  1. True true, but he will be spending all his time in the bigotry room by himself anyway.
  2. Every time I stall, I have to cut the fruit. Its grueling, but necessary. It always solves the problem.

    Kindness is a Movment

When I first joined this community, there was a member that I would see constantly insulting other members. I'm even going to say her name, because I'm not afraid to, Dreamingsmall. I hated her responses, and she was even called out by Alex numerous times that her behavior had to stop or she'd be banished. Anyway, the point to my story, is there are always someone who isn't tactful and is downright mean. However, like @Orchids&Dragons said in her comment, "Tough love is still love and, at least imo, support includes both positive and negative inputs." There is always a place for tough love. Most of the people on here aren't just "getting off", so to speak, on trolling posts looking for Ops who need a spanking. They are giving their honest advice because they have been through it and know what works. And in my personal experience, they NEED that tough love. I wish I could reach through the computer and shake the snot out of some of them. Sometimes what they are doing to themselves is down right dangerous and self sabotaging. The way I see it, is if we didn't care... we'd egg them on and encourage the bad behavior. I think we care so much that we type out PAGE long posts sometimes because we want to help. Because we want the OP to avoid the pain and heartache of failure.

    newbie- strange questions or noT!

Leaks are pretty unlikely from a laugh or cough. But you have to be careful not to lift anything heavy for approx. 4-6 weeks (my limitation was 10lbs, then 20lbs). It will be sore and you will know when to "baby" it. The hospital that I had surgery at gives all bariatric patients a "Bari-Bear" and it helps when you sneeze or cough to hold it close to your abdomen. You can do the same thing with a pillow. Scar tissue can always pose a risk, but that's what pre op testing is for. It should only cause a problem for future surgeries. There is always the possibility of a stricture as well. But they are easily identified and treated. You don't need to practice sipping, your body will remind you, that I promise. Some people don't have a problem with drinking after a few days, weeks, and some take months. But within a few weeks, I could gulp without a problem. The bigger concern is the frequency that you are drinking. Make sure you set a timer and get your fluids in. One of my top ten tips, is to avoid protein shakes until you have to (pre op diet or after surgery) because those shakes will become your worst enemy eventually. No need to expedite the process. Crushed ice should be OK after surgery. I know a lot of community members who actually make snow cone ice and its been a God sent for them. Good luck my dear! Congrats

    Am I the only one?

Omg, I was extremely frightened of this. The flu was taking people out left and right. I had gotten my flu shot in the fall, but I was terrified. In fact, they bumped up my surgery time because the 3 people before me had to reschedule due to the flu. What made matters worse was, I had to stop all vitamins for 10 days prior to surgery. So, my regimen of Vitamin C wasn't an option. I carried around hand sanitizer and washed every chance I could get. I also avoided going out unnecessarily for the few weeks before. I cooked at home, and was EXTREMELY paranoid. I literally took my temperature 3 times a day in the days leading up to surgery. I had everything planned to the "T". My surgery was over 3 hours away, and I had already timed out my Primary Physician's release, the pre op testing, all of my travel arrangements, and pet/house sitting deposits. I would have lost hundreds of dollars if it had been canceled. Thankfully it worked out, and I had surgery as scheduled. I think the stress really took a toll. I ended up with Shingles (I'm 29 btw) before I left the hospital after surgery.
  6. Actually, @Alex Brecher please grant Syntax_Attack his wish and restrict women from entering the male only room's. He needs a restrictive audience with his closed minded and blatantly discriminatory comments. It's in this communities best interest to limit who can see his posts. Maybe he'd argue to open a bigotry room as well and he can be the only one allowed in.
  7. LAST THING, I promise. Because I'm seriously disturbed by some of the blatant disrespect for gender identity in this post. And if there was an angry emoticon, @Syntax_Attack "reputation" would decline in a hurry. Your comments are closed minded and an embarrassment to the community. If the ladies chose to only post in the gal's only rooms, the men wouldn't have anything to talk about or anyone to talk to. Be careful what you wish for.
  8. In what world does “inaccurate info “beat the ants off of not having any at all”?! It’s the same darn thing. I think his point is that if he gets on the scale and there is loss (specifically talking about the fat %), even if it's not accurate, its still helpful information. He knows that he is trending in the right direction. Actually, someone recommended one for me and I just ordered it. It does the same type thing. It's got 5k 4 star reviews on Amazon. I think it's unfair to say that they are all inaccurate. I don't think there are 5k people out there that LOVE inaccuracy. Just sayin.

    @beta98 welcome to the group!
  11. There is a post dedicated to gals who started 300+lbs I’ll tag you in it. Lots of success stories there.
  12. I hope it’s possible. I’m only 4 mons post op and lost 100lbs so far. If I stop now, I’ll be grossly disappointed.

Not Your Typical Pre Op Diet Post

I think you are doing amazing! We all wish it would fall off overnight *sigh* but alas we make the best of it.
  14. Ok, fair enough. I think everyone in the healthcare field should come up with a plan that the patient can be successful with.
  15. I waited until 4 months post op. My drink of choice has always been vodka and Red Bull. So, I had vodka and sugar free Red Bull. I actually had a sugar free Red Bull by itself prior to mixing the two, that way I'd know if it was the alcohol or not causing an issue. I had no problems at all. I did about half of an airplane sized bottle mixed with a full Red Bull. I had several of them throughout the night. Spread out and with food mixed in. My NUT said the only time its okay to eat and drink is with alcohol.
  16. Ultimately, there is nothing I'd post on this forum that I'd neither want, man or woman to see. It is the internet, after all.
  17. I agree with you, but I don't want to give unwanted advice or insight. So I'd rather support their decision to be private. Also, the population of men is dramatically lower than women, so if they get less feedback and support, so be it. *shrugs*
  18. I think leaving it open is just asking for trolls. If you are serious about WLS, join as a member, you can always delete your account.

Not Your Typical Pre Op Diet Post

See I was the opposite. My insurance didn't require any of that. All I had to do was 1 nutritional visit and psych evaluation. My program required a bariatric class and pulmonary clearance. Needless to say, I actually gained weight from my first visit with the surgeon in October until I started the pre op diet. I put on 10-15lbs easy! I also quit smoking in October which didn't help matters. But by the beginning of November, I was on track and gave up everything else. I had a rough time on the pre op diet, but my worst offense was eating a few slices of cucumber in the first few days. Def not, doughnuts or cheeseburgers, ect. I don't know if my liver was huge or not, but they did my surgery with no complaints.
  20. What I mean by that is, I think all posts should be private to registered users. That would a good start for privacy. Then, you could tackle the gender issue. I'm just saying, why care if women can post on it, if the whole damn world can see it? It might be well within the capabilities of most forums, but I don't think its being implemented in any of the posts here (non viewable to non registered users).

    Bratwurst?

My husband loves bratwurst and I thought for sure there was some good protein, I was wrong. You are better off eating chicken, fish, or beef. Even pork.

I really messed up on pre diet

    And topic started,
  23. I think all posts should be only accessed by registered users, but its not that way now. I think there's a bigger bridge to be built than narrowing it down per gender. I'm just saying, you can restrict someone from commenting, but it doesn't make it private in anyway.
