Belly fat :( aka Tina the talking tummy
oopsydaisy replied to lex2287's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with you! No advice as I'm going through the same, but wanted to share a little of your pain and let you know you're not alone The hips weren't so bad- I've lost A LOT there (9 inches or so). The waist. like 2 inches. Eventually, when the rest is gone, the body will have to get rid of SOMETHING. Good bye, tumtum -
I thought this too! With both baked potatoes and fries. However, upon indulging on the craving, I discovered I no longer liked potatoes in any form. The meal looks delish

I (like lots of others) thought the hair loss was something that happened right after surgery. Breathed a sigh of relief that I'd dodged it after 3 months and no loss. Within the last few weeks though, my hair has started to come out. Whahah. It isn't awful though and I don't expect to be bald or anything. No one else even notices- it's all between me and the bathroom sink. Well. All of you now too. I've seen biotin and l-lysine mentioned here, but I also remember my nutritionist mentioning eating zinc rich foods as well to help.

How long has your longest stall lasted?
oopsydaisy replied to SleeveinIL's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I stalled at 1 month for about 5 weeks. I'd lost 30lbs in the first month. Like others have said, during the time, my body changed drastically with the inches. I'm 5 months out, about 65lbs down total (only 35lbs over 4 mos!) and I've hit another stall- about 2 weeks in and I'm bouncing around these last few pounds trying to get to Onederland. Talk about frustrating! I try to keep measurements during the time and really pay attention to the way my body is shaping and the way clothes fit. Even when the pounds aren't dropping and when the inch loss seems slow, it seems there's a lot going on. -
I love this, too! I don't do well with splenda or aspartame, but I get no ill effects with stevia. Another one that I really love is the True Lemon mixes. They are lemonades/limeades.

H-pylori bug
oopsydaisy replied to notthedoublegoodbye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I have not had this, but my son did when he was 8. It was a lot of pills to manage over a long period of time. So sorry to hear you're going through this! I wanted to comment on the hunger, because this is something he experienced as well. He ate SO much and never really felt satiated. For him, it was a symptom of peptic ulcer caused by the h. pyolori. He's 18 now and still gets flare ups and that gnawing hunger is one of the first signs. Cutting caffiene and anything fatty often helps. -
I'm not the one who wants to keep it a secret.

When I decided to look into the VSG surgery, I told my husband and he was supportive and positive. I also told my mother, who was not. (Just get your hormones straightened out. You'll be fine. No one in my family is overweight and I didn't struggle until last 12 years.) I started with my preop appointments in August. My husband went to the consultation with me and he drove me to/from the appointment for the GI endoscopy. He keeps saying that we shouldn't tell anyone - friends or other family. If any one asks when I start loosing weight, he feels like we should just tell them I started power walking. He told his business partner that the appointments were for 'woman issues'. The hell. the business partner is also a best friend that we spend time with outside of work. I really suck at lying. I have mobility issues that arose in my 20's before I gained weight and fibromyalgia- walking is painful! I do it when I have to, but no one is ever going to see me out power walking the block! And if people think I am, then they'll have a real lack of understanding when I can't participate in physical activities due to pain or weakness. For the rest of my life. While my mom is not supportive of anything I do, my family is very small and close. Basically, it's us and an uncle that I'm really close with and an aunt that adores me unconditionally. Both would be supportive and happy of my success. My weight has never been an issue with my husband. While his initial comments were supportive, the idea that we lie about what I'm doing seems very unsupportive and I don't understand what it might accomplish or what a hidden agenda might be. I asked if he was embarrassed for me. He said no, he just feels it's none of anyone's business. What am I missing here? I feel so agitated by it that I don't want to include him in anything else. -
December Sleevers, where ya at?
oopsydaisy replied to Jade5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I expected this to happen shortly after surgery and by March, when it didn't, I thought "whewww! Dodged that one!" However, I did start shedding massive amounts within the last few weeks. Seems like it will be okay though. All is well here, albeit a little slower than what I hoped for. (I wanted to be one of those 100 in 6 months kind of people). In the end, my husband's advice was good. I get both sides of this, but not everyone needs to know and I think I'm better off for being able to focus on myself with out having unsolicited advice from anyone. If someone asks me, I'll be transparent because life is easier that way. And maybe it might help someone make a good decision for themselves. Who knows! Hope all went well with your surgery, moondoggie -
I planned meals before considering WLS. It helps make sure a meal is on the table rather than fast food after work. I keep a spiral bound notebook and write a header for each day - and then I simply fill in a meal under each header. Now that I'm mindful, the 'meal' is just a protein and veggie and how I intend to cook. I love doing it this way, since I can make my grocery list from the menu and everything is on hand when it's time to cook. I can leave it on the counter - the fam can peek at it to see what's for dinner and even start prepping with out you. If you find it overwhelming, try doing it just for dinners. Repeat your breakfasts and lunches to simplify things. If you get stuck on planning, you can flip through your notebook and view previous weeks for inspiration. This week,my meal plan looks like this: Sunday: Taco Salad (no tortillas, dairy or cheese for me); Monday: Vegetable beef soup; Tuesday: Zucchini and meatballs with marinara; Weds: Lettuce wraps with ground turkey & cucumber salad; Weds: Grilled steak & asparagus. It doesn't have to be complicated
