HEALTHY Vegan/Vegetarian Recipe Swap and Pics!
Amburmist replied to Newme17's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Isn't this horrible, from a fat/sat fat perspective? I wouldn't have thought this was 'safe' to eat, nutritionally speaking. I'm new to the whole 'reading the back of product labels', so please let me know otherwise. Looks delicious! Just doesn't look healthy on the back of the package. Am I wrong? Please help me understand how, if so. Thanks! -
I know what u mean about being confused by whats going on in there. For example, with me when i take a medium-sized gulp of a drink, my pouch fills up so quickly, as soon as I'm done swallowing! Then I have to stop drinking and let it drain for a minute or two. However, there are some foods I can eat a pretty healthy amount of and I'll never get that jammed up full feeling like when I have a gulp of a drink. So, I have no idea why full on liquid doesn't just sail on thru my pouch but some solid foods that I eat do, no problems, no hangups?! Odd right? I had the RnY on 9/13, exactly 1 month ago today. Happy Friday the 13th guys!! [emoji192][emoji316]🙃[emoji317]

Uhh...nothing about this process is 'that simple'. That's quite unfair and insensitive of u to say. People are complex and rarely are their issues 'black and white'. I don't think it's ever easy to 'take control of ur mind and the thoughts in it', when ur dealing with an addiction. And I'm going to venture a guess that most people on these message boards, including u, are dealing with/have dealt with an addiction to food, in one way or another, or we wouldn't be on here talking about and having WLS. A little more empathy and/or words of encouragement out of u would've been nice, instead of shame, judgement, and ego. Besides, we come here for the community of it all, as most of already have people in our lives who think everything dealing with weightloss is 'easy if u just put ur mind to it'. [emoji20]

Surgery didn’t work?
Amburmist replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh goodness, another person here to judge others. U really felt the need to come out of the bushes to chastise folks? Really? U could just as easily have NOT responded and moved on to another thread where u felt more comfortable. Ur comments arent adding any value to the discussion other than to shame. Not cool either. The moderator already shut down the situation and addressed what would happen to those who continue misbehaving. Please stop talking to us as if we are children. -

I would have loved to read @Abielle213 response to@Lacecute's post just now of @Abielle213 's early WLS meltdown. Nice find, Lacecute! The big bad psychologist was banned just in the nick of time to not have to answer. Bummer! -
Surgery didn’t work?
Amburmist replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Curious, are u a physician? What kind? You don't seem very tolerant of those that are having a bit of a hard time mentally right now. It may be easier for u to deal with since it appears u have been in the WLS game for awhile, are down a significant amount of weight (from 402 to 249), and have had time to mentally adjust to how quickly, or slowly, YOUR body loses weight. It's easy to forget that u too were once first out of WLS and eventually stalling in ur weight loss and wondering if u were doing the right or wrong things. You used to weigh 402lbs, those feelings must have come up. So why are u so judgemental of others that have them now? Folks are here for support, not to be shamed or told to get over it and 'stop whining'. So, of course she would get defensive if someone tells her that! It's inappropriate, and since when has that ever been a proper way to empathize and encourage? Is it really necessary to vocalize your annoyance, for no reason, or is it more appropriate to just move on to a different thread, one where u can offer support, suggestions, and inspiration based on your experiences? -
Hi fellow bypassers! Ever since my surgery was completed on 9/13, I've been exhausted, unable to get enough rest, only able to sleep about 2-4hours at a time since surgery. I don't mean just a little tired, I mean I'm FALLING ASLEEP or on the verge of falling asleep the majority of the day, no matter what I'm doing: at work, watching TV, reading a book, on my phone reading these message boards... everything. I find myself standing or pacing all the time now just so I won't fall asleep (ya, it's odd when the fam is watching TV on the couch and I'm standing BEHIND the couch just to stay awake!). Is anyone else experiencing such dramatic energy loss since their surgery? If so, what have u done to combat this? Any suggestions?

Agree with@apple203! Thank u@berry78! Your feedback is helpful, respectful, insightful, and realistic. Thank u for helping me reel myself back in! Yes, our expectations and hopes can often start running away from us, so it's nice to have you as a calm within our storm to help us refocus. You're awesome and much appreciated!

