Medication and Slow Weight Loss
kandywolf replied to EagerPenguin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I do not know what meds you are on. I know for me, they had to take out the extended release ones. The Welbutrin XR 450. I had been on 4 years. It was wonderful. They had to take it away and give me regular Welbutrin. Not as effective and am up to 400 mg. I also take seroquel. This drug they say makes you gain weight. I have not had that issue. But maybe because mine is used for sleep? So when I am well rested and have energy, I am being active. Talk to your doctor. I know i do not do well on SSRIs, and they are known for weight gain. If you would like to pm me what you take I would be willing to do some research for you. Good Luck! SW 350 (11/15) BSW 260 (10/17/17) CW 228 (12/29/17) RGW 199 GW 175 -
Starting to think about clothes
kandywolf replied to greenreader's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I bought 4 pair of leggings that can fit size 16/18-24/26. They are a blessing! I finally got boots that are up to my knee (first time since my early 20s) Jeans now mostly jeggings, because again you could get 4 sizes out of them! Jeans are sad because I am going through sizes like crazy! Thankfully I thought to keep all of my plus size jeans. My weight loss center has a clothing closet. I take stuff in as I grow out and take smaller as I need. It is all free and by donation. I have done consignment for some, because some I didnt even wear! What they would not consign I donate to the clothing closet. The consignment shop is great because as said, get money from old to but new. Win win! Anyone not need plastic surgery?
kandywolf replied to TexasMommy80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think age has a ton to do with it. At least for me. When I was 30 I went on SBD and lost 110 lbs. I had a little sag, but not much, except my boob area. But they are the first thing to go! This time I started I did weigh 40 lbs more than when I started SBD. I started 2 years ago, so around age 42. Start was 350. The day of surgery I was 260. (10/17/17) at that point I already had alot of belly sag. Especially in the summer with sweating. I will definitely need skin surgery and it will be medically necessary. I do exercise, but I dont “target” exercise like I should. My boobs this time were a 44J and now down to 40i, but most is skin, not actual boob! I think it depends on your skin also. I am a pale white girl, and my skin seems “thin” and doesn’t seem resilient enough. If it is not medically necessary, I will look into tummy control bottoms because my waist down (beside my chicken wing arms) is the biggest issue! Split decision - My mother in law had vsg 12/14/17 and passed away 12/21/17. I don’t know if I should cancel my own surgery!

I am so very sorry for your loss. It is probably very hard, considering you both were on the same path. I can not imagine your grief and heartache for you and your husband. I agree with the others. Table it for now. The next month or so is going to be rough, but I think it is a great idea to go into see the surgeon to get answers. Do some research when you have time, to make sure you take care of yourself correctly after surgery. Again I am so very sorry for you and your husbands loss. You are both in my prayers. Good luck! I posted almost the same thing on another thread. I did a lot if research on this very subject. My hair was already thinning and it scared me. I have noticed that they recommend at least 70g of protein a day. Biotin 10,000 and make sure you are getting your b vitamins. I was sleeved 10/17 and it hasnt been an issue yet. Ya never know though, that may change SW 350 (11/15) BSW 260 (10/17/17) CW 228 (12/29/17) RGW 199 GW 175

Shallowness [emoji53] I love my locs! #Hairloss
kandywolf replied to genia_deanne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I do not have locs. I have had thin hair for quite awhile. I did alot of research and b Vitamins, Biotin and Protein. At least 70g of protein a day. I have not had any extra hair loss. And 10,000 Biotin. Vitamin E and coconut oil are good to help. Please be careful with them though. They may clog hair follicles and give you more issues. My ends seem to be ragged, so I use a touch of coconut oil on the ends, to calm them down. 1st Thursday. 2nd was end of August pre surgery, 3rd was 11/11/17, 1 month after surgery. Surgery date was 10/17/17 -

Got a date... Chickened out!
kandywolf replied to JeezLouise91's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have to agree about the age. I had mine done on 10/17. The excess flab, is a huge issue. I wish I would have done it earlier in life, because when I was young and lost 100 lbs, my skin didnt sag really at all. Now it is a huge issue it doesnt want to go back where it belongs. Also I didnt do it until I was diabetic. I already had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and many other things. My Neurologist told me I would never be able to lose it fast enough, and suggested gastric surgery. I thought long and researched. I talked to close personal friends who have had it done and what it was like. I also have pcos and the hormones make a mess of your metabolism. I understand the getting cold feet when it gets close. I kept telling myself you need to do this.. not for me, but for my family who has bern my biggest cheerleaders, the best support system I could have ever dreamed of having! I also have a counselor. She is there to listen when I vent or give her opinion on whenI ask her something. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes outside the box is helpful. Good lucky. It is scary, but I do not regret it at all! Hi Donia! Welcome! You are very smart coming here before your surgery. I wish I would have thought about looking for this after surgery! A lot of very good posts and advice!! Good luck on this journey! SW:350 (11/2015) BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:248 (1st official weigh in post op) GW:175

