Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
bochs replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi to all tonight. I am one day out now and I have alot of heartburn tonight. So far today I have had a little unjury drink, broth, Jello, and ice chips, about 1/2 cup of each throughout the day. Thats about all I can do. I am not very comfortable at all. I have been doing laps around my house about four times today to try and get this gas out but so far nothing. I can't imagine how I will be able to eat again very easily after being on liquids for 10 days. I know one thing, I got to get rid of this heartburn or else. I know you have all experienced this but I am kind of down tonight. i just wanted to vent a little. Thanks all. Beckyo:angry: -

Hi to all, Well I did it!!!!. Didn't get home until 8pm last night. I feel a little rough today. Lots of gas and sore in my port area. I had ice chips all night and today so far ice chips and a little unjury drink but went real slow. I dont exactly feel like some of you girls did the day after as I am sore. Once this gas gets out of there I am sure I feel better. The doc says the surgery went perfectly and I did real well. I feel really full evenwith a 1/2 cup of unjury with water. Well thanks for all support as that really helps me. I am sure I will feel better soon. Beckyo:redface: -

Hi all, I am being banded tomorrow. My surgeon is using a 10 band on me. what is the difference in the band sizes and will it take longer for me to get restriction since my band is large. Would like to know Becko -
Hi , I am going to be banded tomorrow afternoon. I am curious about the difference in band sizes? My surgeon is using the 10 band on me. Does this mean that it will take me longer to get enough fills to get to my sweet spot or does the size of the band even matter and how do they go about choosing the size? Beckyo

I am on a five day fast right now, started Friday and this is Monday eve. and this is the first time I can honestly say that I am hungry, but I am really hungry tonight. Phyl you look great also. Everyone is doing good. I am a little scared but I know I will do fine. I do notice that on this five day fast I am a little bored though. I have been swimming and doing much gardening but eating is a habit. Thanks for all of everyones support. Beckyo -

Hi girls, thanks for all of your input. First of all, a little history: My name is Beckyo. I am 53 years old and have a 34 year old daughter, 23 year old daughter and twin boy and girl age 22. I have been a homeaker since my twins were born. I was always thin until I started staying home and I injured by back at a fit club six weeks after my 23 year old was born. the bad back is what started my weight gain journey as I have been limited and then just got lazy. I lost weight many times on weight watchers but gained it back. I know I can be good with the band and my food choices but it takes the weight loss to help me stay motivated. I have started with walking and will gradually build up to that but I am an avid gardener so that also helps me with exercise. I also have a pool which i will be using this summer. My height is 5'3", weight is 246. All of my blood work and tests say that I am in good health, I have a small hiatal hernia and cholesteral problems but surgeon says it should come down with weight loss. I have become very lazy since my weight has gotten this high but I am still trying to garden, etc. My surgery is next Wednesday, June 18. I start my fasting (all liquids for five days) tomorrow. Thanks everyone Beckyo -

Hi all, I went to see my surgeon yesterday and I start my fasting on Friday. I am so scared about this. I went and got a new scale today and some other things that I need to get by for a while. I hope I lose on this. My doctor told me that the band was a very good choice for me because my health is good but is not really a big fan of the band. He says the r and y is just as safe as the band. He told me that the band will do 20% of the work and I will have to do the rest. I'm like WOW you are kidding me. He said pretty much. I said then this means you aren't going to be too agressive with this at all are you. He did not answer. But then he says that the goal is to lose about 11/2 to 3 lbs a week. I said I would be thrilled with two a week on a steady basis. He said maybe, maybe not. Anyway I am having this surgery and I pray that it helps me lose weight because everyone in the city knows about me now and I don't want to be a failure. I am going to give it my very best shot and we will see. thanks for listening everyone as I am nervous about it. Beckyo:unsure::thumbs_up::frown: -

Hi all, Well I am going to Dr. on Tuesday, start fast on Friday and have Surgery next Wednesday. I sure hope I can do this. Some days I feel really good about it and other days I have trouble with the mindset. I have a question for Kareyquilts. I noticed you had several fills and then in March you went in for an unfill. Just wondering why? Also did your insurance pay for your plastic surgery? I am curious about that as I would like to do this also next year? Anyway, I am more nervous about the five day liquid fast than the surgery. did anyone else consider that part hard to do? Beckyo:rolleyes: -

Hi bandsters, Well I haven't been on for a while but I have been reading every day. I went and had all my pre ops this morning. Next Tuesday I see the surgeon and then I start a five day fast. Surgery is on June 18th. I am NERVOUS$*U)#))Q$_)Q. I try to read alot and I have gotten different proteins to try but I hope I can do this cause I do not want to fail. Food is not a problem for me if I am not hungry but if I am then look out. That is why I hope the band makes me not hungry. I need for all of you girls to write me and tell me this is allgoing to be okay and that I will do fine. I have ben reading that alot of people have second thoughts in the last few weeks and start believing they can do this on their own. I just need alot of encouragement right now as I am scared, not of the surgery but how I will be afterwords. Thanks girls Beckyo:scared2: -

I can't believe you girls that have only been banded a month can eat lettuce and various things. I am being banded on June 18th and am nervous. I hope I can eat that quick. I guess I just don't really know what to expect. I imagine the worst but for you new girls it sounds like it is going very well. Keep writing in so I can see this as I am really scared of the unknown. Beckyo:regular_smile: -

Thanks for the the good advice for this upcoming surgery and lifeplan everyone. I am going to look for various protein supplements, etc. and try them now to see which ones I like best. I got some unjury packets and I tried a chocolate one today except I put it in milk. It was pretty good!!!! Anyway I will keep checking back with everyone. thanks Beckyo:smile2: -