Surgery didn’t work?
Amburmist replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your encouragement Apple. It's much appreciated. Just 1 correction: I've lost 13lbs in 4 weeks, not 25. Yes, I lost about 10lbs a few weeks prior to surgery on my own (no pre-surg liquid diet) but my concern was about what I've lost POST surgery in 4 weeks, 13lbs, compared to other women I've seen post who've had my same surgery, same timeframe, same range of excess weight to lose. (Granted, some posts I've seen, I don't know if they're male or female, or how much excess they have to lose; just that the amount they've lost in the same timeframe is far greater than mine). In response to a later post by another person, yes, I agree that the bottom line is that we shouldn't compare ourselves to anyone else and everyone is different, yadda yadda yadda. Intellectually, we all know that. But the fact is our emotions are running a bit high right now, we've just had pretty major, life changing surgery, and this is the last resort for some of us to actually lose the weight that has been on us for many many years. So, when we see others post who have lots of excess weight to lose (like us) and have gone thru the same procedure as us having way better results than we're having, its only natural for us to feel a ways about it and wonder if we're doing something wrong or if we're the ones this isn't gonna work for! It's to be expected and understood, not ridiculed and shamed. We don't necessarily know those peoples' every stat to know why they seem to be doing better, we just see their post saying theyre numbers are outstanding in a short period of time. Actually, that's the whole point of them posting posts like that. Because it IS amazing! So ultimately, those of you who take the time to sympathize with us and lend encouraging feedback, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! That is all we really want. A dash of a "shoulder to cry on" and a sprinkle of "keep up the good work, you'll get there, don't worry", and most of the time we feel better. [emoji2] -
Sometimes if ur body is in high ketosis, u will feel very nauseous. My team told me to drink lots of water to help that go away. I wonder if u are in ketosis and thats what's giving u nausea? Do u have a weird, nasty taste in ur mouth? That goes along with Ketosis. I was in ketosis pretty bad about a week ago (my 3rd week post op) but i was able to handle the nausea with lots o water. Good luck!

Im feeling like a failure...already

Thank u hon! I had my bypass surgery on 9/13. I try to drink at least 64oz of water minimum. Difficult, but im working on it as i know its critical. -
Im feeling like a failure...already
Amburmist replied to Amburmist's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Typically, ill have a protein shake for breakfast, then 4oz of a protein at lunch, and then 4oz of protein at dinner, and sometimes a yogurt or another protein shake for a snack at some point in the day. I'm not allowed to eat beef, pork, grains (rice, bread, pasta, potatoes, etc), or raw veggies yet, so i feel pretty limited on what i can have and what i will have. I have probably 8-10 food items in rotation (tuna, canned veg, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, protein shake, string cheese...to name a few). I really dont know what else to eat. My calorie intake has been about 700-800/day (im pulling back to 600 max, per my NUT) and protein intake about 80-120g/day (im pulling back to 80 max, per my NUT). My exercise is every other day at this point, 30 min of fast cardio. In ur opinion, what could i be eating or doing better? What should i stop eating or doing? Any advice u have based on what has worked for u or ur friend would be awesome! -
When u say "Typical weight loss is 4-8 pounds a month", I assume ur talking about an everyday average joe who hasnt had bariatric surgery? Curiously, do u know (or anyone know) what the average monthly or weekly weight loss rate is for someone, female in particular, who's had gastric bypass? I know everyone's different but I assume there is an average out there communicated somewhere. Just curious.

Aetna Insurance denied & Appeal
Amburmist replied to sweetsleeveday's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have u or ur daughter called Aetna customer service to speak with someone personally to find out what the reason for denial was? Or are u getting the info second hand from the doc? I would suggest calling Aetna if u havent already. I wish u and ur daughter luck whichever route u need to take. -

Thank u for ur response! So, what did the doc end up telling u when u went in to discuss ur frustrations? Are u still losing steadily? -
Aetna Insurance denied & Appeal
Amburmist replied to sweetsleeveday's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are u certain the weight gain was the reason for the denial? Did they specifically tell her that? If they didn't give a specific reason, I would call immediately to understand why they denied. There can be so many hoops to jump thru, it may not be the weight gain. Was she doing the doctor supervised diet requirement? Another thing, does ur daughter have a BMI over 40? I thought with a BMI over 40, it's usually the comorbidities (like apnea, diabetes, etc) that would allow an approval, not so much a weight gain. Hell, that's the whole reason we're trying to get these surgeries, for goodness sakes! I know u said her surgeon is going to submit an appeal but I would certainly also be on the phone with Aetna to understand exactly why I was denied and what criteria I need to do to get approved. And how often can she submit to be approved for this surgery, if they end up denying the appeal? This can't be the end of it forever. Push on. Make them tell u how to get this approval! I'm sorry she has to go thru this and I wish u guys all the luck. I hope Aetna relents and gives the damn approval!! -
Congrats guys for being recently rearranged!! [emoji6] All of those things u describe should be gone within another week or 2. I am only 4 weeks out but it feels like I was in the hospital forever ago, oddly enough. The hard part is coming up, which involves the new way to eat, drinking so much water, new exercise regimen (if u didn't have an established one before), and basically waiting, wishing, wanting every week for the weight to pour off. That's actually the most frustrating part, at least for me it has been. Seeing others on here lose so quickly should be an inspiration but it can be a frustration, personally. So I hope the fat falls off the bones for y'all, but if it doesn't, you're not alone. We're here for u, to give u pep talks! [emoji5] I wish u guys all the best of luck!! Dont ever hesitate to reach out to ur medical teams with any concerns. You'll also find so much support on here too, which has been awesome! Take care, don't push ur pouches too soon, and remember, even if a certain food or liquid is on ur 'ok to ingest' list, always listen to ur body. It may not like that food now, so don't force yourself.

