When will it stop hurting to drink water?
TakingABreak replied to Elle E's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I still cannot drink straight water and I'm 4 mons post op. I was told it is a texture thing with water and your pouch. Try adding something to it, like a caffeine free tea, flavor additive, lemon, lime, cucumber, ect. It may help. Also try different temperatures of water as well. -
Depression and Self-Doubt
TakingABreak replied to Danny S.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's totally normal Stacy. There is an overflow of hormones surging through your blood stream due to the fat loss. Plus, you just had major surgery 3 weeks ago. You have dramatically changed your diet, and this will cause a range of emotions. Things will get better! I know that at 4 weeks I started working out and it helped me release a lot of emotions I was carrying around. -
Older Patient: will my skin sag?
TakingABreak replied to Midwest Girl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
that's a great attitude, you won't regret it! Skin is so minor compared to the troubles of being overweight. -
Older Patient: will my skin sag?
TakingABreak replied to Midwest Girl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
A lot of people loose a couple pant sizes when they have skin removal. I doubt you will "still look fat" afterwards, but its very possible to loose inches if you decided to go the plastics route. Good thing that they make some amazing shape wear now-a-days. -
Today is the day! Happy surgery day to me!!
TakingABreak replied to FabulousFun87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your surgery! I also had problems with a nurse my first night, and had to talk with the Nurse Manager. It's important to file a complaint, so that they can correct the problem for future patients. -
Depression and Self-Doubt
TakingABreak replied to Danny S.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is very common to go through depression after this surgery. I would discuss the possibility that you might have absorption issues with the Prozac. Also, I would enlist the help of a therapist during this time. It really helps to have someone in your corner to talk through all these changes. Even with all the good, it can be overwhelming. Take care! -
Need some advice guys! Last few days, I am so tired. I could literally fall asleep talking to people. I was at a very important business meeting today. I kept blinking my eyes so much to keep them open, I'm afraid I looked crazy. I haven't had tiredness like this since I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a few years ago. My apnea number is really significant, 123 events per hour w/o the machine. I'd imagine my number is lower now since I've lost all this weight. Anyway, back on topic. I thought maybe my apneas were out of control some how because I can relate this tiredness to before the machine. I called my respiratory therapist who can download my sleep results remotely. She looked and said that my events per hour are less than 1 and my leakage is very low. Which leads me to my next question... what in the world is causing me to be this tired. This isn't just, "I'm a little tired today", this is a "I probably shouldn't drive my car home from work tired". I had my vitamin levels checked at 3 months post op, which was just over a month ago. Everything was within normal ranges. Could something have changed in that short period of time? The crazy part is I've had a regular iced tea the last few days, and I haven't had caffeine in MONTHS. So I would have thought I would be even more alert. I'm seriously alarmed with the level of tired I feel. I don't know if I should go to the doctor or what....

Looking to buy a new scale. Can anyone provide me with reviews, pictures, where to buy, ect. of scales they recommend. I'm virtually clueless on what is out there. I'm completely comfortable with techy tho. Thanks!

I would echo seeing a therapist. With a combo of hormones and the changes you are going through, its a mixture for situational depression. This too shall pass.

My rings were loose from the very beginning. My feet and hands shrunk immediately. But it took about 2 months to get back into my rings. Now they are borderline falling off, but they said its bad for your rings to have them sized too many times. Therefore, I'm holding off, because I've already had them done twice in the past.

Freaking Exhausted
TakingABreak replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wanted to give you guys an update. I still don't have much of an answer. I called my surgeon's office who reluctantly is going to mail me a few lab orders to retest my Iron, Vitamin D, and Hemoglobin. However, they don't really think that the problem is in my levels. I can't get in to see my primary doctor until the end of this month. So I'm just stuck practically falling asleep in non-active settings. I'm completely fine if I'm up moving or working on something. The second I sit down, WHAM. I feel like a wave of sleepiness overcomes me. -
The one thing you could not live without post surgery
TakingABreak replied to Oceanlove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't have lived without the clip on fan they brought me to attach to the bed rail. I was so hot for the couple days after surgery. I would have laid in bed naked if I could have. So a personal fan, not a bad option. Other than that, extra long charger, lip balm, dry mouth spray, pillow from home, very comfy and loose fitting pants, soft bra (if your brave enough to wear one home), slippers to walk the halls, and I brought my robe for when the IV came out. -
Eating everything in moderation
TakingABreak replied to annanay1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The answer to your question is complicated. I'd say, no. But let me explain, as to not discourage you. I had RNY, so I don't eat anything with added or processed sugar. I used to eat sweets now and again, now the sweetest I get is fruit. My whole diet has changed. I don't hardly eat anything I used to. I'm very focused on lean protein, whereas before, I would have eaten my potato and my salad first and barely touched my chicken. There is so much that I have to say, "no thanks" to. But I also don't crave things like I used to either. After time, you don't think about the things you can't have. It just becomes second nature, like someone who is lactose intolerant. -

I might order some condiments from this website, because I've saved up points that I didn't know existed until last week. I've got at least $25 off right now. -
Eating everything in moderation
TakingABreak replied to annanay1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't say I cook blandly, but since the surgery I'm not as adventurous with flavors as I used to be. I used to like spicy things and now I steer clear. Probably because I had something early on that was so spicy it made me start coughing and I felt desperate for a drink. I haven't wanted to repeat this. I don't buy specific WLS condiments, but I do measure. I also look at the labels and buy mostly natural ingredients and yogurt based salad dressings. -
Eating everything in moderation

Oh yea, I didn't think about the sugars. I didn't realize that tomato soup has added sugar. But, I guess I have to be careful with pasta sauce as well. It always amazes me how much added sugar is in everything. But when people make things from scratch, for example pasta sauce, do they really think to add sugar? Maybe, but I don't. I guess I hear it one of two ways. People always talk about the calorie content of condiments, but I was also recommended to add sauces. To each their own! -

TakingABreak replied to annanay1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people might scold me, but I still sauce things, especially meats. I use sugar free BBQ sauce, low fat ranch, low sodium gravy, A-1 sauce, ect. It helps get the meats down. I say as long as you measure and include it in your calorie/fat intake for the day, its worth a shot. -

Could be the sodium in the tomato soup (I'm assuming it's shelf bought?). I've got a really good recipe for a homemade if you'd be willing to give it shot. Do you dump with anything else acidic? -
3 weeks and 3 days post op and have only lost 10 lbs
TakingABreak replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You've lost on average 3.3lbs per week. This is pretty good. If you continue to loose 3 lbs you will have lost 79.2lbs in 6 months. 158.2 lbs in a year. I wouldn't concentrate on how quickly you loose, rather that you follow the program. This is meant to take 12-18 months. -
Sleep question for post op.
TakingABreak replied to iPlay4keeps's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very tired after my surgery also. It wasn't until soft foods week 4-5 that I felt more energized and started working out. I napped on and off throughout the day, but I never slept during the day for more than an hour. Its important to get up and move around to avoid blood clots. Also, if you are sleeping, you aren't hydrating. Sleep is important, but as long as you balance it with activity and fluids. -
