  1. I noticed my 2nd day, when I got home. Propel, vitamin water and powerade are way too sweet. Even when mixed 1 part to 9 parts water.. eww! Super sweet. Smells are very bad. Again super sweet. Before surgery I washed my bedding, my comforter, throw blankets and everything I could. I had to rewash everything in free and clear detergent and use dryer balls instead of fab soft. All of my air fresheners in my house had to be unplugged SW:350 BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:256 GW:175

    Question about Post-Op Pain

Besides being in the hospital for 2 full days, and getting torodol for pain those 2 days, I have only had to take 1 Narco since being home. The nausea was terrible. But it has become minimal. I have been sleeping in my recliner since getting home also. I am a live in nanny, so I stayed off the rest of last week but she is 3 1/2, so does not need me to do much for her except feed her! Next week I will start walking with her. Good luck! SW:350 BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:256 GW:175

    When will hunger go away?

I am really sorry to those who are feeling the actual hunger. I can not imagine feeling that way all the time. For me, the thinking is real. There is a lot going on around me, that normally a pint of ice cream and a spoon would help fix. I have been an over eater since I became a ternager, and it has gone up and down over the years. Psycolical hunger is a habit. Alcoholics, you do not give a drink to, drug users, you do not give them more drugs. Unfortunately we dont have a choice but to eat. And, for me at least, I would eat for everything. For happy, to celebrate, sad, anxious, my brain aways looks to food as a comfort. I am not sure it will ever go away, but at least I became aware of it. And truly I would fell like i am starving with about 800 calories a day, if it wasnt for the surgery. I hope ot gets easier for the ones who feel hungry all the time.

    When will hunger go away?

For me, the smell or sight of a certain food/foods makes me want to eat it. Not that I am hungry for it. Like someone else said, you cut your stomach, not your brain. When I am sad I still crave bad stuff. But there has only been 2 times I was actually hungry. You have to stop and really think about it. Our brains are programmed from old eating habits, and habits are hard to break. I usually have coffee with sf pumpkin creamer in my fridge. When I think I am hungry, I take a few sips, wait 5 minutes and see if it is still there. I am only a week out, but I am noticing some triggers, I started listening to my body and not my brain. Yellow Vommit

Not sure, but I was throwing up yellow and green when I was having gall bladder issues. I felt nauseas all the time and the only thing i could keep down was cereal bars. SW:350 BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:256 GW:175

    Protein belly issues

I have syntrax matrix. They have many flavors. At mybariatrcpantry.com they have sampler pack with each flavor. I ended up with perfect chocolate and peanut butter cookie. They are really great in the evening when I had a habit of snacking. I usually make half (4 oz) it gives me the sweet tooth satisfaction! SW:350 BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:256 GW:175

    Emotional crying already?

Thank you. I was wondering if my symptoms would get worse after. I had some regret the day after and was upset because I was so nauseas I couldnt go to full liquid until Saturday (my surgery was tuesday) food was always my escape and comfort. It is very hard. I want to eat, but I am not hungry. My mind needs to shut up. Old habits die hard. Good luck to you! SW:350 BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:256 GW:175
  8. One thing, pumpkin pie filling! (No crust) You maybe add a little milk and blend? That is going to be so hard for me! SW:350 BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:256 GW:175

    Favorite Broth?????

A friend made me bone broth, but she uses an entire chicken, not just the bones and she simmers it for hours on the stove top. Then she strains it, lets it cool in the fridge and scrapes off the fat SW:350 BSW:260 CW:256 GW:175

    Gutted

Anytime! I figured you were not in the US, welcome from the UK. I know that its hard to see when you are big. I was 350 lbs,2 years ago next month. I lost 90 lbs myself in the process. I was very discouraged because my clothes really did not feel looser until about 6 months ago. I think it is hard with any weight loss. I hope you have a wonderful support system. I have been back and forth with so many diets, I knew this was my only option. I am not good at maintaining a weight. It us never an easy journey. Good luck to you. I wish you all the best and that your new surgery date is soon!

