Where does everyone live? (General area)

Same here! Well, the chesapeake area!
  2. Hi guys! I just cleaned out my closet... I have a bunch of clothes I'm getting rid of. Most are size 22/24 with a few 26's. All of it was worn when I was one size so if you're usually a 22/24 it should all fit. Im going to post it on ebay for easier selling. If anyone is interested then let me know! I'll drop the link in the comments once it's posted. It's mainly Lane Bryant, Catherines, and rue 21 but there are a few other brands as well. The dresses are in great shape and mainly all fit and flare and they pair well with blazers! Also! I have a beautiful bridesmaid dress that I ordered for my brothers wedding and it was too small. I believe it is a 26. I'll post a picture. Its a convertable tulle dress and I have a lace top cover for people who don't like their arms out. It was $185 and still has the tags. It can definitely be worn for other special occasions not just for weddings.

    RN twelve hour shifts

That's temporary, I'll be 3 months post op and can get down a 16oz bottle on my 45 minute drive to my clinical site. I'm a RN student and this was my concern as well about the eating and drinking. Just keep water in the break room and sip it when you get the chance. It's a learning process for sure! Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions!

    Vitamins

I got mine from walmart! My nutritionist wants us to take 2 flinstone completes, calcium citrate (which I got a big off brand bottle at Kroger for like 8 bucks), a sublingual b12, iron (if you're a women and have your period still),and vitamin D. I got all of mine at either Walmart or Kroger, and the good thing about Kroger is most of the time certain brands are buy one get one free! From my support groups, the only one I see people actually buying from bariatric advantage is the calcium citrate as chews. They made me nauseous though, so I take mine as pills. I feel great, I just had blood work done, so I'll know at the end of next week if they're working!

What rules did your surgeon give you?

I wish I had your group! I've asked about calories a day because I feel like 700 calories when I'm almost 3 months post op is way too low. Especially if I'm doing an hour of cardio 6 days a week.

What rules did your surgeon give you?

Like, there are of course some carbs in the veggies. But we're not allowed starchy vegetables that are high in carbs. Other than beans. So no potatoes, no corn, no peas ect... Following their rules I get less than 10 net carbs a day (if that) which mainly comes from my coffee cream.

What rules did your surgeon give you?

-No carbs whatsoever until we're in maintenance (I've mainly followed, although I'm not sure about staying into ketoacidosis so long.) -No alcohol until at least 6 months and make sure you're at home the first time. -Limit caffeine -Atleast 30 minutes of exercise a day. Try for an hour. (I have no problem getting this in.) -No fruit until 6 months out because we don't eat much they don't want us filling up on the fruit and its sugars. I've mainly stuck to these rules although I don't agree with all of them.

My kids eat more than me!

I feel so left out when I eat with classmates at school! I bring out this tiny 2oz meal and they have like 3 containers of food! My 4 year old eats more than me and its so hard to imagine eating that much ever again!

    Nuts

Hello! Every plan is different, so I'd ask your nutritionist.. For me they are" technically" cleared for us at 6 weeks, as in they won't cause any issues, but they told us to avoid them until we're atleast 6 months out but ideally closer to maintaining. She said they're have protein and healthy fats but they're so high in calories she said it's really easy to over indulge on them.
  13. It was the same for me! I was way nervous about anesthesia than the surgery itself. Once it was time to go to the OR they gave me what they called the "I don't care" meds. It hit immediately and literally all cares went out the door. I vaguely remember someone telling me to scoot myself off the bed and onto the table then I remember the mask they said was "oxygen". Next thing I know I was in the recovery room half out of it. And then up to my floor. The OR and pre-op nurses were so nice. We all just jokes around for a while until it was time to go.. I had a really good experience and I hope yours goes well too!
  14. 1oz ground Turkey burger (homemade & grilled) with 0.25 oz bacon, 0.25 oz cheese and 0.5 oz of lettuce. 1tsp organic simply ketchup and mustard and just a few sautéed onions (taken from families fajitas) and then 1 pickle spear. The plate is the size of just my palm. 7 weeks out, I can eat anywhere from 1.5 to 2 oz (if that). I ate most the burger and half the pickle.