Hi everyone, I went to nutrition class tonight. Next on June 10 is preop tests and then June 18 is surgery. I am so nervous about this. I don't want to get sick and I just can't understand how you get back to eating a little food. I don't know why I am having so many questions in my mind but I am. I have to do a five day fast on liquids and I get shakey when I don't eat so I am nervous about that also. Indio and Phil, you girls know the most about this I think so I need some positive advice. I am scared to death!!!! What is wrong with me? I hope I have energy after surgery so I can start walking again. Email me at ox333@sbcglobal.net. I cant imagine what this is going to be like with the band. Am I going to be able to eat most things again, even in moderation. I will be a good judge of food choices. Well enough, I think I am just nervous, thanks for all of your positive replys Beckyo:wub: -

Hey you all!!! My doctors office called this morning and my surgery date is June 16, 2008. I did not expect it that quick. OMG I am nervous. They say they will send all of the paperwork in the mail to follow what I have to do so I should get that any day. Man this is going fast. Indio I am nervous. My husband finally made comment this morning. He said he likes me the way I am and that if I am doing this , I am doing this for myself, not him. I said for sure I am doing it for me. He says you like to stand at the stove and taste and now you won't be able to get past the stove because you will be full. He says I should try and do this on my own again. What the hell is wrong with him now?????? Yes I am scared but I think my health will be much better. The only thing I worry about is my bad back. I have a disc problem up high and down low so I hope this helps that. I have also been diagnosed with Osteoporsis so I hope this also helps. I can't seem to find an Osteo pill that agrees with me yet. they make me sick so I don't take them but I do take calcium. thanks for the information Indio. I need all of the info I can get at this point. Its only a few weeks away. I welcome anyones comments. thanks Indio. Beckyo:rolleyes2::thumbup::thumbup::biggrin2: -

Good luck to you Christy C. Well folks, I got my Insurance precert in the mail today. My surgeons office said he didn't get it so I faxed my copy to them. They will be calling me within the week to schedule a surgery date. They say somewhere between the end of June and 1st of July. Thanks Indio girl on the protein information. I am going to start looking for that stuff of the internet. Do you have a good web site to find it on? I'm nervous and happy all at once. Should I ask my doctor to have me stay all night???? Hi girls, Well here we go. My paperwork was sent to Insurance Company last week. I called today and my surgery has been approved!!!!! I am excited and scared at the same time. You guys need to tell me now what to start stocking up on and what kind of Protein powder, drinks, etc that I need to take so my hair won't fall out. What should I do now to start getting ready for this. The surgeon is booking about 4-6 weeks out so it wont be long. I will see a nutrionsnist about two weeks before surgery. Don't know what they will say except probably what you all say. I will find out this week when my surgery date is and it might be sooner than expected. Will I be able to eat at all. I hope I don't have to starve like some of you do. I have got Euphoria big time. Janet, you and I are the same age and I weigh 248. My goal weight is 140 but I am 5'3". I hope I can do this as fast as you have. Anyway I will be on alot now so we need to get names straight. You all can call me Beckyo since there are other Beckys on this thread. Can't wait to hear from anyone. I will start getting my protein stuff in as soon as someone tells me what is good. Beckyo:rolleyes2::party::rolleyes2::smile::rolleyes2: -

Hi girls, I haven't posted for a few days but I keep reading more and more of what everyone says. I had psych appointment last week and they say it takes about 7 to 10 days for approval and then I will get a surgery date. I am nervous about it but after reading tonight, I did'nt realize that I would be able to eat any of these foods any more. I thought it would be soups and I don't know what I thought. I just thought I would never be eating spaghetti, or potatoes or summer foods again as long as I live. Thanks for the encouragement. Becky:thumbup: -
Hi, I am going to have my surgery done in Peoria with the Bariatric Center at Peoria Surgical Group. don't know the Doctors yet but have gone thru everything else that I need to. Becky

Hi all, I am going to see Dr. Marshall. I went thru my psych evaluation last week and now waiting for Insurance approval. I am pretty sure I will get approved very soon. My question is what did this RN say about Dr. Rossi. I hope these Doctors are good. The Psych I went to, told me they are some of the best in Illinois for this type of surgery. I sure hope so. I have to travel to get all of this done and the future fills so I don;t know much about them but would very much like some input. Becky April 29, 2008

Thanks for the support. I just off the thread about people who are taking their band off. I think I am reading too much into all of this. My psych was very encouraging yesterday and made me feel real good about my choice and my surgeon. I love macroni salad, blt's with fresh tomatoes, fresh fruit, corn on the cob, hamburgers on the grill, etc. Thats some things that I think I will miss if I can't at least taste it. I also dearly love popcorn Thanks Girls Becky -

Hi, I am Becky and new to this thread. Just discovered it. I am 53 and had my psych appt yesterday. I am expecting to have surgery within the next month or two. You are the person who is inspiring me. Have you had a hard time at all with this? Right now I just kind of feel blah all the time. I know I will feel better when I get this weight off but it is kind of scary to think about not getting to eat like summertime foods, etc. I dont know why I am kind of scared. Anyway you had the same BMI as me except I would like to loose 100 lbs. Just thought I would say hi. I hope when I get some weight off, i quit feeling so tired. Becky (bochs) -
Hi Quincy girl, I have been going to Dr Hammers support groups even though I will be having my surgery in Peoria. Dr. Hammer is a wonderful Doctor and I would trust him with any surgery I had. He has pretty much done any surgery I had to have but I can't go to him because of my Insurance. I think the Doctors in Peoria are good also. At least I hope so. Well good luck to you. Bochs:drool:
