Yay, persistance pays off. I know you must be so excited. Thanks for the encouragement while I am getting through this first week. I have lost about 14 pounds but I am sure some of this had a lot to do with the vomiting issue. Stay in touch with this forum and they will walk you through any problems. Get those one ounce cups they truly keep you in touch with your limits. I thought the sipping cups would do it but it's much more apparent what your intaking by just using those small plastic one oz. cups, easier for you to limit over drinking and watch the every fifteen minutes. I now pour everything into that cup and turn on the fifteen minute timer, has made a world of difference. Got some diarehha issues right now, but working on it! I am happy with my decision even though a couple of setbacks, love the feeling I am getting help with controlling my weight. Vickie

:kiss Thanks PhotoNut You did indeed tell me I'd be okay. That gave me just the feeling I needed for that day, and lots of other support thereafter. I was so grateful you were there immediately, just at the moment I needed some push. Wanted to let you know personally.

After a total night in the emergency, I am home once again and doing much better. I am so glad I took your advice and went into the emergency. It appears that I was having some kind of reaction to the pain medication I was taking, also my intestines and body works were shutting down. They were wonderful at this new hospital and took a lot of time and effort on my behalf. This was Rex hospital in Raleigh. I was very dissapointed in the hospital in Louisburg. Very old, very ill informed. When the emergency doctor tried to get some kind of records on my recent surgery they couldn't find any of my records. So he called the doctor on call and he couldn't give him real specifics because he hadn't performed my surgery. I took all of your suggestions and they all helped me so much. I wouldn't have gone to the hospital if I hadn't got so much support to go. So thank you. It appeared my blood pressure was quite high from what I normally am so it was important I get there. The emergency doctor gave me a new tolerable pain medication and some nausea medication. It has been heaven sent. I am back to keeping a few sips of water and juice down, plus the bloating has let up. It's strange they gave me some flattend coke with the barium I had to swallow. When they first said I would have to drink down 3 glasses of barium I told them there is no way my stomach is going to let me do that. I can't take the IV solutions for Cat Scans etc., I am allergic. But they let me take my time and it actually tasted so good to me that I was enjoying it. Strange things can happen. Anyways, I was able to get the stuff down and the scans showed no infection or inflamation. They said I was just unable to get my intestinal issues working properly. Whatever they gave me did the trick and I am able to keep the plumbing working properly. I actually kept some juice down today, but I have made sure I stick to the one ounce cups and only when I know I can keep it down. Big improvement! I think I was trying to hard to get back to normal and over drank. The nausea was terrible, but I feel so much better now. Still working on the pain in my neck from the anesthesia. I find if I take the medication that relaxes my muscles it makes such a difference. So watch the pain medication they give you. I am actually thinking about creamy foods, which I hadn't any desire to try anything the last couple of days. I have my meeting with the doctor on Wednesday. I was a little disappointed he didn't call me back. I did hear from his nurse today and she apologized they didn't get back to me, but that kind of hurt my feelings after all I went through yesterday. Thank heavens for all of your in put. My husband says sometimes I just get too stubborn and need to admit that I can't always handle some things. Just wanted to let you know I have slept pleasantly today and the vomiting seems to have let up. My family has been wonderful through all of this so cudo's for my husband and sons. Thanks again, Vickie:)

Photo Nut Tell me I will be okay, I'm so miserable. I don't want to get this out to any new bandsters, too scary for them

I am so nauseated today, totally miserable. I can't even seem to keep my sips of water down. My pain medication only seems to make things worse, because I am throwing it up as well. Since things are only in liquid form I don't throw up like if I ate regular food, but I feel so sick at my stomach. Now the pain in the shoulder and neck are aleviating and most recent troubles are with the stomach. If I could just throw it all up it clears the stomach but then within a short amount of time I'm back to the bloating and nausea. Gas X isn't working. :think

Hello Everyone, it appears their are going to be some slick over fifties chicks with all this lapbanding! Thank you so much for the support. I am taking all the suggestions, heating pad, walking, moving, etc. It's been most helpful. All in all, considering now it's my third day since lap band, the surgery seems to be quickly recovering. I have stuck to liquids, jello and broth. The hot liquids seem to go better in my stomach. I've backed off the popsicles a bit. I haven't felt hungry, but the smell of food brings back old memories. My husband keeps trying to convince me that the jello is a pizza…yeah right! I can't stand the taste of the pain medicine, but I find if I take it on a regular basis I prevent myself from less gas and pain, so I sip it down with a sip of water. It makes me so sleepy I want to get off of it as soon as I can. Lots of us are being banded around the same time and this is exciting for me since we can share in a lot of the same experiences. I can't try mushies until next week, but come to think about it I think I can just have my protein drinks. I haven't been eating very much, but it sounds like I should be trying to get down a few more things than I have. I eat an ounce or two of jello or broth about two or three times a day. I don't feel hungry so I guess that's okay? Feel sooooo much better today, looking forward to the upcoming weeks. I do get a little heartburn, nothing terrible, shoulder pain is getting better. Luv ya'll and us ladies in purple will persevere! Vickie in North Carolina

Hello Everyone, Just thought I would let you know I finally have a surgery date for May 9. Wasn't given much notice, paper work again but at least the day is finally here. I've been reading things about foods to eat afterwards, etc. Is there anything specifically that you would advise I know or do before the surgery to be better prepared? Thanks for all your encouragement. Remember me in your prayers. Thanks, Soon to be a bandster Vickie