    Gutted

I am so sorry to hear this[emoji53] that is very frustrating and imho that is unprofessional practices. You are working hard and you should not have to wait again. I do not understand the jelly/milk diet? Are you in the US? My weight management center does have surgical suites, but my dr does it in the hospital so his patients have the best care afterwards. I did have my egd done in the surgical suites at the weight management center. I understand you frustration with the waiting. I went in November last year for my consultation. They told me that my insurance would require me to lose at least 5 lbs and take 6 nutrition classes with 4 weeks in between each one. I had everything done by late Feb/ early March. They told me I had to bring my cpap with me and I said I havent been using it, because it seemed to strong. They said it was too old and they couldnt download the information from it or change it. So I had to go to neurology, and they ordered a home test. It did not give them results to conclude I no longer had sleep apnea. Then I had to go for a sleep study. 2 month wait for neurology, and a 4 month wait for the sleep study. Thankfully I no longer have it! I am now my 7th day post op. It has been a long, hard and frustrating road for me, so I can not even begin to know how you feel. You are not destined to die of obesity. Keep your head up and keep trudging along! My insurance company required me to lose 5 lb and I lost 25! Strive for better days ahead! Praying for you and hoping things get better. If you have any questions or even just to vent, lmk! I am happy to try to help!
  12. I have to admit, that even though a few people have said they envy me and how far I have come, they have NEVER EVER cut me down. Most are church family, but also family and friends. I have some family members who never have a nice thing to say, so I just disregard them. They are uplifting and tell me I am doing a great job and to keep up the good work. Tell me how good I look, and how proud they are of me. It IS nice to hear those compliments, but do not let the haters bring you down. I do admit, my friend who had the gastric sleeve surgery 4 years ago, did look a little too skinny. I do think it was only because I had never seen her that skinny! I was a tad jealous, not going to lie, although I didnt know her before the sleeve, only saw pictures, but when I met her, she was steadily losing. 4 years and she had maintained at 155. I have heard a lot of people say a lot of negative things. Usually it is their own insecurities that they are trying to hide. To me she is a true inspiration. I may never be 155 lbs. and I am ok with that! I havent been under 200 since 1999/2000. So I would be happy at 199! You are going to do a great job! Keep your head up! Ladies, let the haters hate, as they are leaving someone else alone! Congratulations and great job! You all are a HUGE inspiration to me!

    I'm a mess.

I have to admit, yesterday I felt very discouraged. It was day 6. I have an efficiency apartment attached to my cousins house. We got a stove, but the wall outlet needs to be updated. I was walking over to their kitchen to do everything. Thankfully I borrowed a ninja, which is a god send. But, taking a pot of soup (5 c saucepan) over, heating it up, bringing it back over, pureeing it, straining it, measuring it, and then to do it all over again. Alot if work, a lot of time, alot of dishes (btw, I hate doing dishes) i usually do enough for 2 meals, but have to go back over to reheat the 2nd. (I know some are saying microwave. I can not. Home made bone broth should never be warmed in a microwave, certain minerals can render it toxic, and I want no additional issues) i bought a 2 burner hotplate, but it came in broken. Target is refunding my money, but they have no more in stock (online only item, it is not carried in their stores) so they do not want this one back. So yesterday I got out the superglue and pieced it back together. Yay! So that is less work! Hoping it lasts until the stove is fixed! It is extremely hard to keep away from triggers, or to find healthy solutions for them that are satisfying. This is a life changer, and it is very easy to slip right back into old habits. I used to eat for every single emotion. Happy, sad, mad and even content. One thing I always crave/want is ice cream. I made a frozen frappe, 12 oz cold coffee, 3 c ice, 1/4 c skim milk, 4 T sf pumpkin creamer, blend and enjoy! It does make 2 servings, so I usually do it at night and have 1 serving and the melted one the following morning before breakfast! It fills that void. It takes time to figure that all out. Give yourself a break. We are all human and we are creatures of habit. Hang in there, you are doing great!
  14. The sipping in super hard. I am on my 7th day out. Also nothing cold. If I forget to warm it in my mouth before swallowing, it hurts. But I love ice cold! Besides the warming in my mouth, I noticed I really have to take my time, even eating yogurt. I thought about using a baby spoon. I have always been a guzzler for drinking, and a shoveler for eating. I have to be very careful and very vigilant on my drinking and eating, and try to slow down .

