    How long were you out

I am 12 days post op right now and I will be staying out another two weeks. My job can involve some lifting and such at times so I want to make sure I give myself enough time before returning to work.

    Im having trouble

I know the feeling of being on a tight budget and thinking you can’t afford it. Really though when it all comes down to it can you really afford not to do it? Your health is worth way more than any struggles you may have with coming up with the funds.

    Calling all October sleevers!!

I know this was directed at Bill, but I thought I’d throw my experience out there as well. I was sleeved 10/11, so currently 12 days post-op. They had me up and walking within a few hours of surgery. It was just a down and back in one halls of the hospital, but it helped a lot with getting the gas moving. They then continued to have me walk every couple of hours in the hospital until I went home. After coming home I started by kind of doing laps in my house until I felt strong enough to go for a longer walk which was a couple days later. I then progressed to walking about a mile around the lake that is by my house. Now twelve days post op I am walking about 3 Miles at a time and feeling stronger and stronger each day. The walking is the only exercise I have been doing as my doctor has not cleared me for anymore, and I don’t expect he will anytime in the near future either.

Should be able to shower the next day without issue. Just be careful around your incisions.

11 pounds is great progress! You may be amazed by what you see in a couple days at your follow up appointment.

    Soft/puréed today!

Had my appointment and they want me to wait until Tuesday to go to stage 2. I guess that’s standard for my doctor’s program. They want you on stage 1 for two weeks before going to stage 2. As much as that sucks it was kind of overshadowed by the fact that I found out I have lost 20lbs since my surgery date. I guess what I’m doing is working so it won’t kill me to wait 4 more days.

7 days 20lbs feel like dancing.

Congrats! I know what a huge psychological boost that can be.

    Calling all October sleevers!!

I’m am now 9 days post op and had my first post op visit this morning to get my drain out and just do a general follow up. The nurse gave me a weird look when I stepped on the scale and said “holy s%#*!” lol. I was 299 day of surgery and today when I stepped on the scale I was 279. I was absolutely amazed to see that kind of loss in 9 days. I know this pace will slow down greatly but that was a huge psychological boost, and makes the 4 more days I have to wait to go to stage 2 a little more bearable. It is also a huge boost to not have that stupid drain hanging off of me anymore, though it did not feel good having it removed.

    Soft/puréed today!

I have my first post op visit today and am hoping to be told I’m good to go on to puréed foods. I absolutely cannot wait to eat an egg and some refried beans. Good to hear that your first venture into this category has gone well. That had to taste amazing coming off of full liquids.

Haha I keep telling my wife the same thing about the eggs.
  11. My wife had her surgery 3 years ago and is always cold to this day. I only had mine 5 days ago so it’s too early to tell for me. I was freezing when I first came home from the hospital, but have felt normal ever since that time. I have always been like a polar bear though. I could walk around in 10 degree weather with just a sweatshirt and jeans and be perfectly comfortable. It will be a huge change for me if I end up like most where I am always cold.
  12. Best of luck to you all on your journeys today.
  13. Best of luck to all of you. The first day or two will be tough but know it gets much better after that.

    Had my surgery!!!!

Congrats on getting through the surgery. I know what you mean about the pain immediately following surgery. I had such bad gas pains that my first day post op felt like an eternity. My wife went through this surgery 3 years ago though so i kind of knew to expect this. Once I got beyond that point though it has been like a night and day difference. I am now 3 days post op and have only taken my pain meds once in the last two days. Best of luck with getting to that 3 at the start of your weight. It is a huge psychological boost to see your weight starting with a lower number.

    I have a CRAZY question

To be honest with you that thought did cross my mind for a second. That’s all it ended up being for me though was a passing thought and I never truly gave it serious consideration.

    Jello

I was given jello as part of my initial stage of food in the hospital. I just took very small bits of it and let it melt in my mouth before swallowing it. Doing it this way I have had no issues with it.

    Calling all October sleevers!!

I had my surgery 10/11 and got to come home today. The first day post op was pretty painful for me with terrible gas pains. Once I got up and was walking more and they change my pain meds it was a whole different ball game though. I went from terrible gas pains to just minor tightness in my stomach and was able to walk around freely. I came home earlier today and ended up sleeping for probably the first 8 hours I was home. I guess my body needed to catch up on all the sleep I couldn’t get in the hospital due to constantly being woken up for one reason or another. All in all the process has not been too bad and I have zero regrets. Now I just need to concentrate on sipping water all day and getting my food intake up a little. My surgeon did say for the first week though that his number one priority is the fluid intake and that the eating will progress as time goes on.
  18. Congrats on starting the next stage of your journey. I had mine 10/11, but my doctor requires a longer hospital stay. I’m hoping to go home today 10/13.

    Calling all October sleevers!!

Just called and got my surgery time for tomorrow. They’ve got me scheduled for the first surgery of the day at 7:30. I’m happy to know it’s so early and I’ll get to get it over with without sitting around feeling anxious all morning.
  20. Good luck! Be sure to let us know how it goes. Mine is 10/11. I’m looking forward to ending the pre-op journey, and to starting the post-op/new way of life journey.

    Powerade zero

Not sure about the Powerade but I do have a suggestion for your water. Go to Walmart and grab on of their insulated tumblers in the camping section. They are only about $9. I have one of the 30oz ones and it will keep water cold for hours at a time.

    1st week post vsg surgery...

Don’t be discouraged. If you follow the guidelines set out by your doctor and nutritionist the weight will come off.

    Hello, new here

Thank you, and best of luck on your journey. It will have its ups and downs but in the end it will all be worth it.

    Hello, new here

Welcome. It can vary greatly from person to person depending on doctors and insurance company requirements. For me personally it has been just over 3 months and I am scheduled for surgery next Wednesday the 11th.

    Calling all October sleevers!!

My surgery is next Wednesday, but I already hit my first milestone today. I started my journey at 333lbs. My doctor doesn’t require a pre-op diet so any real change in diet leading up to surgery is mostly on me. I made the decision to not wait until surgery to change my diet though because I didn’t want that drastic change from eating big portions to next to nothing. I figured I’d have a better chance of success having sort of trained by brain and body before hand. Well I had my last pre-op weigh in this morning at my doctor and I weighed in at 299lbs. Seeing my weight start with a 2 instead of a 3 was a huge boost mentally, and makes me look forward to getting this journey started all that much more.
