Gastric sleeve Self pay...Any recommendation?
wjgo replied to Naturalz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Radical idea, and I know of someone who did this. Quit job or otherwise become unemployed. Get rolled into state Medicaid. Go through 6 months plan, surgery, get new job. Free surgery. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Many times I can get very, very hungry after drinking Water and while drinking water. I admit that my meal/snack times are not ideal and can be erratic. All water I drink is near ice cold or cold and from thermos that starts out with ice if that makes a difference. Is this normal, or is it time to eat a meal/snack? Usually I'll have a morsel of food if not near a meal/snack time and it does a good job or satisfying the hunger, and provides immediate relief. And is this hunger mental or physical? I really can't tell what is mental or physical hunger. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

Rate of Weight Loss
wjgo replied to mitchjoann132010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you log and monitor what you eat? I use MyFitnessPal app. I can create custom foods, meals, is their database, or barcode scanner meals and change portions, monitor water intake in cups, liters or even ounces. As long as you are getting the right ration of nutrients (proteins very very important) and enough proteins and your total calorie are where your nutritionist suggests (guessing 600-700), you will be loosing fat. Water is more important than protein. Eating schedule for sipping and time between meals can be hard, but choose water over protein. You need water to process the fat. Get your 64+ ounces everyday. My nutritionist has no problem with a protein drink during that day. I'd ask your doctor why he says that. I think they all prefer food, but post operation, it's hard getting in water, and leaving time before and after all meals and slowly eat meals. Sometimes the protein drink makes a difference in getting my water and protein in. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

Sleeved 2 months ago, and I hope to participate in GoRuck obstacle course this year. It's a military styles "obstacle" course off activities, not exactly like a Spartan. The principle thing in a GoRuck event, is to "ruck," and in military lingo that is carry your gear. So they require you for the entire length of event, to carry a backpack with a 10-20 lb weight in it in addition to any water or supplies. So that is what I am working to. Right now, just 5lbs for my 1-2 mile walks. Need to get it to 20lb for 10 mile walks. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

It sounds expensive, and I doubt my insurance would cover it. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

Sleeved March 20th 2018 I've had stalls and sometimea minor gains day to day. But today, a solid 3 lbs. I am 318 now, was 353 at surgery. Yesterday I was on my diet plan, exceeding fat intake a little and had a soupy shrimp meal near bedtime. During day I was urinating more often than usual. Also, only got 3.5 hours sleep. Would these factors contribute to retaining almost all the food and water I took in? Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

It's going in the trash, or rather, to other people as soon as I get home. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Maybe that was it. I got some preprocessed sliced chicken breast. All the ingredients looked good, but I didn't look at the sodium. 4oz is.... 1,160 mg! And been eating that for a a meal or two a day last 3-4 days Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Does bariatric surgery enhance weight loss through respiration? I have experienced what I thought was unusually weight loss pre-op when I could only conclude that I had to have breathed it out. I hadn't paid much attention to it. With a larger diet pre-op, there was more variability of food weight and volume, and BM's occurred more frequently (mow, infrequent and scary). But now 1.5 months post op, I am on a routine, I know how much water and meals I get, and I am very good at measuring it (better than pre-op even). And I am definitely losing weight by respiration, no BM's, no sweating, any my urine volume does not come even close to what I drink. I am losing weight between stalls, and not even urinating much. Pre-op, I remember that I seemed to urinate longer. But I never measured it, so its ancedotal to me. I read some research online that for 10kg fat that is metabolized, 84% of that is exhaled as carbon dioxide, the rest becoming water. The process would require a total of 11kg of water. This seems more apparent post-op than pre-op. So, does bariatric surgery affect the normal weight loss through respiration by the physical changes to the body? Or is the dieting itself somehow enhancing it? And should I be doing breathing exercises to try to engage my entire lung capacity?

It is more difficult in the beginning. Water is more important than meals. If you have to choose, drink water. I changed my routine to drinking first in the morning. I hated protein drinks as well after the surgery and liquid post-op. But I gradually incorporated a protein drink almost every day to help get water.

I woke up in absolute terror. I tried to escape the bed. But incision pain and nurses held me down through a couple of attempts. I was barely conscious and could not even see, I just knew I was on a bed and I was trying to sit up to walk away. It subsided. I then watched the same thing happen to someone put beside me int he recovery room. I discussed it with a nurse and was told that some patients can laugh, or have a fight or flight reaction. I definitely lad the latter.

SLEEVED TODAY- why am I hungry???
wjgo replied to baribetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its not ad bad as last post. If you followed operation procedures, you probably stopped drinking for a while. While you have an IV drip with water, you are probbaly just very thirsty. The need for water can sometimes be disguised as hunger. I felt extremely dehydrated after the surgery, because one can still not drink to the next day. Hunger, is actually a part of being human, and a sign that your body is doing what is supposed to do. I understand now that one of the contributing factor to my obesity was that, I hated hunger, I detested it. So I would eat whenever I was hungry. But being hungry is just a sign that your nody is using stored nutrients and energy. You are supposed to be hungry between meals. You will get hungry, but you will soon learn that you will fill up very fast. The most importan this is to follow you diet instructions afterwards. Your body is going to need protein, and its the most important part of your meals. -
I am breaking down and buying a 3qt Instant Pot. This is a big thing for me. In the last year, I bought an expensive 7 inch frying pan and a little spatula for it. Also bought a knife. So this is a big step [emoji38] What is your favorite source for Instant Pot type recipes for post -op surgery? Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

Android app broken again on 4/14. At least three people posted in reviews, on the same day, and they don't come up as using the same device I do. Worked day before, worked that day, then about non - "app keeps restarting" and the app needs to be closed.

That does not seem right. I am under the impression that even three months out you need to be heavy on protein. Protein is 4 cal per gram. So, only 32% of your diet is protein? the rest carbs and fat? fat is fat, and carbs can become fat, and body needs protein to burn fat. That sounds way off. I'd check that.

Are you drinking enough water? Maybe you need more. The fiber pulls water from the intestines. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

I ate small handfills 2 weeks after surgery. It was husk free, and I made sure to chew it very well. No cravings for it now. After 3-4 weeks liquid diet, the craving for *anything* non-liquid is immense. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

MyFitnessPal had an option to search restaurant menus, it they choose to upload it to some database. MyFitnessPal also has databases on common food and just about anything with a barcode. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

Too late, but it was suggested to me to buy your favorite frozen food meal from grocery store, add unflavored Protein mix and puree it. I bought deli spaghetti (caused insufferable heartburn), meatloaf, clam chowder Soup and others. I borrowed my mother's stick blender immersion thingy. Added unflavored Protein mix to all of it. And Pudding! Add protein mix to it! Awesome! Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

Anxiety and Surgery
wjgo replied to mitchjoann132010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From reading threads here, anxiety is common. My anxiety was from the worry of carrying out the post-op diet successfully. Completely unfounded, it's far easier than I ever imagined as in not difficult, just need to start early with Water. I got about 5 hours sleep total for the two nights before surgery. While sleep is great, it left me sleeping the entire time I was alone in the hospital room, and had blinds down the entire time. Maybe get a hotel room close by night before. Anxiety is normal. I even had anxiety and second thoughts in the surgery recovery room. That quickly passed as the effects of anesthesia wore off. So, I wouldn't say all of your anxiety could be sourced to ocpd completely. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
