What was the worse thing you had to deal with after your surgery?
KarenOR replied to niseys4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bruised rib from the rib expander. -
Thanks! Something to think about for the next time I leave the country for sure (assuming I get that far in weight loss [emoji12])

Compression garments?
KarenOR replied to confusedturtle3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cannot imagine that it would actually help with loose skin. I think it can hold the loose skin closer so that it's not flapping around as much [emoji12] They can help post-surgery to keep everything compressed especially when moving around. I was going to get one the Friday after surgery but my Monday, I didn't feel the need anymore. If it feels good use it, but I wouldn't expect miracles with the skin. -
Best piece of advice you can offer for a post-op sleeve patient
KarenOR replied to ErinL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's mostly been greatly covered. I'll add that the first few days when it's usually so hard to get the protein down, make a thick drink. Like twice the powder! -
3 weeks post and I've been on treadmill 30-60min for about a week and a half. The first part, it was too sore between the staples in the muscle and y bruised rib on the other side. I probably wouldn't if I didn't have one in my bedroom., after my post op appt on Friday, hoping to go back to the pool. That's my method of choice. I'm anti-gravity [emoji12]. Whatever you do, start slow and work up!

Right there with you. Surgery was 9/27. I'm getting the liquid protein, not doing much solid . Hard getting in all the water. Been eating a lot of popsicles. Don't know if that counts. It's hard but just keep plowing through...eyes on the road!

Is it fasting if you are drinking? I thought fasting was no food or drink?

Im size 22/24, will I fit in the airplane seat???
KarenOR replied to Sherry Rice's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree it depends on your shape and even the airline. I'm considerably bigger than that and usually get an extender just because it's more comfortable. Most flight attendants are very discreet. I flew 1st class with an upgrade a few months ago and didn't need one there. -
I'm not an expert but that sounds like it's quite a jump ahead. Raw veggies are much harder on the stomach for quite a while. If the fish sticks were fried, that might not sit well. Maybe dial back to a little more basic would help? I've been mildly lactose intolerant always , usually just milk though not dairy. I had the runs a few times after soft cheese. I think the body just needs significant time to adapt. I use all almond milk in my shakes. Keep at it. Add only one new thing at a time, just like when babies start eating. I'm guess we all have a love of food with so many different reasons, otherwise, we probably wouldn't be here [emoji12]

I'm kind of thinking that there isn't much you can do about that. Your body will shed the weight however it wants. Gym is probably the best bet later.

I'm 3 weeks out and I totally am hungry. It's not "head hunger" either. It's real. But, it's not like pre-op. It's easier to curb just by drinking something. I haven't gotten into many foods yet but I suppose once you are eating solids it should help some because there are more choices. I've been eating a lot of SF stuff but I am so torn because I don't want to be eating all the artificial sugar crap. I try to buy things with stevia or monk fruit but it's limited. It's frustrating.

I don't think you can really do anything to prevent it. It's a factor of age and genetics and just your skin's elasticity. I think some people use creams but it doesn't prevent it.

Dating and Social Life
KarenOR replied to ILOVETEXAS210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would think it would be a great indication on the quality of person you date. If someone can't handle what you are doing to better yourself, then they aren't worth investing your time in. If it's just a casual date or something you aren't feeling , then I would just order soup or something and say you aren't that hungry. -
It's not a problem. I have my anti-acids and several allergy meds that I take every day. I've also been taking Advil for a bruised rib. They gave me pills to swallow IN the hospital. It was a little harder at 1 day post-op but doable.

I just started eating puréed and soft foods. What do you take when you are gone from the house for 5 or so hours but not at stationary place, like an office? Thanks.
-
I was just thinking about this . My kids eat popcorn several times a week and I have to make it. It's torture.
-
In was given it in the hospital too, but couldn't even fathom eating it. My 9 year old scored because I never let him have SF jello and rarely the full sugar one.

What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?
KarenOR replied to SassyScienceNerd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I keep forgetting to ask my surgeon about gum. What's the rationale? Is it the air you intake when you chew gum that's supposedly bad? -
Did doctor office call to check on you?
KarenOR replied to cindyRH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a call from the hospital . -
They should be titanium and shouldn't set off the detector. You can always show them your scars

September Sleevers- How are you feeling??
KarenOR replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon has soft foods after 2 weeks. Surgery was 9/27 and I just ate eggs for the first time today. Medium solids, I guess. -
Concerned about liquid intake
KarenOR replied to cindyRH's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Small sips very often. It also takes a little while for swelling to go down. I feel like it was about Day 7 when all of a sudden I could drink. Keep at it , slow and steady. -
Insurance doesn't cover wls, but that's not the end
KarenOR replied to Gypsystash's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My United Health Care also paid. It's worth fighting . I was so annoyed with them actually. At the beginning, I just wanted them to pay for a dietician for some accountability. But because I don't have diabetes or kidney failure, they wouldn't pay. I thought this was such a crock if s**t. But they said, we will pay for surgery. That seemed ridiculous. I ended up starting and going to nutritionist at the Bariatric center not wanting surgery but changed my mind. -
But no lifting! I was told nothing more than a gallon of milk weight for 6 weeks.

What is your Pre-OP Diet?
KarenOR replied to hernandez776's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This was mine except two shakes and a frozen dinner (with a lot of requirements). This was much harder than after because I was SO HANGRY!
