Too much exercise is feeding my stall! Who Knew????
Amburmist replied to BigUtahMan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
While technically speaking a pound of fat is the same weight as a pound of muscle, thats not really what folks are saying when they say 'muscle weighs more than fat'. Because the scale shows them weighing more even tho they've lost fat. So i guess the better statement instead would be 'the muscle theyve gained weighs more than the fat theyve lost'. But thats just mincing words. We all know what is happening and what is meant when someone says 'muscle weighs more than fat'. No need to be irritated because they werent all scientific about their explanation, right? [emoji4] -
Hernia Repair?
Amburmist replied to Excitedforthesleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same thing. I didnt even know i had a hernia repair until AFTER surg. And hell yes it hurt...so so bad! But it gets better. About 1 week it took to feel better in my chest when id take a deep breath. Every day is less and less pain. U got this! It gets better before u know it! -
Heres my 2 cents: 1. Dont get gummies. They're not very well absorbed and thus you aren't going to get ur required nutrients from them. 2. While it may seem to be pricey buying the Bariatric Advantage brand, u only need their Multi chew and their calcium chews if u go that route. And a b12 sublingual from any brand. If u go the non Bariatric Advantage route, u gotta worry about buying bottle after bottle after bottle of different vitamins and minerals to satisfy ur requirements. Add all those different bottles up, who knows how much total ur spending. ALL your vitamin and mineral requirements are in the Bariatric Advantage Multi chew and calcium chew. I have 1 bottle/1 package: I take 2 multis a day from the bottle and 3 calciums a day from the bag. Thays it. And the b12 sublingual once/week. Just found it a lot easier and less stressful to go the B.A route than to worry about all that other stuff. We have enough to worry about, especially the first few months, without adding all the stress of which vitamin and which store and when its on sale and etc. Maybe after the first few months when ur feeling more secure with how to eat and live then u could venture out and piecemeal ur vitamin requirements together, but right now, I'd go the BA route. Ps. I have nothing financially to do with BA. Just my personal opinion and what i found helped me tremendously, at least so soon after this life changing event. I'm 1 mo postop. Good luck with whatever u choose.

I am 4 weeks post op and this week, since monday eve, ive had bubble guts and diarhea. When i spoke to my surgeon, he said there is a nasty stomach bug going around right now and to go ahead and take Imodium. That said, im 4 weeks postop, so i dont know if Imodium is ok no matter how soon postop u are?? Also, I had diarhea within that first week post op too..actually it was like pure water... bleh... but it was normal, i was told, for that first week. I say all this to say, call ur doc, just to make sure they're ok with u: #1) having diarhea and #2) taking Imodium being so soon out of surgery. Good luck!

Did you continue to lose weight after 1 year post op?
Amburmist replied to bostonmama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congratulations@Introversion. Thanks also for posting that ur monthly losses were slow. My weightloss has been slow (im 1 mo out from bypass) and its been a little unexpected and worrying. So, Im inspired and hopeful to see u lost 100lbs, slow and steady. -
Feeling very defeated!!!!
Amburmist replied to Doreen0716's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree. Do not weigh every day. Once a week, at the least. Sullie - quick wuestion. What types of small meals do u eat? Can u give a few examples? Im a month post op and cant really find things to eat. I only have things like cottage cheese, string cheese, yogurt, eggs, beans, apples and peant butter in my list. I dont know what else to eat. Thanks! -
I also had to wait a week postop before taking my vitamins. After 1 week, i was able to begin taking my vitamins. I was also able to swallow suprisingly large capsules, prescribed by my surgeon. Since every surgeons instructions seem to be different, you probably want to call them and ask, as James suggested.