I'm home and the most pain I feel is in my neck and shoulder. Been using Ben Gay strips and heat and cold pads. Helps some what. Wasn't prepared for pain in shoulder and neck. Not much problem with the abdominal area, very little pain, even though I had hernia repair also. Better to walk and sit up as much as possible. Strictly on liquids, jello, water, crystal light, popsicles. Popsicles are my lifesaver. I like using the water bottles with sipping top, helps me sip on the water all day. Not too bad of nausea, just a little when I have eaten something too fast. Can't wait to get rid of the pain in my neck. I would suggest to have a slanted orthopedic pillow to sleep on as well as a neck pillow, something I didn't think of but I am very happy with them now. Pain medication tastes the pits, but it does it's job, however makes me very sleepy. Trying to do without it until night time. I found if I sip it slowly with a sip of water I can get it down easier. Where's the cherry flavor when you need it? Got to lay down. Alls well!:cry

Thank you this pain has brought me to some tears, at least now I know that this is part of the surgery. What causes the pain, do you know?

Just got banded and this is my second day of recovery. Not too bad! I am having pain in my neck and shoulder. A place I never thought I would feel pain, I thought more would come from the abdominal but the pain in my shoulder and neck are worse. I've been sleeping propped up and that has helped, might be something you will want to add on your list is to get a slanted othopedic pillow. This really does help because pillows give to much. Also used Ben Gay joint and pain strips. This has helped to relieve some of the pain. I also have one of those neck pillows that vibrates, big help especially when you need some sleep. I am up walking slowly but surely, no problem with the walking. It helps to walk and helps rid you of gas. My head neck and throat area still hurts but seems to be a little better. Any suggestions? My husband has been trying to massage my shoulder. I think I will get one of those hand vibrators. Like I said the Ben Gay patches have helped me to sleep. I am strictly on popsicles, water, and occasional jello. I found that the water bottles with the sip tops work the best to keep sipping on water. Had a little trouble with keeping some of the jello and popsicle down but not much. I probably ate them too fast. Thanks heavens for the sugar free popsicles. Not really hungry yet, just want the shoulder pain to leave. The more I sit up and walk the more it seems to help. When do you think this shoulder and neck pain will let up? Vickie

I just returned home yesterday. I have been having quite a bit of pain in my neck and left shoulder, not sure what that's from. My son got me some of those Ben gay pads and a heating pad it's been helping some. I move slow but I am making myself get up and down to walk a little. I am pretty much living on jello and popsicles. I have kept most of it down but struggled a couple of times. It's hard getting my liquid medicine down but it sure helps with some of the pain. I don't feel the pain so much from the surgery as I do from the pain in my shoulder and neck. I've tried lots of pillows, but my husband is going to get me one of those slanted type of foam pillows to see if that helps. I couldn't sleep in the bed last night and found it better if I slept on the lounger chair. It helped me so much more. Considering this has only been my second day since surgery I feel I am doing fairly well. Have any of you guys dealt with the should and neck pain thing? It's pretty bad. I am officially banded now. I am trying to get liquids down me, I keep trying to sip but it's not easy getting all the ounces they want you to get in. Anyone got any suggestions? Does popsicles count as water in take, because I seem to handle the sugar free popsicles better than anything els. I am surprised I am able to move around as much as I can, especially since I had the hernia operated on as well. Dr. Enoch's says that he didn't have to do as much repair as he originally thought he would be doing on the hernia. He stictched it up and wrapped it, then banded me. I havent felt hungry which is a blessing, but I probably need to be taking in more. I kind have just been going with what my body feels like handling. Does that sound normal? Hopefully in a week or so I will have a lot of this shoulder and neck pain over with. I am trying to sit up more than lay down. Thanks all of you, got to rest. Vickie

Those questions are exactly what I've been asking myself. I hope its just a momentary melt down. I seem to be doing better this morning, but I still feel different. I will check out the threads you recommended. Thanks Vickie

Help seem to be going through some type of anxiety attack, not normal for me. Very emotional and shaky. Feel almost physically ill but I am not. Needed food! Here it's been over a year waiting now the time is here and I became an emotional wreck today and didn't know why I was crying. Can't explain what's going on with me.

After completing all the different tests and exams, which means many trips to different specialists, it now appears the paper work is in process. I got a call from my doctors office yesterday to say that I just had to clarify if my insurance requires a previous 6 month set diet that I have followed before their approval. I have been on nothing but diet plans it seems like forever. But, good news, no previous set diet plan but a BMI of 40 or over. I qualify, but of course! Now my doctor can submit the papers for approval with the insurance company. They hope to set me up a surgery date soon. Oh, after almost a year of wait (two different doctors) it's hard to get excited until they call with a definite date. And so the process begins. I have been reading and listening to the advice of other lapband patients and that has been very helpful. Wish me luck and I could take a few prayers as well. Vickie

vericks Registered User Join Date: Jan 2006 Age: 55 Posts: 27 Help again please Okay I need help! Today I met with my doctor to sign all the papers etc. I did just fine, no worries! All of a sudden about 5:00 my emotions seem to get the best of me. I became agitated and couldn't understand why, nothing had happened to get me upset. A couple of hours later, my husband and I went out and I started getting severe shaking and started crying at the movie theater, it was not a sad movie or mushy. It was a espionage type movie. I began to feel faint and tense. It was like I lost control of myself. I've also been having a reoccurring nightmare the last couple of nights (I rarely have nightmares especially reocurring ones). It's like all of a sudden I am having a panic attack. I don't usually react this way. I started getting stomach pains. What is going on? Did anyone else experience these type of things? What can I do? Help Vickie
