Let's see where to begin....I have always been slightly overweight around 20-30 lbs or so, (for my height) from high school on. I played varsity sports all 4 years and even college softball, I was a true athlete! Then a bad relationship created bad eating habits and behaviors. I've yo-yo dieted on and off for the last 12 years. Weight watchers, juice cleanses, exercise, no carbs/high protein, beach body diet, whole 30 diet etc., even gluten and dairy free. My weight was climbing and it became overwhelming to even think about how I would tackle this. I gave my full effort 4 years ago and cut out all starch foods, learned to cook healthy, and started running. I was down 50 lbs and felt great, although still 90 lbs to go. Wouldn't ya know I broke my ankle and had to have 3 surgeries to fix everything. So yes, you guessed it, over the course of 3 years recovering not being able to exercise my weight crept up and regained 50+. So I'm back to where I started. I was contemplating WLS for the last couple of years, ever since my doctors recommended it after I was diagnosed with Pseudo Tumor Cerebri. I kept thinking I'm an athlete with an Exercise Science degree, I would be a failure if "I took the easy way out", "what would people think of my decision" etc. I believe everyone has their AH-HA moment...mine was attending a METS game with friends. I never felt so uncomfortable, embarrassed to not fit in what felt like a child's seat, and out of breath from walking. It clicked, my decision was made and I started researching WLS options, surgeons, and insurance coverage. I realized this is not the easy way out, but a tool I need to assist in my weight loss journey! So this is my Pre-Op weight loss story. My new lease on life begins on 11/17 (pending approval).
