    Soft Foods Diet Ideas

I'm on week 1 of pureed food. After a month of liquids it's like heaven! I have done chicken breast and cut up fine, putting in baggies with broth marked 1 1/2 TBL. That way I can reheat easily no matter what hubs is eating. Last night added a little bit of sliced carrot and apple 😍😍. I don't know what was the best. I've done fish sticks, removing crumbs and it was wonderful. I did not get do well with eggs, so cottage cheese is my go to at the moment for breakfast.
  2. So glad you brought this up! I thought it was just me and maybe I was messing up or something. My surgery date was 10/17, so just a little over 2 weeks ago and add Fibro, Chronic pain and Chronic fatigue to the mix. At my 1st check-up with my Dr I took in copies of required blood pressure readings and I was running around 80/55 most days. Told him I felt like I was trying to run on "E81 fuel" and I was used to premium. I'm off my blood pressure meds already , doing better there with a bit more energy but still filling wiped out by the middle of most days.
  3. Lannie; Waler; KDBaker; Sullie06; jennypenny1998; hap314ness: thanks everyone!! guess I should have mentioned that I always drank my water with a straw before surgery - - and I get more liquids that way so I fear becoming dehydrated in the long term - haha and I only do sugar free soda if I do 1, and that's with mexican or pizza, which the spice I fear is way toooooo early, but I don't want to be that party pooper and my Dr did say I can do a refried been/cheese dip at this stage with a spoon, no chips. THANKS again every!!!
  4. oh I bet ALM! I'm not allowed any tomato product until 12 weeks out! wonder if my Dr is just very cautious??
  5. Surgery alone will cause blood sugars to get wacky. Mine have. Also, going without foods as well as eating smaller amounts, so having less foods verses carbs vs insulin for the pancreas to deal with as our bodies are going through this change right now cause things to stink. I have to keep a log of mine for my Dr. I was told that it may take about 8 to 12 weeks before I stabilize from my surgery date before I start to fall and can come off of my medication. I was hoping it would be before that, but I do know that all good things take time. Good luke as you follow this path as well.

Post-op: How long until you ate real food?

I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks post op. I just started pureed foods on Monday. I couldn't have handled foods any earlier. I still keep jello around, and my protein drinks. I will be on the pureed for 2 weeks and then go to soft for 2 weeks. After that I will be on Mechanical for 3 weeks gradually progressing to normal food items from week 2 into 3. I though why I saw this, "Man why so slow!" Now, living it, I understand why. I have to take things very slow when adding new foods. It will take awhile getting back to actually eating all foods that I used to.

    Fibromyalgia Sleevers

I've been on Cymbalta for years. I have tried 3 times to get off of it - - just can't. I works great for my pain. I didn't really have weight gain from it. I did from other meds and issues (broken leg, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, essential tremor disease and on and on)
  8. MissT-SR Doing well, 2 weeks out of surgery and finally feeling well. Off of blood pressure med #1, and #2 cut in half already! Just wishing I could have a Sprite! haha
  9. cottage cheese is on my list if you like that. I move to this phase Mon, 10=30. I get diarrhea from ALL the protein powders and drinks, so i am trying to avoid them right now, as they make me very weak.

    Fibromyalgia Sleevers

Hi y'all. I'm praying this surgery will help with my illness! I thought I might be the only 1 on here with Fibro. Nice to meet others. I am 10 days post-op right now. My blood pressure shoot through the roof in recovery and I was kept there due to my bp and pain for 5 hours. I was not in true pain free mode until the 2nd day out of surgery - the 19th. I wasn't released from the hospital until the 3rd day to to be sure I had things under control. After getting home, my bp dropped so low I couldn't do anything (85/55) until dr cut bp meds in half. Couldn't believe I was doing that already! 11 days post-op, Dr happy with how I'm doing. Monday I move on to next diet stage. Looking at a wonderful scrambled egg for breakfast and cottage cheese for lunch!

    5 days post op

Hi, I hope your doing better. Any of the protein powder's or premade protein drinks gave me the "steadies" with the bathroom, so I'm sorry, I can't help you. I just can't help. My Dr suggested Colase to all of us that needed help. I am 10 days out today (Oct 27th, surgery was the 17th) and feeling fairly good. In fact, I just might live! My blood pressure meds have already been cut in half and Mon I get to move on to the next diet level.
  13. The first 3 days in the hospital I wanted to do nothing but die, I hurt so bad. Staples in 5 areas, being pushed to get up - which I know was the best for me. Protein drinks make me ill. And before it's suggested, I don't like chocolate. Haha. In 2 days I get my staples out and I'll weigh then.

