My hand was swollen, red, and tender for over a week after surgery. The nurse told me that it was just irritated from the anesthesia and pain medication. It eventually went away.

I started in a size 24. I'm now three months later in a 16. My goal is to be between a 6 and 8.

I absolutely agree...the hospital in Minterrey is better than any hospital I have ever been in. The rooms are twice the size as US rooms and you have your own bathroom with a walk in shower which is great the day after surgery. Another thing about Dr. Rumbaut...I got really sick after I got home from Mexico. It had nothing to do with the surgery, but he or his assistant called me every day to check on me. No doctor in the US has ever done that.

I'm going to make just one suggestion...don't pick a doctor based on price. This is your health and the rest of your life. I went to Dr. Rumbaut because he had the best creditentials. He is a member of the board of the Inamed band. He is a wonderful surgeon and I was extrememly happy with the outcome of my surgery.

Tijuane vs. Monterrey, Help!

I had lap band surgery On Jan 3 from Dr. Rumbaut. I had an incredible experience. He and his staff are so wonderful and I was treated better than I could have ever imagined. He truely cares about his patients and no doctor that i have ever been to in the US can compare to him. -
I chose Mexico because I had a lower BMI and did not meet the US requirements. Dr. Rumbaut was wonderful and I would reccomend him to anyone. My cousin is getting ready to have the surgery with Dr. Walton in Edmond. He is with Foundation. The facility is brand new and seems wonderful. The are offereing so much support and guidance for their patients. If you are looking for a place in OKC, I would definitely check Foundation out.

I had a BMI of 37 when I went in for surgery. Since I didn't quite meet the US criteria I opted to have my surgery done in Monterrey Mexico with Dr. Rumbaut...who is the best doctor i have ever had. I am so glad I went to Mexico and I have no regrets. I haven't gotten my first fill yet, but have it scheduled in two weeks. I was told that since i had a lower BMI I probably wouldn't lose as much weight before my fill. I did though. BUT it was all by the food choices I made and not the band. When I was feeling well enough to eat more...I didn't let myself. I stuck with small healthy portions of food and have continued to lose weight. I feel so much better about myself. I am ready to have my fill so that I will get full from eating and not just quit becuase I don't want to gain any of the weight back I have lost. I wishyou the best of luck with your decision making. The lap band was the best choice i could have made for myself.

I researched Dr. Rumbaut for about a year before I decided to go to Mexico. I chose him based on his credential listings and his reputations. He was taught by the doctors who invented the Lap Band. Plus, in almost every doctor's website I found, either Dr. Rumbaut was mentioned or they had learned from him. He is very well known. I have no regrets on my decision and he has done his best to help me on my adventure.

I was banded last month in Mexico, but I will be getting my fills done in Norman with Lana Nelson. Also Dr Floyd was recommended from Edmond.

I am feeling amazing considering I just had major surgery. I have had no problems so far. The language is mostly not a problem. The only people I interacted with who did not speak English were the hospital nurses. Dr. Rumbaut gives you a paper that has questions that you may need to ask the nurse and how to say them in spanish. My mom and I found it easier to just point at what we were trying to say and they would find an english word to point back at. All of Dr. Rumbaut's staff and assistants all speak english very well. I had no problems understanding them. One thin I wish I would have brought was my own food for the hotel. There was a grocery store right next to the Hampton Inn, H.E.B., and my mom took many trips there to find me broth, yogurt, etc. Try to pack some things that you can eat when back at the hotel after your surgery. My mom and I went to H.E.B. adn bought a styrofoam ice chest to keep things cold. The best thing I found was the GNC store right by H.E.B. where I bougt Adkins Advantage shakes. They filled me up adn kept me full for several hours. If you have any more questions let me know? Let me know how your surgery goes? Casie -