Exhausted All. The. Time
Amburmist replied to Amburmist's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're right, we do have just about the same stats! Cool beans! Ya, I'm getting plenty of protein in, daily from 80-120 grams. Too much actually...my NUT just told me yesterday that I need to ingest a MAX of 80 g protein a day, not a minimum. Oops. I, too, am working on making exercise part of my daily or every other day schedule. Being this tired it's difficult to muster the strength to do what needs to be done every day, let alone incorporate walks. Even when I do walk (Ive been good about it for the past 7 days), it doesnt wake me up, which I think is strange. Gotta be done tho, I know. I wish u luck with that, as well. The low on iron suggestion is a good thought. I shouldn't be that low on iron yet, I wouldn't think, only being post surgery for 1 month. But I'll check in with my team, see what they think. Because I cannot continue day to day being this tired. It's painful...and I don't want to fall asleep at work, or driving, or cooking dinner for the fam, you know? I just want the weight to fall off quicker (only down 13lbs) and to have more energy. Is that too much to ask?! [emoji57] -
Surgery didn’t work?
Amburmist replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wait...you've lost NOTHING since going from band to sleeve? Nothing at all after 18 months?? That's devastating esp after we do these things to our bodies. I def would consider going to bypass, but hell, I'm frustrated with my own slow loss rate so maybe I'm not the best one to recommend that to u. [emoji4] Sounds like u need some type of revision tho. I was told by my surgeon that going from band to bypass, as I did, my weight loss was going to be slower than people who haven't gone from band to another procedure, so I'm trying to be tolerant with my slow weight loss. But I'm only 1 month out. You're 18 months out and should be seeing results by now. So yes, I would FULLY consider another type of revision. To what, tho, I don't know. What are u leaning towards? -
Surgery didn’t work?
Amburmist replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
U sound like me![emoji24] I had bypass on 9/13 and I've only lost 13lbs. What's supposed to be inspiring seeing all these posts about people dropping vast amounts of weight in a short timeframe is actually discouraging to those of us who aren't in that lucky bunch. I've been told, tho, that those lucky 'losers' may have a lot more weight to lose than us, or are starting at a higher weight than us, or perhaps they are exaggerating a bit. Who knows? Mainly, everyone's been telling me that comparing to others is unproductive, everyone's journey is different. I know....I just can't help seeing all those types of threads on here and feel defeated!! I sent my whole food log to my NUT just yesterday, in fact, to see what she could tell me since I'm so frustrated with my slow weight loss. Turns out, there ARE a few things I need to address. So I agree with previous poster that u should also do this. What we think we're doing 100% right and accordding to plan may not be as close as we thought. For example, I was eating between 700-900 cals a day and getting a MINIMUM of 70g of protein a day, often 90-120g. Turns out, my docs plan wants me at NO MORE THAN 600 cals a day, 80g max protein a day. And here i thought i was following the plan by the book! [emoji52] I sympathize with u a million times over and wish u luck as the days, weeks, months continue on. I hope ur weight starts to pour off and u get to post the exciting news!! Take care! -
I'm happy you're happy losing 6-10lbs a month, but I have 140lbs to lose, got the bypass, and am NOT happy losing 13lbs a month.

My husband vaped (he quit when i quit cigs) using the type of ecig u used and I tried to wean off cigarettes with it but couldn't, so I just quit using Chantix. Besides, the doc wanted me completely nicotine free prior to surgery and ran a test a week prior to preop to make sure. Anyhow, the vape for me didn't adequately satisfy my smoking cravings, for whatever reason. Though, I've known plenty of people who have been helped with ecigs, so it's definitely a viable option for some. Plus, they have zero nicotine juices, so if i did like vaping, i would probably just smoke that juice. I dont know...i just loved smoking and it helped me not eat when I got hungry, too. I just miss it.

I am in the same situation as u are...and I had RnY gastric bypass. I feel like I'm doing everything by the book and the weight is just not moving. I had surgery 9/13 and am down only 13lbs. Like WTH?! And I can't eat or smoke to comfort myself, so I just feel like I'm stewing (mmm..stew!!) in my anxiety about not losing more weight. ☹
