go bed. The pain is minimal now and I wasn’t in much pain yesterday either. The nurses did give me an extra pain pill called percaset which really got me through yesterday. Today I still have my anti nausea patch on and I did take a lower dose Generic Emend for the nausea also. I also took librax for the cramping and an acid reflux med which I have to take for two weeks. All in all not as bad as I thought it would be. I’m just happy to have finally done it and gotten this part over with. I’m going to mainly sleep through the day. Looking forward to tomorrow as everyone has written that the 3rd day is when you start feeling much better. On a side note, yesterday I actually came home and did laundry. Doctor said I needed to try to move around (and Tex was right it helps with the gas) so I figured I might had well use My up time wisely. Still feeling weak today so maybe laundry will have to wait. Many thanks for the well wishes and encouragement!!💝💝

Hello my wonderful ESG family, I am done with my procedure. It went smoothly. It was only a one hour- 90 minute procedure. Went under at 7:30AM and woke up in recovery at around 10:30AM. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, well wishes, and encouragement. I love you all and will post when I am not so groggy.

Great advice my dear. Helped me get through today. I hope you’re right and my late mother is looking down on me and protecting me. I’m going in tomorrow morning. My check in is at 6:30 AM. I’m hoping to be home by afternoon God willing. Of course I will post as soon as I am able to. Thank you all for the prayers, love, and kindness you’ve shown me throughout this process. I’ll see you all on the other side. 💝🤞🏻💝🤞🏻

That’s great to hear, LivingLife100. I’m glad we can go through journey together. I’m only one week behind you. What did you find was your biggest challenge? What makes you say this is a great tool? How are you feeling 5 days out? Do you notice any other change besides a decrease in hunger and appetite? I would definitely appreciate any information you could share. I have excellent “veteran” ESGers on this forum who have provided me with invaluable info about the procedure but I am always looking for more experiences especially since yours was so very recent. Thank you and I hope we can reach our goal together.

Thanks so much Tex! I just breathed a sigh of relief. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who struggled with this. Whew! I’m looking forward to this now. Btw, my children think I’m getting an endoscopic test done. My husband will be the only one who knows and so did my late mother of course. So you’re right that becoming healthy will be a great example to set for them. Although my 4 boys are and were all wrestlers so their fitness and activity level is already up there. I feel like the odd man out in my household so to speak. It would be great to just participate more actively with them. I have written about this with Mel and being more active in addition to getting the weight off is the main goal. Thanks again Tex!

You are an amazing source of strength. I’m hoping my experience will be as smooth as yours. I met with my doctor on Thursday to make sure I knew what to take in terms of meds for the day of procedure and after. He wants me to take the generic Emend for nausea the morning of and then one more the day after in addition to the nausea patch they will give me at the hospital. This should cover any nausea for the first two days. I will also be on Librax for cramping also the morning of the procedure and every four hours for the first two days. After those initial two days it is as needed. The final med is for acid reflux which I’m to take the next day and then for two weeks after. He really reassured me about this procedure as I went in there scared and nervous. He told me I’d be fine and that he’s done at least 50 ESGs at this point and hasn’t seen any complications. What’s interesting is that he tells me that he has been steadily doing 2 per week now! I think Mel was right in saying this procedure is catching on. In all honesty I’m struggling with the preop liquid diet. I’ve tried for three days to stick to it and by the late afternoon I cave and eat something. Do you guys think this is a real problem? Will this affect my procedure? I will try to stick to it for the remaining three days. I guess that is why I needed this procedure in the first place. I’m also worried that. If I can’t stick to it preop does that mean I won’t be able to succeed postop. Any thoughts? Please keep me in your thoughts on February 6. I have grown to view you all as family and I truly hope our paths cross one day. I never would have had the courage to do this without you all cheering me on! All my love.

Hi there. Welcome to our forum. We are always excited to have a member join our group. ESG is still a very new procedure here as well but we do have at least a forum where we can post our experiences. I’m scheduled for February 6 and yes I’m nervous and scared but I totally agree with you that I have to do this for me. Right now my biggest challenge is sticking to the liquid diet my doctor wants me to be on. I should only be drinking protein shakes at this point and the day before (Monday) I have to be on clear liquids. This is difficult but I hope today and the next few days I can find the strength and motivation to keep to it. This is exactly why I need this procedure. Being on this liquid diet proved to me that I really do need this to help me stick to a healthy eating plan. I will continue to post my experiences and hope that when your time comes on March 23 you will have a better understanding of what to expect. Good luck.

Thank you. I think I just need to hear that reassurance. Cold feet are making me second guess😬. I’m going to do this and I’m hoping that the post op is at least manageable. The doc certainly sent me enough meds and I plan to take every single one.
  21. So happy for you Mel! You sound like you are in a much better place mentally and definitely physically. Cheering you on as always!
