  1. The title of this post is "dumpings finished...." Answer me this, does dumping syndrome go away after time? I wasn't under that impression?

    1 day post op question

Oh man, I had them while in the hospital. They had to give me medication to stop them. I'd call your surgeon and ask for something. Another thing to remember with hiccups--make sure you stretch your arms above your head. It all has to do with stabilizing your diaphragm.
  3. You are very right! The most important thing is to focus on your liquid intake. It will take you weeks to actually meet your protein goals. Right now, drink what you can keep down and as much of it as possible. One other thing I did, I drank Pedialyte when I was dehydrated. Make sure you are having your "meals" pretty regular. I did every 2-3 hours when I was only getting in 2-3oz at a time.
  4. Yeah I wouldn't use it for my sole source of protein, but bone broth is highly recommended as one source of protein during the liquid stages. I did protein shakes of course too. Not a lot of options that early on.
  5. And it is way better than plain broth. It is thicker in consistency and is delicious! I stocked up pre op and now I make soup with it. You can't beat the protein values.

    Not full [emoji33]🤬

Hang in there! I struggled during that phase too. I was also one of the people who's hunger didn't seem to subside much. I still struggle, but I've learned extremely good self control. Otherwise I would find myself grazing. It does get better and when you are hungry, it won't take much to satisfy that hunger. By the time you are on a regular diet, it will be a thing of the past.
  7. I agree 100%. I hate jello. the only time I did jello was when I made these jello infused protein cups. It was 12 grams of protein per 2 oz. I just took it like a champ, but hated every bite!
  8. Another suggestion is a lot of people after WLS have nausea with sweet items. How do you do with savory? I drank a lot of bone broth in my first two weeks. There is a brand you buy at Walmart and it has great protein values. I would sip on this all day long.
  9. Oh thank heavens! I was worried about you for a second. OK! Well in that case, in my program they suggest that you introduce new foods only one at a time to see what upsets your stomach, and what sits well. Are you trying these in the same meal time, or even same day? I would start over and do only one new item per day. Also, make sure you are doing unsweetened applesauce. Even if it is 100% natural, the sugar may be what is causing you nausea. I know that my program allowed 100% juice in my full liquid stage, and it was way too sweet for me. I didn't dump or anything extreme, but the nausea was unbearable. Also, have you asked your doctor for a nausea medication. I still take some now and again at 8 weeks post op.

Remember that liquids run straight through. There is no "residue" with liquids and therefore the full feeling, if at all, is short lived. This will change dramatically when you move on to pureed and soft foods. Right now, just focus on only eating the amounts that your program suggest. For me I was having 2-3oz every 3 hours.
  11. But in your original post you say that you are eating food? Are you eating food?
  12. To @Creekimp13's point, I wouldn't even consider solid or semi solid food until 3 weeks post op. In my program, you do a full week of clear liquids, a week of full liquids, and then pureed foods, soft foods, and then regular diet. If you have the sleeve, then the full liquid stage is actually 2 weeks. Sleeve patients have a longer staple line and require longer healing times.
  13. That does stink that it basically adds a stall week per month because of our stupid menstrual cycle. Joys of womanhood I guess! I remind myself about how many calories equals a pound each time I've stepped on the scale this week. It is super frustrating. I've fluctuated all the way to +4lbs. And then the next morning I will be down 2lbs and so on.... Next month when it is this time, I won't even weigh in. It's too stressful.
  14. I got my first period two days ago, while on birth control (I might add). I know I couldn't have possibly "gained" weight, but the scale did move up 2lbs since I've been on my cycle. Is this something you all experience? Is it water retention or hormones? The biggest question, once you are off your lady friend, does the weight just come off, plus some? I'm still working out all throughout. I'd hate to think I'm not going to loose for the 4-5 days I'm on it.

    Pondering the end result

I think my stomach is definitely flattening, but it is also hanging down lower. I'm trying to be patient, but there are areas that could use a lot more attention from the fat loss fairy!
  17. First of all, I don't eat fast food. However, at least if I was going to, I could order from the children's menu, because who questions you in a drive-thru? Nobody, that's who. The main reason I hate going to restaurants is that you pay $7.99+ for a few bites. And unless you are sure that it warms up good, it is a COMPLETE waste of money. I could order a cup of soup or something, but I try really hard to get my protein in first. Therefore it usually requires some type of meat. I've heard of the "card" that you give to participating restaurants, but I'm leery if it actually works. I wouldn't want to have to go through the hassle of explaining my personal health history to my waitress. Nonetheless, I eat at home 99.9% of the time, which is fine, except we are a social couple. Going out to eat is a thing, even with my skinny friends. Any advice?

    I hate eating out now!

This is so true! I keep thinking I'll be a fat person forever, but one day I will be thin and it wouldn't be "unusual" for a thin person to not finish their plate. You don't realize until you can only eat 4-6 oz how RIDICULOUS the portion sizes truly are.

    Before and After (So far)

OK! I commented before reading your stats! WOW! WOW! WOW! you are such an inspiration @DrunkenRage! I literally have tears from reading this. I was worried that I started out "too heavy" and even if I loose 80% excess weight, I still wont be a healthy BMI... but you, sir, have given me tremendous hope! Thank you!

    Pre Op Diet

I'd say that it is OK. All the no-no's are checked off. If you like flavored water, you may want to consider Protein Water as well. Protein2o is really yummy! It is a great way to get in your protein requirements.

    I hate eating out now!

I agree with the way of thinking. I think as time goes on I will get over this notion that eating out is a waste of money. I will say that eating out makes me feel normal, in some ways, and reminds me of this journey in others. Either way, as time goes on I won't give it a second thought.