Hi GB family. I need some support today as im feeling super discouraged. As I browse through the message boards here, I see so many people who are currently in or past my current situation (18 days post op) and seem to be doing miles better than I feel I am. ☹ Like...why have i only lost 10lbs?!! I am disgusted with myself when i see others having lost 30lbs the 1st month or 80lbs 3 months out. I think to myself, "great...just another failed attempt to lose weight.' [emoji24] What if I never lose 80lbs (i have ~130lbs to lose)? Im so afraid of failing again, especially since I've taken such a drastic route. Like...why do I feel hungry, particularly in the mornings? I thought we werent really supposed to feel hungry anymore! So many threads, folks are barely able to eat, and when they do, theyre barely able to eat 2-4oz, when here i am not having a problem eating that amount regularly. Whats wrong with me?? Like...am i the only one this ISNT going to work for?? I just feel really depressed, discouraged, and frustrated. Any thoughts? Thank u in advance for taking the time to respond.

Im feeling like a failure...already
Amburmist replied to Amburmist's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just re-read thru your response above again and i am really inspired by it. I am going to try and live by some of the 'rules' u hold urself to: be positive, be forgiving to myself, breathe, just slow down, and really just try to enjoy life. I like those philosophies! Thank u for that post. Heck, as long as Im following my plan, am healthy, and the scale numbers are moving -and moving down- I need to learn to be happy with that. Thanks again for taking the time to respond. -
Newbie here! Introduction! Looking for support!
Amburmist replied to brennajohnson14's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Absolutely you will be very happy to get rid of the band. The band was bad. No reflux for me. Ive been real good, little pain after the 1st week postop. I notice im really hungry, for skme reason, in the morning. Its weird, lol. Afternoon and evening i can go for hours without eating. Plus, continuing to work on the "head hunger" when Im home and bored, or sleepy. Otherwise, everything is great except for the slow A rate of weightloss. -
Slow and steady loss normal?
Amburmist replied to mom@teamjack's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@johnnycakes - please stop ending ur posts with "people will ##%* about anything". Its deflating and makes people feel bad when they already feel bad. I believe u had a great weightloss journey and rhats great, but others may need extra support, which is okay! Others have expectations, legit ones or not, set by feedback on these boards or in our support groups, and they're not being met and it's frustrating. Please say less harsh words, if u really want to be empathetic and supportive, as I know u can because I've seen other supportive posts uv made that do not say things like that. So please, its not helpful when u chastise. Its just not. Many people have told u that, so my request to u shouldnt be surprising. Can u just try?@mom@teamjack - i can appreciate your question and concern. When we see all the 'melting off of lbs' posts or when in support groups with thin women who say their journey was with high monthly pound losses, u wonder if there something wrong with what ur doing or if theres anything else we can incorporate into our plans in order to have those same results. My journey has been slow as well, and its frustrating. Started at 310lbs 1 month ago when i had bypass surgery. Im at 298 now. 12lb loss (which in and of itself would be good), but the first 9lbs loss was in the first week post op. Been going up and down with the 3lbs these last 3 weeks and i have no clue why. Ive had zero postop complications, which is awesome! But am feeling a ways about the last 3 weeks. I was so hopeful that first week post op with 9lbs down too... anyway, good luck with the downward momentum from here on out! Hopefully it will be just that...downward, no matter how fast or slow! Band over bypass? Stretched pouch or stretched stoma or both?
Amburmist replied to snoopboxermidget's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I personally wouldnt put that dang band back in my body for nothing! I had the band in 2007 amd just had it taken out Sept 13th and revised to bypass. The band being in my body was horrible for most of the 10 years it was in. Its a foreign object and bodies dont generally like foreign object setting up shop in them. Good luck with ur decision tho. I can appreciate ur frustrations and would be looking for solutions too. So i wish u luck in the next oart of ur journey, whatever u decide. -

