    Despair

It will pass! When you start to see real improvements, and I'm talking about the NSV (non-scale victories) you will no longer regret your choice. Sometimes these are small improvements to your life that make a big impact. Such as, not sitting too close to the steering wheel in the car, being able to wipe your butt easier, or shoes feeling looser. It's these things that really boost morale. I was 345lbs at my highest, 332lb when I started the pre op diet, and I didn't see a visible difference until I was nearly 80lbs down. What I'm saying is, that simply losing 50lb, 75lbs won't make you feel better.... it's the NSV that will keep you positive and moving in the right direction. Feel free to PM me day or night. I'm always around for a vent session or if you need a pick me up. And I'm sorry that this thread is over a week old, hopefully you still get my response!

    Post op alcohol

I was cleared for alcohol after my 3 month appointment, but I waited until 4 months post op to try. I tried at home. I did sugar free red bull and plain vodka. The red bull can even says "light carbonation" and it didn't bother me in the slightest. I drank very slowly. You can do sugar free juices and hard alcohol though. Honestly, no matter what you have for the alcohol part, it will have calories, so if you'd rather do wine... The important part is to make it a special treat, and not a regular occurrence. Also, I make sure to cut back on my calories for the day to compensate.

    Struggling..

Your boyfriend possibly associates going out to eat with quality time, especially if this is something you frequently did together prior to this journey. A couple things: 1. Find something to replace this time with that is equal to when you would go out to eat. For example, eating dinner was a special time for me and my husband (still is, but we eat at home now) because we were one-on-one, facing each other, no distractions. We got a lot of quality time waiting at a restaurant for table, food, check, ect. But we found that we needed to replace that time with something different. Therefore, we cook together now. Well actually, he sits on the bar stool while I cook and visits with me. We get the same quality time, but its different and healthier. 2. He may actually be struggling with fears of change in general. I had a few friendships struggle for a bit because they felt that I was "slipping away". They weren't outwardly mad, because who could be mad at someone who is bettering their lives? But they were distant and treated me differently. It came out months later that they were uncomfortable and felt I was becoming a different person. It turns out they like the new me better. But your boyfriend could be acting out in a way because of fear that you will change too much. Reassure him that the way you feel about him will not change. 2. Don't get frustrated with him drinking your drinks. He could be doing this out of spite OR he could be trying to be healthier too. My husband went through this little phase as well. I remember one morning, I made English muffins w/peanut butter for breakfast. I had half of a muffin, and made him a full one, plus my other half. So he had 3 halves of an English muffin for breakfast. He snapped off on me and said "I can't eat that much!?". I was flabbergasted, and hurt because I make him breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday. Not to mention, I make him 4 PB&J's most days, and he eats that just fine! So I say , "How about being grateful, and just don't eat it and SAY THANK YOU". Turns out, weeks and weeks later, he made the comment that he feels bad when he eats so much compared to me. My point is, don't read into everything. Not everything is something. Good luck hun, I hope it gets better for you.

    Stomach Mating Call

Oh gosh yes, my stomach is so loud. I have a list of excuses to recycle because it's that bad. It does get better though. I find mine is the worst within the first 30-45 mins after a meal. Sometimes it will do it when I'm drinking though, and that's when its really annoying.

    Don't pray for me

I unfollowed this, but now I'm back with a thought. First off, this thread needs to retire... ya'll are beating a dead horse. Three things never to be discussed (say it out loud with me) 1. Religion 2. Politics 3. Money. Ultimately, it's a proverbial nicety. Do you think twice when people say "God Bless You" or even just "Bless you" after you sneeze. Because this is a religious phrase too, and I know atheists that say "bless you" because its a cultural norm/expectation. I think we've all heard every side of the argument, and I don't think any of the people who said "I'll pray for you" meant it to hurt you or to demoralize your beliefs. I do believe anyone who kept up with this thread will avoid this phrase from here on out. Over and out.
  6. I remember when I finally got to "soft foods" and at 12:01am I went to the 24/7 grocery store and bought a slice of meatloaf w/o the ketchup on top. When I got home, it felt like I had been in the desert without water for weeks. I was literally salivating. Mmmmm, that meatloaf saved me!

    Enough??

I did a lot of smooth soups with my Vitamix and added unflavored protein powder, if there wasn't a lot in it to begin with. I had Greek yogurt or kefir. I also ate refried beans and sprinkled cheese. You could try eggs different ways, because sometimes its about how you cook them. I did tuna w/mayo in my purred stage and chewed really well. I also had mashed potatoes with low sodium gravy and added unflavored protein powder. I sipped on bone broth for something savory. I drank FairLife Milk with sugar free chocolate syrup. You can always do the PB2 powder, instead of actual peanut butter. I put PB2 powder in my shakes and it is pretty yummy without the texture or heaviness on my pouch.

Ladies! I'll let you in on a little secret!

I think I enjoy it more. I'm more apt to try things on in store now, before, it was a hassle and I would just leave red faced, sweating, and disappointed.

    Pain on the left/ ache

I also had this, I even went to the ER one time because it was really sharp. They ran a bunch of tests. For me, they never got to the bottom of it. It was on my left side, right under my breast, wrapping around my side. The doc said it was probably from where they pulled the stomach out, which is the correct side, but the incision was a lot lower. Anyway, it went away after about 8 weeks. Save yourself the hassle and the mental headache, and don't worry about it. It's probably normal healing pains.

    Phases are confusing

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass. RNY is just a "nickname" of sorts.

    Phases are confusing

Nope, I had RNY. I hope that the heat wave breaks as well! We have heat index of 110 degrees yesterday. Doesn't matter how much you lose, 110 degrees sucks at any weight!

    Rank structure?

We all have those days! It's what makes us human. Glad you are down to earth and can admit when you were grumpy LOL.
  14. I have read COUNTLESS pre op diet posts about the difficulties and the cheating. So I pose the question...... Are people who had supervised diets ahead of surgery more successful AND have a less difficult time with pre op diets?

    Phases are confusing

Sleeve patients always have an extra week of liquids because their staple line is larger, and more of an area to heal.
  16. Your welcome. I'd recommend asking your doc about carbonation. If you read this article, carbonation is discouraged because most carbonated drinks have calories and the carbonation can cause excess gas. No-where does it say that it can stretch your pouch. https://www.livestrong.com/article/347882-carbonated-drinks-after-a-gastric-bypass/

Not Your Typical Pre Op Diet Post

Sounds like my husband. I still buy him his fruit snacks and ho-ho's. He still finishes a whole pizza to himself. And I nibble on a carrot in jealousy. But I know we are different people and I'm ok with it now.
  18. Here is a website with some good water infused fruit recipes. Looks yummy! I'm sure Pinterest has tons of ideas. https://dailyburn.com/life/recipes/fruit-infused-water-recipes/

When did hunger strike for you?

I have felt my hunger kick in more in the last two months, I'm 5 months post op tomorrow. It's not nearly as bad as pre op. And sometimes, I still think it's head hunger. The good thing is, that if I can't overcome it, I have a small snack and I'm good again in no time.

    Pizza!

I miss chips! I'll have to give this a shot, thanks!
  21. This is a very controversial topic amongst WLS doctors. My program doesn't forbid carbonation.

Not Your Typical Pre Op Diet Post

My poor best friend's husband does the same thing every time she goes on a diet. He more or less sabotages her, not saying your husband did that, but her's does.
