Change of surgery?
Road2Newme3 replied to Delete me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't say most.. It's the biggest thing that surgeons and dieticians talk about when they compare the differences. That's why they recommend the RNY for people with issues with sweets and sugars because the dumping makes you feel so bad that it will defer you from eating it again.. My mom is 10 years out with the rny and still gets it from certain foods... But like I said above, everyones journey is different. It's what she thinks should be best for herself. Change of surgery?
Road2Newme3 replied to Delete me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definitely think that if you have GERD now you will probably have it even worse with the sleeve.. I personally don't have any acid reflux so I'm not too worried about that. But from what I've heard age is also a factor, if you're younger and/or want more kids in the future than my surgeon recommended VSG because there's no malnurtionment that the mother would have during the pregnancy which means less risk for abnormalities. I also like the idea of the sleeve because I'll be able to eat like a normal person eventually (not portion wise but variety wise). Like years from now when I'm in maintenance if I want to enjoy a treat out with family I can and won't have to risk dumping being at my goal weight. But every decision is personal. I was on the fence for awhile too.. Best of luck with whatever you choose! Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app -

Why Getting Sleeved was the Biggest Mistake of My Life
Road2Newme3 replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's unfortunate how you feel and I'm sorry about your experience. I do definitely think you jumped the gun though. I've been on this journey for a year now, meeting with my nutritionist every month and I had to see a psychiatrist as well. I cant even imagine deciding I want surgery and having it 2 weeks later...or even 1 month later! Ive spent the last year slowly dropping bad habits and picking up new ones, so when I'm out of surgery, I'm in the right place. Many people see a psychologist afterwards to help with the stress, but I think its wrong for you to come on here with incorrect facts and scare the ones who may be already stressing over the decision. You keep preachinf about just exercising and dieting, but it cant be a diet, it needs to be lifestyle changes, as well as if someone's been obese and/or overweight a majority of their life, statistically speaking, the likelihood of that weight staying of is very very low. Sleeve VS RNY (Any advice welcome!)
Road2Newme3 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello! Talk about a long process! I started out at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in their Bariatric clinic, they had a year long wait after you've been approved, due to there only being 1 surgeon. This was fine with me because you are required to have an appt every 6 weeks and make sure you're maintaining or losing weight. No problems, but with what happened in Puerto Rico, the only surgeon is being deployed. So now I'm heading to Bon Secours to have my surgery done by Dr. Gregory Adams. (If anyone had surgery with him or Bon Secours let me know your experience and story!) My question is about which surgery to choose. So I started out at my highest of 358 this past January, I'm currently 329 and 5'8" (female, under 25). I know the "gold standard" is the RNY, which I found out through my surgeon is actually reversible if something goes wrong....I think that's what has me rethinking about which surgery to choose. I had been dead set on the sleeve, because my mom had the RNY 10 years ago and while it was fine for the first few years, she now has to have iron infusions every 6 months because even with supplements her body doesn't absorb iron as it should. So I'm worried that I would have problems down the road with absorption.... But I know I have a lot to lose and most people recommend the RNY because of how much I have to lose. But I don't want to have a bunch of issues later on, which is why I like the sleeve, because nothing is bypassed. Any thoughts, or personal advice?? Thanks!