Thank you. I did call, I have to check it again in a few minutes. If it is still 55 or lower, They advised me to go to the er. I did yogurt as soon as it was 55. I just dont want to stall weight-loss because if carbs(I have pcos and my body stores carbs and sugar)
  16. I had my surgery on Tuesday, 10/17. I am on full liquids until Friday. How do I watch my carbs, get enough protein and get enough liquids? I am trying do hard but my sugar is not cooperating. I am at my carb limit for the day (i guessed, I think 75). My sugar is 55. I know they had to give me dextrose in the hospital 5 different times. How can I get my sugar up without carbs? I was diabetic before the surgery. Also, memory loss. And the headaches (I think are from my sugar being low) Any advice? Tia

    Hello everyone!

I had surgery Tuesday (10/17) It has been a long road. Started this journey in 2015, but I needed life changes to do so. I needed to move, so I would be around family that was more supportive and who were willing to help me out. I had been considering the surgery since 2014. My neck surgeon told me there was no way for me to lose it fast enough on my own, and requested I think of gastric surgery. In 2015, my weight was out if control and when I hit 350 lbs. I had enough. I started slowly eating somewhat healthier, getting more active, and cutting down portions. I moved in April 2016. New city, new area, new changes. It took until August 2016 to get my insurance straightened out. I went to the seminar about it, and I decided on the sleeve. November 2016 I had my initial consultation. Went through nutrition classes mandated by my insurance company. Problems with insurance and other things, including needing a sleep study to see if I still had sleep apnea. When I started nutrition classes, I had lost 50 lbs. my insurance required I lose 5 lbs before surgery, I lost 25. I knew I needed to change my life, and I knew I had to change my eating habits. I was down 90 lbs by surgery on 10/17. Here I am, my 4th day out! Still on clear liquids because of nausea. I thought I would never make it through the liquid 10 day prior to surgery diet. But, I did it. I bought a sample pack of matrix shakes, had 1 pk for every flavor. I liked the perfect chocolate and peanut butter cookie my favorite. Together, is amazing! I used them before bed, as I was a night time snacker! Stocked up on things I really liked! (Progresso soups were a great go to!) Tomorrow I am starting full liquids. I am excited and nervous about it. This has been a life changer! I am very fortunate to have a really great and helpful support system, including 2 that have had gastric surgery! My family and friends are helpful and supportive! Below, 350 (in purple, front) and before surgery at 260! SW:350 CW:260 GW:175 What a difference! Thank you all for your help on this journey!

    I am a mess!!!

I now find everything sickening sweet. I have a 24 oz cup i use and i add orange, lemon and lime slices. Broth is helpful. Sugar free jello, ice pops, drinks, I can not deal with. I bought a ice pop container at Walmart for $0.50 on clearance. Make 6 small pops, this way i can use water infused with citrus or watered down sf drinks. They help! (Hint, let the tray sit out for 5 or so minutes before trying to get the ice pop out!)

    Liquid Diet Ideas

If you have a ninja, My favorite thing was Progresso tomato basil soup! Strained, of course! Warm filling. Be careful with canned soups if you are watching sodium. Matrix perfect chocolate shakes were great! I had to do 10 days before surgery.

    Beginner looking for a buddy

I had the surgery Tuesday. My number one, be patient. I got out of surgery and in my room by 3 pm. I was nauseas, but that is always when I have anesthesia. I was walking the hall by 6 pm. Wednesday morning i felt horrible. I was refusing oral meds because if being so nauseas. My pain med was one of them. Come to realize the pain is what was making me sick. Pain controlled was the difference! Today I feel great! Able to do little things, minimal pain. Also push yourself, but not too far. Baby steps! Good luck!
