Thank you for your encouragement! You're starting weight is about where I started as well. Your post made me feel so much better because you're about the same height as i am! You're really inspiring.!

    Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017

Personally, I would do it after the holidays simply because the stress is not there. However, others would argue to say it'll be hard sitting through watching your family eat food as you cant have that stuff. Either way you wont be able to have what they're having. My surgery is on 12/28 and right now I feel like i'll be fine with not eating during family get together because of the support from my family. But personally I think after the holidays is the best option so you can relax without a worry.

    Surgery date coming 12/28

My surgery is on 12/28/17 as well! Started the pre-op diet today! I didn't bother with a food scale because i feel like it would stress me out more then it would help me. My dietitian and surgeon said they wanted me to consume a maximum of 1000 calories a day. So far today I've had Breakfast: Protein Shake No morning snack ( but if i needed one I have a low fat yogurt plain) Lunch: Sugar free jello pudding, and a yogurt / cottage cheese depending on what i want. Afternoon snack: Protein Shake to get me to dinner Dinner: 1 half cup of chicken broth with sugar free jello and a sugar free Popsicle I love the app my fitness pal and it tracks the calories you've consumed for the day! I've been using it for years!

    Just starting the process

I think overall it depends on your weight / willingness to follow through with it long term. I'm doing the sleeve because it's a tool to help me with portion control, which is one of my biggest problems. With that being dealt with, I have no problem going to the gym and eating healthy. I decided against the band because i just don't have the time to continuously go back in and get it adjusted. I also feel like the sleeve will benefit me because i do weigh more and it helps lose a little bit more weight then the band. My aunt had the band done and she looks absolutely phenomenal! So both are a really good choice!
  8. Hi, I'm new to this site and i'm not sure where to start. I have my last dietitian appointment on Nov 13th, then I schedule the meet with the surgeon after. I still haven't completely chose which procedure I want done. It's been between the roux en y and VSG. I'll give you some details on myself before I ask for opinions so you know the situation. I'm 23 turning 24, I am 5'8'' and currently 297 lbs. The doctor says I have about 140-150 lbs to lose. I am currently going to the gym 5 days a week and walking 2 miles with my coworker at work during lunch/breaks. My mom is worried about either one, and i'm curious as to what surgery will benefit and help me most. Opinions are appreciated! Thank you!