    Medic Alert Bracelet

My doctors recommended it but said it wasn't a necessity because of the fact in emergencies we cant have a blind NG/G tube placed. (nasogastric tube) they'd have to get an ultrasound of our stomachs before placing the tubes so they don't accidentally go too far or something like that? I dunno. I agree with you that after a year there wouldn't be any issues.

    Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017

Surgery for me was the 11th. Ive found that ground meat doesn't really sit well with me. Is that the same for you??
  17. I'm not sure if that was read right.. What I meant was that the success rates for sleeve were greater than the band, not the bypass (which I had originally stated.)
  18. Sorry, I went back to the article, it was the band I had read not the bypass. OP I correct that original statement.
  19. First off congratulations on your approval! I chose the sleeve particularly because although it takes longer (2 years) to lose the weight the results of keeping it off statistically is better versus the bypass. My high weight last January when I started my pre op classes was 352lbs. The doctor gave me a goal weight of 178. Which is 174 lbs I have to lose. I spent last year losing as much as I could, which wasn't much but I got down to 321 by surgery in december.. I'm now almost 6 weeks post op and weighed in at 291 yesterday. I don't expect the weight to keep coming off this fast. I've followed over a hundred sleevers on Instagram and I can tell you, if you don't follow your meal plan and work out it will be a long slow process with little success. But the same goes on the other end, the ones who stick to their plans, and workout a few days a week have done an amazing job! Some have lost 100lbs in under a year! It's a hard process no matter which surgery you choose. I like that if I don't eat right I won't get results. I'm doing this to change my entire lifestyle, and that will help me stay on track, but everyone is different. Good luck on whatever you choose!

    Alcohol

Its funny to find this topic, we just talked about this at the support group tonight!... My team says 18 months to 2 years, and to be at home or somewhere safe when we first try it out. They said that it was because it will affect you differently. And because there's such a risk for transferring addictions, they said if you have one and think "wow that was really good, I want another" that you probably shouldn't. We have 3 people post op in our support groups who attend AA meetings. Apparently 1 in 10 wls patient will end up becoming an alcoholic. (at least that's what they said!) Scary stuff! I'll definitely be staying away from it other than for special occasions , but everyone is different. Just be careful!
  21. I'm just now starting to show slimming in my face, no where else yet. But I'm worried about it too. I just started my nursing school which is 2.5years with the same 100 people. So I know after summer break there will probably be a bigger difference and I don't wanna be fussed over. It makes me uncomfortable but I also haven't told anyone (other than family ofcourse) about my sleeve. I'm worried that as the weight drops off someone's going to ask what I'm doing. But hopefully I'll be more confident in myself as the weight comes off and I'll be more open to sharing my experience. best of luck!

    Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017

I'm not always hungry, but I definitely get hungry if it's been a few hours since I've eaten. I felt like I was eating too often too, but I realize while eating only about an ounce and a half per meal. It's gonna take a few times of eating to get in all my protein. I eat about 4-5 times a day, about an ounce to 1.5 oz per meal. I don't think there's any problem with that, I'll move down to 3 meals a day once I can actually eat like 2 oz or so.

I also had constipation early post op, I made the mistake of taking milk of magnesia! It was awful. It made my stomach and intestines inflammed. I just got out of my stall. I noticed it around Christmas and I broke it monday. I'm sure you'll be out of it before you know it!

I had a lot is struggles starting off. With incision pain, more than usual and of course the pain meds made me nauseous. So I was only able to take tylenol. But I got super dehydrated and pass out 4 days post op. I had to go to the emergency room and get a couple bags of IV fluids. But after that happened I was adament about staying on top of my fluids. But other than that in the first 2 weeks or so I've been doing well. What about you? Any struggles?
