Losing weight but not sizes
TakingABreak replied to Krizivester's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate to disappoint you but, I'm 4 months post op and over 90lbs down and I just this week got new pants, I went from a 24/26 to a 16/18 (so realistically only 2 sizes). My belly is hanging on for DEAR LIFE... And while I know that at my high BMI, 90lbs is just the half way point... so I shouldn't be discouraged. But have you ever thought about filling up a grocery cart worth of 90lbs of ground beef? Well, I have... and how do you loose 90lbs in everywhere, seemingly, but your belly! Frustration should be my username. -

6 months Post op and can eat a whole burrito in 3 hours!
TakingABreak replied to VSG_Meow_Bitch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could probably do this as well at 4 months post op. You've got to think that your stomach empties out around 30-45 minutes after eating. I only know this because I've thrown up within that time period and it was nothing but the notorious foamies. Therefore, yes you could continue eating with breaks for hours on end. The surgery only limits the amount that you can eat in a single setting. 3 hours is NOT a single setting. I'd be very careful with how you proceed gong forward. Its the same thing with drinks with calories.... you could drink your weight right back on. -

Male Facial Hair Loss Question
TakingABreak replied to Syntax_Attack's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's my understanding that the hair loss comes during the next natural shedding cycle . Everyone sheds at the end of the "telogen" phase, which is approximately every 3-4 months. it depends on when your surgery is with correlation to your next telogen phase, as to when you will experience hair loss. Mayo Clinic indicates that this is hair included in this phase are "scalp and longer for hairs on the eyebrow, eyelash, arm, and leg". Therefore, I'm not sure if beard hair is included. I honestly don't know if beard hairs shed. Hope this helps. https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/hair-loss/science-hair#2 -
Weirdest coments you've gotten since WLS
TakingABreak posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The other day my girl friends and I went to a bar/restaurant and they ordered drinks upon entering. I said, "nothing for me". Later she brought us our menus and their drinks. The waitress didn't say anything then, but eventually said "So why aren't we drinking anything? Why aren't you hydrating? Fluids are friends!" I told her I don't eat and drink at the same time. It seemed to suffice her curiosity. But it made me think that there has to be some weird stuff people have heard! -
Overnight Bag Worries
TakingABreak replied to It's about Me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I brought my iPad and I had a TV in my room, but I didn't touch either one the whole time I was there, which was 5 days. I was up walking the halls or sleeping. It's not a bad idea, but I'd def have your brother in law hold onto that until you get to your room. -
Overnight Bag Worries
TakingABreak replied to It's about Me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
They put my stuff in the bottom of my bed and I was moved to the same bed after the operating table, which followed me to the recovery and my room. I'd say to empty out your wallet of all but necessary things. I wouldn't leave any cash or credit cards. You can even just have a wristlet with your insurance card and drivers license. -
Bio Oil seems to be helping my Turkey Neck
TakingABreak replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been using bio oil for the last few weeks and I also see a big difference. Thanks for sharing. It's relatively cheap too for most skin care products. I normally have really dry skin and now my face is smooth as can be. -

thank you! I appreciate it. I'll be rooting for you too -
I'm having a garage sale at the end of the month with another woman. I will take pictures of everything setup in my garage right now. It is insane when you think its clothes from only 2 women. I'm almost embarrassed I had so much stuff. But I'm proud to be getting rid of it because I'm too small for them. (Unlike her who has the opposite problem ) For years I had to keep buying up and up. I kept ahold of clothes thinking I'd one day loose the weight. Little did I know that I'd have WLS and loose so fast I wouldn't need all those clothes I kept. I'll take pictures tonight of our insane sale. Seriously over 200+ items.... and growing.

Eating feels like a chore. Does that end?
TakingABreak replied to Topher_B's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Frust, @S@ssen@ch is right about her description of food aversion. I used that word too flippantly. Honestly, mine was just a mere lack of appetite for the longest time. When you aren't hungry, you aren't going to have a taste for anything and things may even look unappealing. But the suppressed appetite doesn't last forever, so it's important to embrace that. The key thing is to get all your protein in during this suppressed phase. You almost have to force yourself to stay on track with eating throughout the day. It may be a challenge to get all the food in with restriction, but also with a lack of appetite. -

I feel the same way, about it being too good to be true. But I'd be happy to loose another 70lbs. Loosing 200lbs excess for me puts me at 130lbs, which is what I should be at for a healthy BMI. Realistic, I don't know, but time will tell. -

Gardein Meat-less
TakingABreak replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Dinner tonight is “chicken” flatbread pizza. The chicken is Gardein meatless brand and made from soy and pea protein(made without the teriyaki sauce). Both have fat free ranch as the sauce. Mine has cherry tomatoes and red onion caramelized in balsamic vinegar. My husbands has bacon, the real kind. Topped with fat free mozzarella and cheddar cheese. -
Eating feels like a chore. Does that end?
TakingABreak replied to Topher_B's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My food aversion ended at approximately 8 weeks post op. During those first 8 weeks, I felt like food was a menace. I ate out of necessity. If I hadn't lost very quickly, I would have been completely miserable. But, one week I went to the grocery store and all the sudden I had a taste for certain things again. I also looked up a lot of recipes to try. -

We need Fat Moderators
TakingABreak replied to Creekimp13's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
I felt insensitive when I posted about women's swimsuits to the guy who was asking about a swim shirt. But it was one of those things that I couldn't tell his gender and I was on the app. I couldn't see what kind of room it was in. But not on purpose and I'm not real sensitive about that kind of stuff. Just felt bad for him. -
We need Fat Moderators
TakingABreak replied to Creekimp13's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
On this topic, @Alex Brecher I have embarrassingly posted in a "guys only" room about the topic of swimsuit options, nonetheless. It would be great to see what kind of room it is in from the app. I could see having a room for weight specific people, 300#, 200#, 100#, ect. It's just the same as Veteran's rooms. The vet's have typically already lost the weight. What's the difference if you wanted to only talk with someone who's close to you in weight. I don't think its offensive, unless people make it offensive. Sometimes I like to reach out to people close to my BMI so I can bounce ideas off them. My BMI was 58.8 when I started, someone that started at 40 couldn't possibly relate as much as someone in my range. I get that we are all on a journey, but some of us have a lot longer paths. Its good to have a variety of inputs for sure, but when you want to, it would be beneficial to have a room to limit the responses to specific people. Same way as the gender specific rooms. Guys want guys only inputs once in awhile.