Surgey the 17th, Wished I could die

Thanks all for the concern. No, I did not have an open procedure, it was laparoscopic. But, I did have 5 sets of staples with a total of 12 staples. They were taken out yesterday - Oct 26 - and I get to move up to the next diet level on Monday. My blood pressure meds have already been cut in half! I do have to sleep with a body pillow when I sleep on my sleep on my left side so i can put my pillow between legs and under my budda belly, other than that all is going well!

How did you choose your goal weight?

Hi all, I have Fibro and 7 years ago I felt the best I have in a looong time with that horrid disease. My weight was about 100 pounds below where I am now even though that BMI is still a little bit high. I don't care about the BMI, I don't care about the facts of being called obese on my medical file. What I will care about is feeling good with my Fibro and being able to Live, Love and Enjoy my 9 grandkids and family.
  16. I have a red dress in my closet........it is haunting me, calling my name! I bought my dress 7 years ago when hubs and I got married and I LOVE that dress. It makes me feel utiful! and I cannot wait until I can fit in it again. It is a size 14. Most people would want to be below this size.......for me this is a good size and my target. Also, hubs and I are buying an RV and the joy of being able to climb in and out with no knee pain and just travel the US from coast to coast!! AHH life is grand.....

    Question regarding physiological appt?

HI, 1st off, don't worry about this! In my area there was a "group" meeting of about 6 of us first. In this mtg a therapist talked about the importance of putting ourselves 1st and doing the surgery for the right reasons. Then he went over group therapy and why it was an important part of our success or failure and gave us dates to come. Also advised us that a spouse or family member could come, as it was important to have home support. Then a week later we had our 1 on 1 with a psychologist. This appointment lasted about 45 minutes. She basically wanted to know how long I was thinking or preparing for the surgery before I met with the Dr, why I was having the surgery and what I wanted to accomplish with the surgery. (more then just the weight loss basically) . 2 very easy appointments

4 days to surgery and totally exhausted!

Try having Fibro, Chronic pain and Chronic fatigue along with a very low thyroid going through this. No amount of spice (which I use quite well as a "naturalist" and Native American) is going to help right now! hahaha but thanks for the thought.
  19. I have followed my pre-op diet........liquid. Oh joy and yum. NOT! For 2 weeks. I mean how many ways can 1 person fix very diluted cream of chicken soup that is different and enjoyable in 9 days? And have SF Jello to follow for the mid-day meal? Not to mention having 2 protein shakes during the day all within keeping under 700 cal. How on earth are you supposed to keep your energy up and exercise for 30 min on this kind of diet? I am so totally exhausted all I want to do is sleep sleep sleep. Any one else with this prob?
  20. MissT_SR I am so very sorry for your loss and your changes. I have friends out your way that have now been misplaced due to the fires and it is a heartbreaking life change. I know right now it doesn't look or feel like there is an end in sight, but there will be. And, you will find a place ........a new area to "call yours".
  21. Hey Oct 17th er's - - our final weekend is here!! 3 more days I don't know about you, but it's been a long 6 month process of Drs and numerous visits and tests and jumping through hoops and over hurdles to get to this point. All while suffering from Fibro, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, on and on and on. Hello! I'm having surgery because I don't have the energy to do all the acrobatics that have been required of me - lol! The last 3 days of this incedious liquid pre-surgery diet. Then I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and know, yep KNOW that it has all been worth it! If hubs eats 1 more good meal in front of me, I might scream - - . Calgon take me away!

4 days to surgery and totally exhausted!

I'm suppose too continue walking and to try to increase my distance........forget it! hahaha aint happening
  23. My surgery is the 17th - - sleeve and hiatial hernia both. I KNOW I have the hiatial hernia! I take protonix for it twice a day and if I miss 1 day - - OH MY GOSH!! Hoping that after I have some recovery and start to actually eat food again in a few months that I notice a real difference I have had this hernia for at least 30 years. I was told to take my protonix the morning of surgery.
  24. this has to be a totally "my own choice" surgery, otherwise you will not be happy with it. remember that this surgery is only a TOOL and is not a magic wand for weight loss and permanency. we each have to be happy with the choice we make. I have allergies to alot of the vitamins and minerals that the RNY requires so I choose the sleeve, however I have a hiatal hernia and my surgeon was very concerned about that being an issue. so he had me take 2 tests (and endoscopy, and a barium swallow) to determine if I was a candidate for the sleeve. dr finally said he had no probs with the sleeve, so wahoo!, I get to have it done in just a few days after 2 years of praying, pondering, and completing the pre-op program. this is all to say that you need to do the same.....work the situation. see what is best for you. look at both the RNY and the sleeve. what are the pros and cons of both. which one will work the best for you? then make your choice.
  25. I wouldn't sweat an egg! I caved yesterday too and had cream of chicken soup with the chicken in it! hahaha Must have been the day to cave in. We'll both get back on track and make it now though! Hang in there and let me know how you do!