Remember on the day after surgery, it might be rough. That was the one thing I didnt listen to a friend that is 4 years out! The first night I felt wonderful.. walking and was pain free. The next morning I felt horrible! Nausea, pain, couldnt pee. I couldnt lay, couldnt sit. And also be patient, it gets better! Feeling exhausted and discouraged
kandywolf replied to eyhornmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I feel discouraged alot. Like today I was upset because I had my first follow up. My weight is only down 12 lb. (sleeved 10/17) the top of my stomach is swollen and I feel like I look worse now, since the surgery. My surgeon said that my stomach is normal and it may be like that for up to 6 months. It takes longer to heal inside compared to the surface and to be patient. My second day out of surgery I was crying and asking why did I go through with the surgery? I was so nauseas, my blood sugar was all over the place, and I felt horrible. Once I figured out I have a high pain tolerance and the Surgeon put me back on Torodol, that helped alot! For me, being nauseas, is hell! I had my thyroid removed a year ago, and I could not stop throwing up. After 3 different meds it was better. I remember how much my incision hurt from throwing up, I can not imagine with 6 incisions! Are you on medication for your issues? Do you go to a counselor or therapist? I have anxiety, depression and I am Bi-polar (manic depressive disorder). I am medicated and see a counselor every 2 weeks. That is my key. Therapy. Someone who sees outside my box of life and is a clean set of eyes to help me with things I may not even be aware that I am doing. She is blunt and does give her opinion when I ask for it. Otherwise it is a way to vent without hurting family and friends. It truly is my saving grace. Also if you are a believer, turn to the Lord. He has my faith to help me through the really terrible times. I hope things get easier. Please try not to feel discouraged. I know that is sooooo much easier said than done. But when your mind tells you to eat things that you are not supposed to, stop and think about it. Do I really NEED that or is it a WANT. If we give into our wants, we wont get what we need. Keep the faith. You can private message also if you need someone to talk to. Good luck and God bless! It took me a long time to notice the difference. I went on a diet before surgery and when I lost about 80 lbs. then I started to see, especially in my face. Alot of my old clothes fit, but i use them for around the house or to bed. The before pics are a definite! I was just sleeved on 10/17. Good luck to you SW:350 (11/2015) BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:250 (officially down by 100 lbs. since the start of my journey!) GW:175

Ever hear if you dont have anything nice to say, then dont speak. Do you give an alcoholic another drink? You you give a drug user more drugs? No! for us we dont have a choice but to eat food. I have never had a food addiction. I am an emotional eater and I am in counseling AND see a psych dr. Just because people have head hunger doesnt mean they have an addiction to food. Everyone has different triggers. And the line about needing therapy or whatever, maybe you should take a class on tact and respect. We are here to help each other up and not kick them when they are down. SW:350 (11/2015) BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:250 (officially down by 100 lbs. since the start of my journey!) GW:175

I would definitely ask if it is because of you going to mexico. Here you have a full cardiologist check, another dr (besides your pcp), i had to go for a sleep study to prove I no longer have sleep apnea, a mental heath eval, see the surgeon and the Nutritionist. Only after that could they submit it to the insurance. Lots of appointments. That may be her concern. In order for me to qualify, I need to keep going to my psych and counselor. I would talk to her. In the end it is your decision. Good luck SW:350 (11/2015) BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:250 (officially down by 100 lbs. since the start of my journey!) GW:175

I love my sleeve because..?
kandywolf replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Things I love about my sleeve (10/17) - have not had to take any of my medication for diabetes. - my blood pressure was so low yesterday, they told me to stop taking the high bp med and introduce again in a few days and see if it goes down again. - my night time snacking has come to a halt. That was my biggest issue before surgery. - feeling of being full instead of a bottomless pit - knowing at some point I will be under 200 is super exciting! - if I eat too much sugar, even natural sugar, my body says nope! It will be ok! I felt anxious when I started the liquid diet 10 days before (sleeved 10/17) the journey is not an easy one. But the day of surgery, I had no anxiety at all. I think partially because it was an elected surgery. I didnt have to have it, I chose to. Keep your head up, better days are ahead. I always say in order for there to be a rainbow, we need some rain. The storms will pass. Good Luck and God Bless! SW:350 (11/2015) BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:250 (officially down by 100 lbs. since the start of my journey!) GW:175

What was your first CHRISTMAS after WLS like?
kandywolf replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I guess I didnt realize people would not realize I meant there is a sugar free variety, (that I make every year. I have a lot of diabetics in my family) sugar free, but not dairy free (it doesnt bake correctly if you try dairy free) this is the one I have used forever. Tastes almost exactly to my regular pumpkin pie, which is always a hit! I do not do the whipped cream. I use fat free evaporated milk, And I use 2 t. Pumpkin pie spice instead of the spices listed. I will be lucky to have a half teaspoon of it, but that is the only craving I have at holidays, because it was something my Mom truly loved! I swear I am the only person that made it for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. SW:350 BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:256 GW:175 -
Hoping to get off these meds
kandywolf replied to Mattymatt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How long have you been diabetic? I only take pill forms of insulin, so I can not even imagine! That was the final straw, diabetic. They are hopeful I will not need medication again. I have had high blood pressure since I am 30 (44 yo now). if my triglycerides got better, I would be thrilled. I take a whole regimen of meds also. Definitely making the pharm companies big bucks! I was also sleeved the 17th. I start pureed tomorrow. (I am a little behind because I was on clear for 3 days) My instructions say 1/2 c or 4 oz per meal. I hope that helps. My booklet has sample menus and lists of foods. Plmk if you would like me to post them. SW:350 BSW:260 (10/17/17) CW:256 GW:175

Same here about heightened sense of smell! We were in the car and I said I smell skunk (we had the windows down) my cousin said I dont smell anything. It took about a minute until she did, at that point my face was in my shirt holding my nose and breathing through my mouth. I thought For sure I was going to throw up!
