  1. So far my journey has been mostly a good one. I was sleeved 10/11 and as of today I am down 94lbs overall and 60lbs since surgery day. I feel so much better now than I did back in July when I made the decision to have this surgery and go see my doctor. Now if I could just get myself to see the difference in the mirror. It is amazing the way our brains work when it comes to how we see ourselves.

Better Buy: Blender or Food Processor?

It does have a spiralizer attachment as well. I haven’t used that part yet, but have been itching to try it to make some zucchini noodles.

Better Buy: Blender or Food Processor?

I bought the new Ninja system that has a blender and a food processor attachment that operate on the same base. That way I didn’t have to decide between the two. It’s a really great system.

Working Out and Training for 5/10ks Post DS

My wife runs a ton of 5k’s every year, and has always wanted me to do them with her. With that in mind I am in the same place as you in starting to figure out where to start. I think your best bet is doing exactly what axlr8n and working with your nutritionist to come up with a plan. I plan on doing the same and will be start training in the spring when the temps warm back up. I go to the gym all the time, but just can’t run on a treadmill. There is just a slightly unnatural feel to the motion on a treadmill that throws me off.

You know you lost weight when

When you are showering and your hand stops dead while applying soap to your stomach/chest because it hits the bottom of your rib cage.
  6. I live a couple hours from the Adirondack mountains in NY and absolutely love hiking. I plan to treat myself to the view from the top of a lot of the bigger mountains that I was previously too out of shape to climb. I’ve done a lot of smaller mountains and a few of the bigger ones pre surgery, but really struggled with the bigger ones. I’m in the gym almost every day and getting closer to my goal weight so I figure by spring time I should be good to start tackling some of the bigger mountains.

Do you have take out/Fast food?

If I have no other options I will but find most of it completely unappealing and don’t like the taste of most of it. I will generally only eat either an egg and cheese wake up wrap from DD or a small chili from Wendy’s.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I’m starting off my Friday in a great mood. I hit my first real goal today. I set a goal after surgery to be below 250lbs before the end of the year. I did my weekly weigh in when I woke up this morning and weighed in at 248lbs! This not only hits my goal, but puts me over the 50lb mark since surgery. I’m now at 51lbs lost since surgery and 85lbs total since the start of my journey.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I think that’s completely normal. I can easily drink 32oz within a couple hours if I’m actually focusing on it. When I’m at the gym I will generally go through about 20oz in an hour. The water doesn’t stay in your stomach for very long and just pushes straight through.

    October sleeve photo result.

While it isn’t good that it happened you at least realize that you should not have. Try to keep that in the back of your head as you forward. Also try to remember why you started this journey when you get in those situations.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

Just checking in to give an update on myself and see how the rest of the October sleevers are doing. I’m a little over 7 weeks post op right now and feeling amazing. I’ve been going to the gym on a regular basis and feel like I have much more energy for it now than I did before surgery. Food wise I feel I’ve been very lucky in that I really haven’t had any trouble with anything I’ve tried post op. I started this journey back at the beginning of June at a weight of 333lbs. The day of surgery I was 299lbs. My current weight is 252lbs which I am very happy with. I set a goal for myself after surgery to be below 250lbs by the end of the year and barring any crazy stalls I should be able to hit that mark with the few weeks I have left to reach it. Then after that it’s time to push on to my goal weight of 230lbs. All in all I’m 100% happy with my decision to make this life change. Yes there were days of doubt and times in the few weeks post op where I questioned what I had done, but I know in the long run I made the right decision and become more sure of that every day. Now if I could just hit the lotto so I could afford the whole new wardrobe I need I’d be all set lol.
  12. I’m a little over 7 weeks post op and my “second belly button” as I called it immediately after surgery is almost completely gone.

What is your favorite part of weight loss?

I’m only 7 weeks post op so I haven’t fealt the full benefit of the weight loss yet. I did put up the tree with the family the other day and was amazed at how much easier it was to get up and down off the floor at my current 258lbs than it was at the330lbs that I started my journey at. I was up and down at least 8 times crawling under the tree for various reasons when all of the sudden it struck me that I wasn’t struggling or grunting and groaning every time I moved like I used to.
  14. Congrats on reaching one of your goals! It’s great to set those incremental goals because it always gives you something to work towards, and at the same time gives you that mental boost when you reach them.

    Dry Skin After Skin

I have the same issue. I have never had to use lotion, but since getting the sleeve in early October I have had to start. My skin gets unbearably dry now if I don’t use it.
  16. Man I wish I only had my drain for 48hrs. My surgeon requires one for 7 days, and do to a scheduling issue I was stuck with mine for 9 days. That was by far my least favorite part of the whole process. Other than that I wish I knew just how greatly my tastes would change in the time right after surgery. There are quite a few foods that I simply cannot stand the taste of anymore that I loved pre-surgery.
  17. Yup that sure sounds like the gas pains I experienced. Walk as much as you can and it should help to lessen the pain.

The patches aren’t super sticky but have no issue staying on while sleeping.

Sick after going back to work

I’m working a 12hr night shift and did not experience anything like that when I returned to work. I’m thinking it is more than likely something else.

    My first goal accomplished!!!!

That’s awesome! Congrats on the milestone. Every little goal we reach is a huge psychological boost and helps us on our journeys.

    Calling all October sleevers!!

I was sleeved on 10/11 and am just returning to work today. That is mostly due to the fact that my job can involve quite a bit of lifting and pushing and pulling up to a couple thousand pounds on a cart.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

I was sleeved on the 11th and have been doing good so far other than about a 3-4 day period this week where literally nothing tastes good to me. That seems to have passed and I am now able to enjoy the few things that I am eating again. I’ve been doing good on my fluid intake but still need to work a little more at my protein intake. I eat the normal three meals a day and make sure I measure out everything I eat. Ive read the horror stories of people feeling ill for hours on end from overeating and I don’t not want any part of that. By measuring every meal I have yet to actually feel “full” but always manage to feel satisfied after my meals. I’ve also only been weighing myself once a week on Fridays as I don’t need that added day to day stress of worrying about the weight on top of all the other challenges that come along with this surgery. I started this journey at 333lbs and was 299lbs the morning of my surgery. I was 269lbs last Friday when I weighed myself which was amazing to see. I however still do not see a difference in the mirror from my 333lb self to my current self, even though I have had a ton of people comment on how much thinner I look. It’s crazy the things that our minds do to us.
  23. I was sleeved 10/11 and so far everything has been going great. I was able to start stage 3 this Tuesday, but am finding that nothing I try is tasting good to me. It’s so weird to me. I having almost no foods that I don’t like to having almost no food that I do like now post surgery. I keep wasting food because I will try something new that I am allowed to have on stage 3 only to find I can’t stand the taste and end up throwing it away. I know it’s common for tastes to change but this just seems crazy lol.
  24. I used to love yogurt before surgery. I have tried eating it a few times since my surgery and just can’t stomach it anymore. The taste just gets to me immediately. I also can’t eat tuna anymore. One thing I have found weird also is that my sense of smell seems to be heightened since surgery. I don’t know how or why, but I now smell everything way more than I did pre surgery.

    How long were you out

Yes I will be out almost exactly a month. I can go from lifting >100lbs to pushing around 1500-2000lbs on a pallet jack so I wasn’t taking any chances on going back to work to early.