Amburmist replied to brennajohnson14's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Good luck! A lot of ur story mirrors my own. Had the lapbad and only lost 30lbs (that was in 2007). Now on Sept 13 2017 (10 yrs later), I had bypass. I thought this was going to finally be the tool to help me. In 1 month since my bypass, I've only lost 12lbs, and 9 of those 12 were lost in the first week post op! So frustrating! Especially with how excited i was to get bypass surgery! I am not trying to discourage you by any means, I just want to put realistic expectations out there for u. All the wonder tales posted here and told in group settings, about 40lbs lost 1st month or 70lbs down in 3 months, stuff like that, isn't necessarily a given. I dont know how they're doing that kind of loss and I'm not, but everybody's different. This procedures gotta help tho, right?! I gotta keep telling myself that. [emoji4] I hope your journey goes better than mine has so far. I wish i could give u advice to ensure urs goes amazingly but I'm following by the book and none too happy, so not sure what advice to give u. Although, the MOST positive thing is that I've had zero postop complications. None. That is fantastic and I'm happy about that part. On a separate note, Valley of the Sun, huh? Awesome! I am here too!! Who's your bypass surgeon, if ur comfortable answering? Mine is Dr Swain, whom I adore! -
One month Post-Op...only 6lbs lost!
Amburmist replied to amandaaok's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh@amandaaok, i so know EXACTLY what ur saying. I was just crying to my husband not 30 minutes ago asking the same thing: what is wrong with me? I had gastric bypass a month ago (Sept 13) and I left the hosp at 310lbs (Im 5'9"). I weigh myself every monday and last Monday i was 298. 12lbs?!? Seriously? The majority of that 12lbs loss was the first week when i lost 9lbs. Since then, the last 3 weeks, I've been up and down with the same 3 godforsaken pounds. I mean WTF?!?! I wasn't expecting that right after rearranging my insides, rearranging my eating completely by eating a max of 500-800 cals/day, ~90g protein/day, and exercising 30 mins 3x week that I would go up and down ONLY 3lbs in 3 weeks so soon after surgery, the supposed "prime time" for losing our excess weight?!! I had the lapband in 2007 and only lost 30lbs then. Ten years later i have an extreme WLS and have lost 3lbs in 3 weeks right outta the gate? That's the rate of weight loss one is supposed to have with a normal anatomy on a normal diet plan, not one with a bypass anatomy on a restrictive diet for goodness sakes!! I'm such a disappointment! [emoji24] So, I say all that to say...I absolutely relate with u amanda and know exactly how u feel right now. I dont know what else to do either... -
My surgeon told me to take the stimulant Milk of Magnesia if i want to force my body to go. Then after taking MoM and 'cleaning out' he said i could go on Miralax to keep my BMs consistent. Miralax isn't a stimulant like MoM so it wont force the stool out, its design is to make the poop easier to pass since it pulls water to ur stool. Whatever u decide, good luck! Nothing worse than not having regular, easy to pass BMs.

Feeling very defeated!!!!
Amburmist replied to Doreen0716's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats quite a bit of calories. My surgeon recommends to not exceed 600 cals a day. Honestly there are so many differing instructions all of these surgeons give. The bottom line I've found is to just listen to ur own body. Even if your plan/surgeon says to go up to 1000 cals, if that hurts u right now, then only ingest what's comfortable to u. If ur plan says its ok to eat chicken but everytime u do, it hurts and gets stuck, don't eat chicken. YOU decide what u can do based on what ur body tells u. Listen to ur body!! Sounds like 900-1000 cals, for u, is too much. Maybe cut back a couple hundred cals. See how that feels. U know what i mean? Good luck hun. -
Is everyone who is still smoking PREop? Anyone POSTop and still smoking?

