Weight Loss Family Reunion
TakingABreak replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey, I do have family in the Dallas (specifically, Garland) area. I don't get down there very often, but every 5-10 years. -
Can someone please enlighten me.
TakingABreak replied to damonlg's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes Matt just enlightened me. I thought it was pulled through because the incision was bigger there. The doctor had said something to me about it being more tender because that's where my stomach "was" (he probably meant, "was" as in, my working stomach is no longer there), and I just thought it was removed. The incision was larger though, maybe he needed more room to work, *shrugs*. -
I may have already responded to this once, but oh well! I recommend air freshener. That gas has to come out.

Yeah, I don't know how it would be reversible, considering they remove the remaining part of your stomach. I had a larger incision from them pulling it through. The concept that people think it could be reversible is very confusing to me. -
Plateau Advice needed!!!
TakingABreak replied to NicoleyAguayo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ya'll can give me a hard time or not for this suggestion. But I would try taking a break from working out. I'm not saying forever, but a few days...a week. See if it makes a difference. Sometimes switching up your routine can really aid a break through. -
Cheez its, my little snack
TakingABreak replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've never wanted him to change for this process. He shouldn't have to give up anything just because I have temptation issues. Of course, I cook healthier now, and I don't make separate meals by any means for him. But I will make him a baked potato or rice as a side. And I still make muffins and brownies on the weekends for him. I've done a good job learning that we are different, and he can eat whatever he wants, and I can't. -
The way I feel about it, I got rid of stuff because if I ever have to buy bigger clothes, it will be a reasonable punishment to have to rebuy larger clothing.

Cheez its, my little snack
TakingABreak replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My husband loves cheezeits, and I have to buy a couple boxes per week to pack in his lunch. I have not tempted myself with them, yet... I think i'll steer clear. With them being readily available in my pantry, could turn into a big temptation if I tried them, and suddenly couldn't resist. That's always my strategy... avoid, avoid, avoid. -
Magnesium deficiency can also cause restless leg syndrome, which involves leg cramping and discomfort. If you were taking magnesium, and then stopped, I'd resume to see if it helps. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/magnesium-deficiency-symptoms

Hidden/unexpected expenses
TakingABreak replied to RHCD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes my feet shrunk. I went down almost a full size. Some shoes I could still wear, but others were too big. Mostly had to do with my old shoes being stretched out from my previously fat feet. -

I did sales out of my house. I hung and tagged everything and advertised for 2 months on FB and got an outpouring of people interested. I literally, had 3 sale dates (open house style) and sold 90% of everything. I had 200 items easy. -
Happy happy birthday! Enjoy!

I was BCBS and it took approx 3 weeks.

Hidden/unexpected expenses
TakingABreak replied to RHCD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The expense is real. I’ve replaced 100% of everything at this point. I sold all my clothes and made close to $600 which helped a lot. But I had to get new shoes, clothes, and had to invest in shape wear to hold me together. And I’m not done yet! I got to the point where I had to though! I was wearing a 4X and I was a 1X when I started replacing items. Now, I’m getting in the boat where I’ll need to start getting even smaller stuff, but I’m holding off until I have to. Try and be thrifty and don’t buy a lot. I haven’t resized my rings yet, and I won’t until I get to goal. Also, try Bio Oil for your skin. It works wonders! It’s also very inexpensive for a skin care product. I swear by it. -

Loose jiggly skin -- what do I have to look "forward" to?
TakingABreak replied to Born in Missouri's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Oh no! Now I will have to tell her that her theory might be right . She will never let this go! -
@FishOn what GeminiSky said. Increase your potassium and drink lots of water. Both can cause muscle cramping.

As far as the CPAP is concerned. My doctor changed my pressure from a set number, to auto adjust. It made a huge difference. I had a set pressure of 12 until recently. He adjusted it to range from 6-12, and now I check it every morning and I'm usually sitting at a 6 or 7. Too much pressure can cause sleep issues as well.

how to lower a1c
TakingABreak replied to kathymae's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
its all about the carbs, not sugars. Its a common misconception that people think its all about sugars with diabetics. You have to manage your carbs, no more than 20 per meal. 10 per snack. Keep under 80 per day, and you should see a big difference. Creek gives some good suggestions too, about testing and what not. Hopefully with your A1C that high, you are taking an oral medication to help manage it. There are also weekly injections you can take that can help. If you haven't already seen an Endocrinologist, I'd highly recommend it. PCP's can sometimes do a good job, but they don't get into depth like an Endo does. -
Loose jiggly skin -- what do I have to look "forward" to?
TakingABreak replied to Born in Missouri's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Exactly! My mom would probably pay me to do it the other way around. She actually has this theory that the more skin cells you have, the more your body can refill with fat. She thinks by eliminating all my access skin, I'll prevent regain. She is literally convinced of this... -

Are they managing it with medication? How high is your A1C? I imagine pretty high if they are withholding surgery. I've seen people in the 12 range that had surgery. -

You could always do protein water instead of the shakes. They are less thick and the texture seems more manageable. I got off those things as soon as I possibly could. I do protein powder in a smoothie now, but nothing premade or straight shake. Yuck. -

I never knew I’d become an expert tucker. My breasts and belly...I’ve really gotten good at it. It’s a hassle but it will make due until I can have plastics. Baby first tho! -
Me too! My main motivation. I can’t wait to start trying.

@Moving Mountains. you look amazing! You are so close to goal as well, or are you happy at 190? I keep wondering if I'll end up happy at a different weight than I've set as my goal.
