    Kicking the TV habit?

Define forever. As a fast eater, forever might actually be only 15 minutes. The Baritastic App gives you a timer. Try using it and see what the actual time is.
  2. It does sound like you know that you went off the reservation. I think you learned that ice cream is a trigger food and you just might want to stay away from it altogether for a while. Just get back on the reservation as if nothing happened. For me, ice cream is pretty much a "no-no" due to it both being a trigger food and the potential for dumping syndrome.

    Finally Home!

I am having trouble sleeping as well and this is despite the gas. I hate to say this but you and I may just have to power through. I managed to find a semi-comfortable position but it still is not that great. Are you allowed to take Tylenol? It is not an NSAID and it does seem to help reduce inflammation some which in turn reduces pain.
  4. This morning the challenges are all mental. I woke up feeling down and I am also having a little bit of a "pain" set-back. The pain in that one large abdominal incision is a little worse today. It could be the way I slept though. Today the goals are the same: hydration, protein, more hydration. Hope y'all are doing okay.

Remember, stay fully hydrated. Walk a TON! Take your tylenol or whatevs! And breath deep. Watch funny stuff on the puter or the TV. Comedy therapy! You got this. It's the anesthesia wearing off. I had days like that--they came and went. :D ((hugs)) and hang in there! It's not you, it's the surgery. :D

This was massively reassuring to me...that the things I was experiencing were normal and that it wasn't my weird ass body/mind. :D So I hope you don't think I blow you off every time you have a feeling or experience! You are affirmed!

I don't think it is the morphine. You're just expelling the gasses used during surgery. It hasn't been an easy journey for me either. One of my incisions was really hurting up until today. Now it's dulled somewhat. Let's just keep moving forward. Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app

4.5 Months – Eating Too Much?

Okay, so you learned something valuable. Are you getting enough liquid in daily? From one of my past weight loss attempts, I remember the dietitian saying that the body sometimes uses hunger symptoms for both thirst and food. Try making certain that you're getting your 64oz of liquid in a day.
  11. This was something that I had forgotten to ask my surgeon. What are some indications that you might have a leak?

    Question for veterans

@FluffyChix Thanks! LOL! Translation: Don't worry my pretty little head about leaks. BWAHAHAHA!
  13. I think you will find that you've set a goal that you will breeze by. Also, there is no "typical" bariatric surgery patient. Each and every person is unique with unique circumstances that have brought them to the journey. I highly recommend that you watch this YouTube video. It will show just how much weight is a very individual problem The surgery changes more than just your stomach size. It causes biochemical changes that work a little differently for each and every person. The key thing is patience and perseverance. Follow the program religiously, track your intake, and exercise. Let things happen as they're happening. 16 pounds after 1 week is a lot when you consider the average weight loss through diet and exercise alone is only 1.5 - 2 pounds a week. So you just about blasted through that average! I am new to the weight loser's bench myself and the biochemical changes that I spoke of have already started happening. I began being aware of them when I began my first few walks around the hospital. My first walk was around dinner time on the floor so there were all kinds of smells. For the first time in my life, the smells were only pleasant and did not trigger a desire to eat. I was merely content to enjoy the smells and keep moving. I noticed that I had not only lost the feeling of hunger, but for once in my life, felt very neutral about food.

    Fart ripping

Oh they're in no danger. I just actually have to open my apartment windows for fresh air because the fart is so noxious and it lingers. Never had anything like this before.

    Vitamins?

The dietitian with my program recommended a really great chewable vitamin called OptiSource. It has a good texture and nice orange-citrusy taste. The nice thing is that it is easy. All you do is take 4 a day. I know that Walgreens sells them.
  16. Your patience and hard work getting to this point has been rewarded. Before you know it, you'll be on the loser's bench! :-D

4.5 Months – Eating Too Much?

I have no idea what's going on. Do you know whom I could talk to about getting this fixed?
  19. I was pleasantly surprised to be discharged early. My surgeon said I was doing really well so there was no need to keep me in the hospital. For the next 2 weeks or so, I am still going to take Metformin and Losartin (blood pressure.) I will only have Metformin taken away if I have either two consecutive readings under 70 or reduced if two lows happen in one week. My blood sugar readings are actually really good right now without Metformin but they want to see what happens once I introduce protein shakes and cream soups on Thursday. So far, so good - no nausea and the clear liquids are going down smoothly. Slow sips. They also gave me this funky breathing aparatus that I am supposed to use several times a day. It measures the volume of air that I am able to draw in - LOL! I am able to peg the indicator. Still, they want me doing it. Despite the small setback this morning of drinking a little too quickly, I feel tired but upbeat.

4.5 Months – Eating Too Much?

I asked my surgeon about stretching a pouch and she laughed. She said, "I left you with so little a stomach that there isn't anything to stretch." Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Before and After (So far)

If I were a betting man (and I am), I would say that you've kissed your old self good bye permanently. As long as you stick with the basics to your program, obesity should never again be a problem.

You sir, are inspirational! Keep going!!! I know a lot of us will be rooting for you!

    Always hungry

Are you getting enough protein? Protein and fat usually keeps people satiated longer.
  25. Mattymatt

    Protein

I will say this: protein is incredibly filling. I just tried my first protein shake, an 11 oz. Premiere Protein Vanilla, and I drank it over a period of about an hour. I am full to the brim. I was feeling good on clear liquids so I decided, even though it is a just a little bit early, to try some protein. Yeah, I be full .... I don't think I could get any more water down at the moment so it is a good thing I am at my water goal for the day. Tomorrow when I officially go on protein, I am going to have to be extra careful. I really don't want to puke. The next several months are going to be a learning experience.
