  1. I also was ER/PR/HER2, Nausea is quite controllable , and appetite not affected to much. The first three round of chemo are processed though your bladder so if you thinking you’ve been drinking a lot of water now, get ready. The last three rounds are the nasty ones, and the drugs wipe out your sense of taste. It comes back quickly when you’re done, though. That makes it really hard to eat because sun much food , even stuff you like, will taste like cardboard or sawdust. You’ll have to get creative with proteins . Don’t forget to get a new toothbrush every three weeks so you don’t get mouth cankers, which makes it hard to eat . No spread is WONDERFUL , I had it in three lymph nodes, and I’m fine ten years later. Herceptin , for HER2 is a miracle drug. If you’re getting radiation after chemo you will unlikely notice it affects you at all. Every day after chemo you feel so much better you’d have to get hit by a truck to get worse. You’re working on the two most amazing journeys ever, at the same time. So very brave and strong, and don’t forget that you are , even when you feel like crap. From here, the only way out is UP. Sending hugs. We’re all sisters in this. Pauline

    Under 40 BMI RNY Discussuins

I was so glad to read your post. I’m 66 and hope to have my surgery before my next birthday in February. My weight is 221 right now but has been as high as 235. I’m 9 years out from breast cancer. Yes, I know “ lucky” too. I also don’t want to be a sick old lady and I want to be able to go for hikes on the woods with my grandchildren. After several diets that resulted in the return of the weight I’ve realized I have no options left if I want quality of life as I continue to age. The RNY is a lot of lifetime work, but at least it’s a tool that works. Diets don’t, and they’re a lot of work too. So, keep posting about your progress. I feel like there’s someone on the path ahead of me that I can follow.

PCOS LADIES Getting pregnant post op

There is a very large school of thought that pcos is a kind of insulin resistance , which is in itself a prediabetic state. The huge reduction in carb intake after wls would reduce and possibly cure pcos. In fact the most useful treatment for pcos is dietary change involving carb reduction. So there you go.
  5. I’m 66 and just starting this process. Just met with the nurse last week and I’m booked to see the dietician and social worker at the end of the month. I have 90 pounds to lose to get to my ideal weight and I can’t wait to be the one saying “I’ve never felt better!” Aretha Franklin had bariatric surgery at age 70! However, I have to say I’m worried about post op complications down the road such as bowel obstruction. That’s my only real fear.
  6. I have to say the 30% hospitalization rate has me very concerned. I’m 66, and have started the process for RNY, which I will have probably in February or March 2018. My only fear is some late onset complication that will reduce my quality of life.
