Weirdest coments you've gotten since WLS
TakingABreak replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Actually, in my program this is a BIG "No-No". Drinking while eating will allow you to be able to eat more per sitting and can eventually cause your stoma to stretch. I've adjusted just fine without liquids while eating. I don't miss it at all. I actually think food tastes better. -
Today I stopped into David’s Tea and picked up their new “splash collection” and their new cold press pitcher. Seriously, delicious! If you are a tea drinker, check them out in store or online. If you are struggling to find something to drink after surgery.... this tea isn’t like store bought tea...it’s heavenly.

Although I won't advocate going against your doctor's orders... I remember I went into my pureed stage a day early, and into soft foods 2 days early. For example, the pureed stage I ate soup, which was pretty much the same consistency of the full liquids I had already been eating. The "no-no" is the types of foods that are approved to be pureed. Then I ate an egg going into soft foods. If you must skip ahead, I'd advice to go very very very slow. Like bariatric slow, but slower! And I would avoid anything too fibrous.

that sucks! I remember when I was your stage... I hated thinking about going to the grocery store because nothing tasted right. Luckily for me, that went away. I don't have many aversions to anything now. So give it some time, you may enjoy it again. -
Tea Drinkers

I had the Rhubarb cream soda and it was good, but not as good as the other one's I've tried. Maybe I just don't like rhubarb as much as I thought I did. -
Can’t stomach chewable vitamins anymore!!

When you can swallow pills, I've started taking a new bariatric vitamin recently. It's got a fair amount of Iron in it at 45 mg -
I ate a lot of -Greek yogurt - refried beans** - soup** (I bought a vitamix, and they have FABULOUS pureed soup recipes on their website) - mashed potatoes** - cottage cheese - Egg salad (w/o the celery) - Tuna salad - Pureed, cooked carrots, green beans, edamame, and other veggies! - Protein shakes, I usually had at least 1 per day. ** with added unflavored protein powder

Confessions from a non-com (as in non-compliant)

I like the part about exercise being important. I there is a lot of vets on here that think healthy eating is the end all be all, but exercise is important for life long health. My program also considers exercise to be a pillar of the program. -

So I noticed this is during the pureed phase.... so your protein goals don't go up as you reach solid foods? I'm sure you probably surpass this goal daily anyway. -

I eat whole grains and fruit as well. I just said "limit" because I think early on with restriction at its highest...its still important to follow the protein first rule, then veggies. 60 grams is light compared to most programs I've seen, but that's great! I drink a smoothie every morning with 45grams. I'd be killing it under your program. My NUT ideally would like to see me around 100 grams per day. I usually hit that no program. My plan would say a pear is OK too, but I know that there is a lot of sugar in fruit and that's why I crave my cantaloupe. Its my "dessert" so to speak. -
Anyone not feeling restriction anymore?

I feel guilty at least twice a week when I eat my beloved cantaloupe. And I look forward to it each time. YUM! -

You FOR SURE want to eat your Protein first.... if you eat other things you won't have room and you won't meet your protein goals. Typically you should have around 80-90 grams of protein per day. It will take every meal of protein rich choices to meet this goal. Plus, besides protein and veggies....you should limit your whole grains and fruit consumption. Don't want to overload on carbs. You will learn all of this when you see the NUT. -
I've never dumped yet, but I steer clear of things with added sugar. If I do have something with added sugar it is less than 5grams per serving, typically. Its just not worth it.

Tea Drinkers

I haven’t tried any green tea blends but I hadn’t had anything bad yet! Let me how you like it. -

It was soda, diet or regular, and potato chips. I haven't had either one since pre surgery. I don't think I could have one in moderation without slipping back into a deep dark hole. -
I make my own Greek salad and it is my go to snack. And it’s got a good crunch with cucumbers and cherry tomatoes.

TMI ... let's call this "things sit differently for a smaller man"

Welcome to the club! You have a great day as well! -
First of all, everything after surgery will be an adjustment but then it becomes 2nd nature, normal to you. My whole family revolves around food. We get together to eat, and happen to socialize. At first eating out or with other people felt awkward. I felt impatient waiting for everyone to finish their meals. I felt uncomfortable sitting and watching everyone eat after I finished my very small portion. It was uncomfortable to have the questions from family and friends about what I can eat, the amazement about how small of an amount that I do eat now. But things wind down, and people get used to the new you. And you get used to the new you. I have a very thin husband, and he doesn't need to loose any weight. He eats like crap. I still buy him crap foods. If it was pre surgery, it would have bothered me that he would eat a half dozen cookies in front of me. But now, I don't think twice about it. I know that I can't eat those things. I don't want to eat those things. My progress is such a huge motivator. I tell you this because, it goes to show how our thought processes change after surgery.

Tea Drinkers
TakingABreak replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I haven’t had one that disappoints. They even have blends that you can add almond milk to and make a “latte”. I was drinking flavored box tea from the grocery store and steeping double the bags to enhance the flavor, I don’t need to do that with David’s Teas. -

Love the Me to We! It’s really good! I love that they make caffeine free and they have a rating system for the others. -

I just peed a little from laughing so hard! I’m going to ask my hubby now LMAO -
I think it all depends on what you eat. I can seriously BINGE on some cantaloupe. I'm not even joking, and I know this because I've done it... post op binging, by accident of course. I was sitting in front of the TV, and I looked down to see that I had eaten probably 3 cups, 3 full cups of cut up cantaloupe. I can't barely manage a 4 oz salmon filet with 2 tbsp. of cottage cheese on the side.

That's awesome!

I didn't do food funerals. I had the outlook that I will eat things again in moderation. However, I've realized that there is a lot that I have no intention on eating, any time soon. For example, sweets.... I try not to eat anything with added sugars. If it does have added sugar, then I keep it under 5 grams per serving. Again, this is extremely rare. I'm afraid to death to dump, especially in public. So I can't imagine just picking up a bag of sour patch kids and only having a "few", which would have been my thoughts prior to surgery. So while, I didn't have food funerals..... I realized that I said goodbye, without saying goodbye to a lot of things. Most likely forever, I hope forever.