Amburmist replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Finnix Just kidding, I've reported no one. I'm sure the moderator has other threads they are needed on, where REAL insults and misbehavior is going down. The real troll has already been removed from the thread, which was valid and necessary. The remaining posts haven't been worthy of reporting, imo. We are grown women (and men), long since past our tattletaling days, and I think we can behave and have healthy debates without mommy and daddy giving out 'spankings'. Dont u? Lol -
Surgery didn’t work?
Amburmist replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Finnix, I see uv found someone else to bully. I also see uv resorted to name calling (calling her 'juvenile') and bullying/insulting behavior (making fun of her spelling) that you so like to say are against the guidelines. Tsk tsk. I hope the admin/moderator takes note, as I've reported u, as well. Have a nice day.[emoji4] -

Amburmist replied to Amburmist's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You're right, good points! Congrats in being ahead of the bell curve! What is the bell curve, based on your docs stats? Like how much have u lost in 3 weeks? What was your start weight? I don't go back to my doc until 2 months out (Nov 13) so I wonder if he will have something like that. Im excited to see! -
You got that right, that we have to learn what the new full feels like. For me, its completely different than before I had the surgery. Like u said, it's like a discomfort in the chest area, almost like the food has gotten stuck or backed up. That tells me 'ooop, gotta stop! Must be my new full feeling!'

Surgery didn’t work?
Amburmist replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! Are u serious? Are u sure ur reading MY responses? NEVER once have called u a name. Not once. And never once have I bullied u and asked why are u on this app. You continue to exaggerate my responses in an attempt to get the moderator to ban me for things I HAVEN'T done or for words I've NEVER uttered. Now this is where I get upset for you slandering me, accusing me of things i haven't done, and bulling ME with ur responses. How about YOU lay off?! I tried to extend u the olive branch at the end of my last post but all u did was drag it thru the mud saying how it was received as "insulting, condescending and insincere" when it was anything but! That is YOUR interpretation, your illusion, not reality! At this point, you are reading into everything I say and twisting my words..why...in an attempt to have the creator believe I am misbehaving when im not. Why?? So you can reply to people, comment and opinionate but I can't and when I do, all of a sudden I'm being a bully??? Listen lady, how about YOU stop being rude to ME! How about YOU push the ignore button on ME?! I feel you are attempting to silence and push ME around, how about that. Go ahead and respond as if i said something cruel, even tho I've attmepted to end on a nice note with u. U have not tried, not once, to make nice. You continue to respond with negativity and hostility and refuse to accept peoples apologies and olive branches. U did it with lace and ur doing it now with me. There was ZERO insincerity in my best wishes and u twisted my words to crap. That was rude and mean and unnecessary. Please DO NOT RESPOND to me. We've said all that needs to be said to each other, this convo has long since been productive, and its run its course. If u do respond, i will see ur response as harassment. There's nothing nice or calming u have ever said to me, all u do is blame me for things I've not done, twist my words into ideas and meanings that aren't there, and refuse to stop being the victim. We are thru. Good day. -

Surgery didn’t work?
Amburmist replied to Lacecute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't understand if this was a thread you didn't like why did you chose to click on it, read thru 14 pages of it, and then join in on it? You involved yourself hun, no one forced you to read it. There are thousands of other threads on this app/webpage. I am certainly not 'bullying' you or 'trying to control' you, certainly not any more than you are 'bullying' and 'trying to control' us (although those are interesting choices of words, a little overly dramatic and aggressive, dont u think?) I see it as you sharing your OPINIONS, just like the rest of us are. Perhaps you don't like the opinions...so again I ask, why did you decided to stop and insert yourself into a thread you were thoroughly disgusted with? Especially after it was already concluded. And just to tell a bunch of strangers how dissapointing we are to you??? Uhhh...ok. Now, enough of all that talk above. What I really would like to conclude my response to you with is....a big congratulations! Honestly! [emoji106] What an amazing accomplishment to have lost 100lbs in 4 months. Not an easy feat to accomplish. In fact, I think this thread (and many out there) was started by a young lady who is frustrated at the slow pace of which her weight is coming off. So, the fact that you were able to not only lose 100lbs in 4 months but also accomplish your weightloss goals in such a short amount of time is fantastic!! Keep up the great work! I wish you all the best! [emoji5]
