    Today’s the day!

Hi all. Very very rough two days. Im on morphine every two hours and diladid every hour. I have done about 5 laps. However the pain was so intense they sent me for a CT scan. Waiting on the results. I still have a drain in and the doctor thinks it may be from that. I got the hiccups for over an hour, which wasn’t fun. I can say each day feels an inch better. I’ll either go home tomorrow or Monday. I have only been able to half an ounce or two so far of water since surgery. I do still have an IV bag and will continue until I’m making my fluid goals. Thanks for watching out guys!

    Post op pain when walking

Have either of you tried an abdominal binder? This would support your stomach while walking and possibly lessen the pain.

    What Can I Eat?

My doctor did specify no reds or purple 2 days prior to surgery.
  4. My husband fell in love with me while I was heavy. However, I know we will have more opportunities together once I’m thinner and more healthy. He has been with me every step of the way. That being said, I will say that it was something brought up in my psych evaluation. The doctor specifically asked if I thought my husband would “sabotage” me. I was at first a little offended, but he went on to explain that it does happen to some people. Many people have described that their relationships with others change significantly. Nonetheless, congrats on your decision and good luck! This is a great community to get answers like this one.

Problem with too much weight loss?!

You look incredible but let me get this straight.... you don’t have any loose skin, even under where your clothes cover? The usual places are arms, thighs, stomach, breasts....
  6. I understand, I hate insurance changes! Our company keeps raising the rates. I'm thankful that my husband's insurance is wonderful. Hang in there! I hope your doctor can offer some kind of solution that will help.
  7. I know you said that you were nervous to convert from a sleeve to a bypass, but it could save you from the side affects of the GERD. I'd highly consider doing a conversion, IF the problem doesn't resolve SOON. My doctor said that if you have even the occasional acid reflux, that the sleeve is not an option for you. Bypass has A LOT LESS chance of having this problem. I'm sorry you are going through this, but it make take additional steps to correct the situation. I'm having my surgery to get off of all medications, not add ones! Just ask your self, what do you have to loose? You are still on an a liquid diet. You are in constant agony, from the sounds of it. You are already dealing with malnutrition. I think from here, the only place you have to go is UP. Here is a quote from a study by the National Institutes of Health. "Roux-en-Y gastric bypass was considered an effective method to alleviate symptoms of GERD, whereas laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy appeared to increase the incidence of the disease." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3968207/
  8. I like Vitamin Water Zero. It’s sweetened with stevia. Not overly sweet.

    130 pounds lost - 11 months

    Beautiful! Congrats!
  11. Thank you so much! When I get dolled up, I go big! It’s fun to do it once in awhile for sure. I’m so excited for us! Glad to have you apart of my journey. [emoji173]️
  12. Sooo let me air out my dirty laundry, AKA my smelly breath. My mouth tastes like garbage and my breath (I can only imagine) smells like it tastes. Never have I had this problem in life. Is this because of ketosis? Is this going to go away. I hope I’m not suddenly skinny but I’ve traded for smelly. I’ve tried biotene dry mouth spray, nope didn’t help. I drink 100+oz of water per day. I’m trying to stay away from gum because I know I can’t have it after surgery. Please help!
  13. I do mix it up from time to time with crystal light. I’m thinking the mouth wash would give better relief than the breath spray. I need some serious blast of minty goodness.
  14. I love this as well! I believe this to be a safe place for stuff like this! No shame in your game! You are really beautiful with 130lbs to go! Your confidence is contagious! You make me want to video myself, for memories

    Two years post op

You are an inspiration, seriously! And gorgeous. Thank you for sharing!

    Help Please: Nauseous from Water!

Oh jeeze, I was under the impression you were still pre op, and doing the preop diet? I can’t see that in the app. I just saw your post on another thread and assumed. Disregard my suggestion if you are post op. Again, I think during these beginning stages our bodies are adjusting to such few calories, carbs etc. Nausea is inevitable. This too shall pass.
  17. Glad to know it will go away! One of the very unpleasant side affects for me. Ick! SMH.
  18. This is almost identical to what I got from my NUT. People on here thought I was crazy when I said 120 carbs a day. Glad you shared!

    Severely Constipated.

Miralax, every-single-day! Even if you are doing good. On days you aren’t doing well, take 2 doses. It took me weeks to become regular. My GI doctor told me that Miralax is the only medicine on the market that your body doesn’t become immune to. And soluble fiber, not the gummies or tabs.

    Pre-op diet

I’m on day 7. It gets better! Just drink lots of water, it helps you stay full.

    Cardiologist

Weird, I do have diabetes (no family history of heart disease) and all I needed was an EKG. However I am under 30 so maybe that makes a difference? I can fully relate to having to jump through hoops tho! I can join the circus after this experience. Hang in there.
  22. @Creekimp is right about narcotics interfering with digestion. My surgeon does ZERO pain medication besides liquid Tylenol after surgery (even during hospital stay). I also have a nearly 4 hour car ride home afterwards *yikes* As far as the nursing staff, honestly, just remember that they are trained to pick up on things that we may not think is a big deal. Reading your post, it could have been interpreted as drug seeking behavior. There is always pain associated with major surgery. The key is that it is very very temporary. For anyone reading this who hasn’t had surgery, I suggest talking to your doctor about pain management prior to surgery.

    Help Please: Nauseous from Water!

I had the exact same experience. The protein drinks were gagging me and the nausea was horrendous. The first 3 days I had 1-2 shakes a day. Less than 300 calories. My doctor prefers an all liquid 2 week diet. However, in the Bariatric class we all had to take, someone asked the coordinator about the food version of the LSD (liver shrinking diet). The coordinator said that whatever works can be done. A lot of people like the easiness of doing the shakes because they don’t have to count their calories and MACROS. Needless to say I’ve incorporated some food into my preop diet. It’s very little food and not the kind of food I’d typically enjoy, but food nonetheless. And I feel 100% better. The key is to have less than 25 carbs per day. Approx 700 calories and less than 10 grams of fat. 90+ grams of protein. I use MyFitnessPal to log all my food choices. And I’m down 16lbs in the first 7 days. I’m doing something right. Hang in there. Don’t be afraid of reaching out to your doctor and seeing if you can incorporate some food.

7 days on Pre Op Diet

No problem! Hang in there! We’ve got this.
