    My RNY journey

Hey, I was kind of reluctant to share my story but, I think it’ll be good for me. I’m 2 weeks and 5 Days post-op. I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass on 9-19-17. I spent two nights in the hospital. When decided to have gastric bypass surgery I was 331 lbs. The day of surgery I was 311 lbs. I am currently 297. Surgery actually went fine and there were no complications. I was in pain but that’s normal right after surgery. When I came home, again I was in pain but I was given hydrocodone for relief. As the pain started to go away I was able to do more. I was walking fine, getting out of the house, just simply getting back to my normal routine. Eating was a little difficult at first but transitioning into the different stages got easier to deal with. Of course, everyone is different but the earlier stages is where you find out what foods you can eat with no problem and what foods you can’t keep down. This past week, my pain began to increase where my main incision site is. I can’t lay in bed, get out of bed, tie my shoe laces, or pick anything up off the floor. The hydrocodone had finished so my dr suggested I take a liquid form of over the counter pain reliever ( which worked for 30 minutes at a time). I called my Dr once again because the pain had gotten so bad. He had prescribed me tramadol. Currently I’m taking tramadol and I’m pretty much still in pain. My 1-month post-op appointment is on the 18th with my surgeon and I’m hoping the pain subsides by then. How long has your pain lasted? How many of you get emotionally overwhelmed by the pain? -Christine D-

    Panniculectomy?

How soon after your WLS did you have an Abdominalplasty or Panniculectomy? I had my surgery September 19th , 2017 and have my Panniculectomy consult Friday January 5th, 2018.
  3. Hey! I’m currently 2 and a half months Post-op and I’m a vegetarian. My nutritionist says it’s a bad time to become vegan because I need the “protein” from meat. I’m 67lbs down from my highest weight and 47lbs down from my surgery weight. What are your opinions ? Any WLS vegetarians/ vegans?

  11. Hey GB family, I’m super discouraged today. I’m two weeks and five days post op. I’ve only lost 15 lbs from surgery weight (311). I thought I’d be losing more weight.I’m only worrying because l’m at a stand still. Has anyone had this problem? The scale is just not moving !! My 1-month post operative appointment is in 10 days. I’m afraid that’s not enough weight for 1 month.. HW:311 CW: 296 GW: 165

    Discouraged. 3 weeks post op.

It’s insane that once I wrote this post... I lost a pound!! Thank you everyone for your encouraging words!!!
  13. I have a suggestion. It looks like you’re unable to tolerate dairy products as I am. My taste buds were screwed up before surgery (lol) so, any protein shakes were gross to me. BUT, I did find an alternative that is really great tasting. It’s called “Evolve” protein shake. I used this for my 7-day liquid diet before surgery along with aiding in my protein intake post-op. It’s Zero-dairy so it’s a plant based protein shake. You should try it! They sell it at Walmart for about $7.00 for 4 shakes.

    My RNY journey

Well at least I’m not alone. I literally cried last night because I thought something was wrong.. my mom brought me home some lidocaine patches and an electric heating pad (my dr suggested using a hot compress to help with pain) .
