Go you!!! -
Everyone that I know , including myself, had to do 6 months per insurance. I'm not sure about exactly 180 days, mine was longer after all the other appointments anyway.

I've been practicing chewing popsicles [emoji12].

I am 15 days post-op. I am having a hard time judging what my pouch should hold. In the hospital, I could tell, obviously. A few sips and I was done. That lasted a few days, then overnight I seemed to tolerate thick drinks well. I can drink an 8oz protein drink with no problem, even more when Ive blended with ice. Shouldn't I be full ? All I kept hearing was "you can only eat a few bites." Does that really just pertain to solid food? I am just about ready to start stage three foods though, I have eaten a few wedges of Laughing Cow lite and tomato soup with a sprinkle of cheese with no problem. I'm really confused by this. Thanks!

Oh yeah. I just learned this with my first solidish food, a scrambled egg. It's a whole other ball game when you start to chew.

In need of help identifying a problem
KarenOR replied to njgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take Protonix twice a day and that has kept it at bay. I just started eating soft foods, like 20 minutes ago and it's a whole new sensation and some feels like a little acid, but maybe it's just the feeling of food. Not sure yet. It's really important to keep on top of the acid and take something for a few months whether you think you need it or not, as per my surgeon anyway. -
Question regarding psychology appt?
KarenOR replied to norahilda82's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yep. I was asked questions for about 10 minutes and then was instructed to take the rest on computer. Any trained monkey could have performed this. I have a background in psychology and was a little annoyed that the visit was nothing more than answering forms. But, it was easy, so nothing to worry about. -
Vegan foods for days 3-8 after surgery?
KarenOR replied to TurtleGirl's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
What about a tofu mousse or pudding? I know I've seen easy recipes made in a blender. -
September Sleevers- How are you feeling??

I had surgery the same day in the same state I'm sorry you are feeling crappy. Is the anxiety about the surgery and recovery or just anxiety in general? -
In need of help identifying a problem

Residual gas but more likely acid. I had the worse acid post-op. Sometimes it felt like it was going all the way up to my ears. -
Yep! This! I had a patch and also anti-nausea meds in the IV. By the time I left the hospital it was over. Just tell them! Good luck!

First couple days are the worst because of the gas. Where does it hurt? I actually had horrible pain around my right rib and ended up going back to doctor. Turns out the rib was bruised when he took off the expander. So, don't hesitate to ask if it doesn't get better. Heat helps too. Heating pad or microwave pack. Hang in there!

I think it totally depends on the individual. Weight is a major factor for most people with CPAPs but certainly not all. It can just be individual anatomy. I don't mind my CPap. I have a small nose piece and that's it. I actually quite like the humid air which helps with allergies. However, I won't mind not having it one day , so I can camp and travel easier.

I feel like I can eat too much
KarenOR replied to PepperCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I add protein powder to it but I imagine it's still the consistency issue, because it's not the protein per se. -
I feel like I can eat too much
KarenOR replied to PepperCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just posted a similar question about liquids. I just joined so I hadn't explored all of the threads. I was starting to get alarmed about how much I could drink. But the explanations here and in my thread make total sense. Also, I could still eat a small bowl of cream of wheat, which is thicker than soup. That's not exactly liquid and seemed to go through without any discomfort. I guess the real test will be soon when I go to pureed and soft foods. -
Advice for surgery day and recovery?
KarenOR replied to ristharp90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can't believe some people only have to stay one night. I had to stay 2, then was offered a 3rd so I took it as my hospital room was way quieter than my house with a husband and kids. They did a swallow test and then monitored everything for over 48 hours. I didn't have any preexisting conditions, other than sleep apnea, so I wasn't at increased risk. Bring a robe or something as they will want you to walk as soon as possible, and whatever home items you want. Definitely lip balm. I had wicked acid the first few days and was miserable. But the pain was tolerable . I didn't feel like I could drive for that first week, because of the Pain when moving my torso. Good luck. -
Anyone else hate Gatorade?
KarenOR replied to mel1214's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never heard to specifically drink the -ades. I can't stand it either and I never drank any. I drank sips of water and the protein shakes. That;s it. -
I'm 15 days post-op and found that making a thicker protein shake worked a lot better than trying to get so much liquid volume. I did that for the first week probably and then added some soup for variety as I was tired of sweet.

Vitamin Supplements 1st 3 Months
KarenOR replied to Apple203's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ordered the softchews from Celebrate VItamins. I got both the multivitamin and the calcium in easy to chew but not dry and gritty forms. The B12 is a melt away one. -
I am currently 15 days post-op and so I've been in liquid land. I bought a bunch of different kinds so that I would have a variety. The ON Chocolate WHEY by Optimum Nutrition, which I got at Costco is good. I also bought a bunch of the Syntrax Nextar kinds that come in a ton of flavors. The Peanut Butter cookie is really good, thought it doesn't dissolve all the way. Maybe that's the cookie bits For my pre-op, I mostly drank the premade vanilla Premier combined with a little almond milk and a few strawberries. That was really good. Good Luck.
