What's normal eating post surgery ??
comtngirl posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know that gastric by-pass is probably the best for me since I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes and have hypertension. But I'm scared about how I'm going to eat again....Will you always have to eat like a bird....tiny portions? Of course I know that you cant eat like you use to but I picture little pieces of protein, some veges and little fruit. or do you get to eat all foods you enjoy in a lot smaller doses? Will I never be able to eat a sandwich again? No potatoes or pasta ever? I know change is inevitable but how hard is it to adjust to this? Also, what about my wine once in awhile? Is that totally off limits for the rest of my life? Maybe someone who is post op for a year or longer can give me some advice. Thank you! -
Just found out I have sleep apnea and can't adjust to CPAP Machine
comtngirl posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am so so frustrated trying to use a CPAP machine for sleep apnea - I feel like Im suffocating and getting headaches - how its going to help me sleep through the night is beyond me.... I can't even fall asleep with that on my face with all that air blowing in my nose.... and why is it mandatory prior to surgery? The respiratory therapist changed the settings but Im still having trouble...Please tell me there's hope for me and my CPAP. Anyone here have any advice? If I can't use it, does that mean I can't have surgery? -
Gastric Bypass vs Sleeve...how did you decide?
comtngirl posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not sure what surgery I want or need. I'm just in the starting phases..The nurse mentioned because I am a recently diagnosed diabetic, I should look at by pass over sleeve because its more successful in keeping blood sugars down and I might not need medication anymore. I weight 210 and 5"2 tall - or should I say short? Is it harder post-op to do one over the other? Are there more complications with gastric by-pass? How bout down the road? Is your lifestyle more changed over one or the other? I know gastric you will have to take a lot of vitamins for the rest of your life. I've been reading on this site that people have a lot of gas, smelly breath, etc..will that go away? Does everyone get hanging skin? Is that because it was such a fast weight loss or does anyone who loses that much weight have sagging skin even if they lose it slower...With all the saggy skin will you have to wear clothes to cover it all up? How about your face? Will that become saggy? I'm sorry so many questions....I need some positive insights....and know that life is better on the other side...I know it will be for my health and that's why I'm doing it. Thank you!!! -

Its funny but I just got a full mask in the mail - therapist thought it might work better since I sleep with my mouth open...so I'll try that!!! The smell is so plasticy - hopefully washing it will get rid of that smell... I am anxiously waiting for the next step...I did the mental prof appt and did the sleep apnea thing - I guess what's next are classes - I just sent another email about setting up the classes...the waiting is tough...I'm assuming it won't be done until next year I'm using Kaiser in Denver - anyone else on here used Kaiser for their weight loss surgery???? Thanks for all your great comments!!!! Oh and what's the difference from CPap to BiPap - KP is only offering the Cpap -

Hi! Its only been a week, my setting is 4 and its the nose pillows not the full mask. Im wondering if Im having trouble cause I normally sleep with my mouth open. I really can't go to sleep with it on. After weight loss surgery, will I have a chance of been cured from sleep apnea? do you actually sleep better with it? -
Since I'm a newbie, why do you have to lose 17 lbs before surgery? Is that required for all patients? How do they decide how much you have to lose before surgery....yea the candy at this time is hard to ignore...no, no, no!!! Happy Halloween!

Gastric Bypass vs Sleeve...how did you decide?
comtngirl replied to comtngirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So the saggy skin afterwards doesn't interfere with fitting in your clothes? How about swimsuits? I'm glad to get the input....I just want to feel good... I can't ever imagine running 5 miles but ya never know!!! One mile would be awesome! -
