what kind of questions did you get asked during your psyc appointment
TakingABreak replied to jesslynn32288's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to take an MMPI as well. I took me about 30-40 mins. It was all true or false. Very easy. You can even tell, if you don't have mental health issues, what kind of issues they were looking for. For example, I do believe one question that was asked is "Do you hear voices?" Other questions were a bit stranger. You just have to answer them honestly. After the MMPI, the psychologist asked me pretty basic questions. Some specific to eating behaviors, like binge eating ect. -
I looked into this today after reading this post. I’m super excited to try. Thanks for sharing!

New addiction after Gastric Bypass...Is it serious?
TakingABreak replied to WV_Chef's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
“Do you think it is the Wine that is causing the weight gain, the Full hysterectomy, the desk job or just a combination.??? I would really like to stop any further weight gain and any answers would be appreciated” Probably all the above. Alcohol is empty calories. But the hysterectomy could DEF be playing a big part. Your body went through a huge change hormonally. A lot of women put on weight after menopause (naturally or w/hysterectomy). As far as your desk job, I have the same problem. I found using a step tracker, like a FitBit was really helpful to keep track of my steps per day. It holds me accountable for sure. I have to spend a lot of time outside work hours to get my steps in. -
5 Days post surgery....Today I licked a piece of meatloaf
TakingABreak replied to Creekimp13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there! I’m sure the hunger is terrible but just keep thinking of the prize. Also, you will be able to eat your diet recipes soon enough. It’s really good that those are the things you are craving. That will help when it comes time to eat solids again. Maybe think of a milestone reward? I always try and concentrate on that when things get hard. -
How old are you? Obviously I love you [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]. Good grief, I think I just peed a bit from laughing so hard. Your humor is better than your advice.

Oh I know you won’t change. People like you rarely do. But I’d choke on my words if I said what you do sometimes. So keep on a truckin. Insulting one person and degrading another...

Wife is treating me terrible after surgery.
TakingABreak replied to Thom's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I get what you are saying about being angry. Whether it is right or not, she may be angry. She could love you, @Thom, with all her heart and anger is causing her to lash out and say these things. Counseling is a very wise decision. She needs to learn how to get past this. She could also be overwhelmed. It seems like the weight of everything is on her shoulders. I know that I can get nasty from time to time when I'm overwhelmed. We all can. I suggest sitting down with her in a calm environment and discussing it would be my first piece of advice. But on another note, congrats on your surgery. You did this to better your health and life. She knows that deep down, I promise she does! -
I hope you continue to post on the website because for every one of her, there is someone else who can really help you! PM me anytime you need to chat!

No problem. I'm proud of you for measuring that chicken! That tells me you are going to hit this out of the park!
-
It sounds like to me that she weighed it out because she wanted to be in control of the portion size. What is confusing about that? This isn't a woman who ate a whole bag of chips or box of cookies. Her choosing chicken, her weighing out her chicken, TELLS ME that she is already moving in the right direction. She will do just fine after surgery. Announcement everyone, there is a new cop in town and her name is @dreamingsmall. Are you going to call her surgeons office and tell them she ate 2 oz of chicken? And for the record, they ONLY care if the liver has shrunk. There are 100's of surgeons that don't even do a pre-op diet. I wonder how ever do they do surgery. "Cheating is cheating" Had she done something to actually jeopardize her surgery, I'd say... pick up the pieces and make better decisions. However, she didn't. The reason I joined this forum is because I wanted a support system and to bounce ideas off of one another. Now, mind you, apart of any support system should be someone to hold you accountable. HOWEVER, I think what you are doing is a bit overkill. I haven't had the surgery yet, but I've done enough research and talked to enough people to know why what she did is not the end of the world. So take your 5 months, and use it for good.

Woahhh. A bit harsh. Doesn't seem like you've done your research on why they implement a liver shrinking diet. But Just to let you know there is a food version of that diet. http://www.adipositas-behandlung.de/en/contact-service/info-area/protein-rich-diet-liver-shrinking-diet The better thing to say would be... glad you made the choice to eat 2 oz of grilled chicken. There could have been a lot worse things that you could have chosen.

That chicken is not going to hurt you. The point of the liquid diet is to get your body into ketosis. There are tons of people whose preop diets include lean meat and veggies. My only suggestion is to stop solids 2 days before surgery to ensure you don’t have anything in your system. My surgeons office calls for two week all liquid diet. But the NUT and the Bariatric specialist from the hospital both said that it’s about eating low calorie, no carb (essentially), and low fat. Ketosis. They said veggies and lean meats can get you there too. Just measure your portions and limit it to one meal per day.

So I bought my first jars of baby food last night, in preparation for the pureed phase. Let me back up..... I had my nutritional class was this week and a "bariatric class" that was pretty detailed about the different phases of appropriate foods. Baby food was mentioned. They said it was OK to eat, so long as you read the labels. In other words, no added sugar, and good Protein source. Which if you haven't already went shopping for baby food (for bariatric purposes) practically none of the baby food has a good source of protein. The NUT did say that you could add Protein Powder to the baby food that is lacking. Therefore, back to my baby food shopping extravaganza! I purchased 4 different types of baby food. I was very careful to read each label. The picture attached was just one that I purchased. The others were similar as far as nutritional values. These were $1.00 each, btw. Now, my thought process was this.... and this is where my question comes into play. 1. The NUT said that during the pureed/blended stage most people can only handle 2-4oz at one time. Therefore, I feel like this is pretty good bang for your buck. What do you all think? 2. Are there better options?

baby food....question!
TakingABreak replied to TakingABreak's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The difference between blending tuna, egg, or chicken salad is that baby food doesn't have to be refrigerated. And yes, I would eat this in public if I had to. Honestly, I don't care that much of what people might think for it to hinder my choices. I'm on the go a lot and I could store one or three of those jars in my purse for an easy grab. It would mainly be for those purposes. -
baby food....question!
TakingABreak replied to TakingABreak's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The taste wasn't too bad. I'm sure with some seasoning it would be a lot better. Thank you so much for the recipes. I really do want to make some things for at home. The baby food would be more for on the go. -
StarKist Tuna packets have 14 grams of protein per 4 oz packet. I love them. They can be room temperature, although I like them cold the best. They also only have 100 calories. Hummus and veggie sticks are good.

Good luck. will be thinking of you this morning! All will be fine. The risks are super low. The reason you went through all the testing and requirements were to lower the risk of complication. Have faith and trust in your qualified team. Congratulations, and we are all so proud of you!

Cold intolerance could also be a symptom of anemia. Check with your doctor to make sure your iron levels are OK.

Mine is 1/19/18. -
Going to my nutritional classes tomorrow. One individual and one that is a "bariatric class". This will be the last of my requirements. I got my pulmonary clearance last week. Pre-op testing scheduled for Dec 30th. I hope nothing comes back bad and delays surgery. I'm so ready to get it done!

My GI doctor told me that Miralax is the only constipation medicine that your body doesn’t become immune to over time. Mix it with some water and solvable fiber and you’ll be good as new. When I have problems, I take 2 doses per day. And it is virtually tasteless. I buy the Sam’s Club generic.
