    Protein Cookie?

5 months, 65lbs down. Congrats! Can u tell some of how u accomplished that? Like how many cals/day did u ingest? What did u eat on a daily basis? Exercise regimen? Height? Starting weight? Thanks!
  2. YES!! I feel ur exact frustration right now!! Bypassed on Sept 13. Lost 9lbs the first week which was probably just water weight, NOTHING for 2 weeks, had stomach flu for a week, couldn't eat so i lost 11lbs, then the last 4 weeks, NOTHING! So 20lbs since surgery 2 months ago but none of it was from following my plan, diet, exercise. The weeks of doing just that, the scale hasn't moved a dot! I'm beyond frustrated! Don't know what else to do. Here are my deets, per my teams instructions: Max cals/day 600 (80g proteins, Aerobic exercise 30-40 mins/day for 5 days/wk 5'9" SW 310 I'm with the OG poster...HELP!!! What else can I do to get the scale moving? I thought losing weight was all about calories in v.s. calories out. Apparently not! My team says i should be at goal weight between 12-18 months. How, when the scale won't move?? I admit I do feel inches lost based on the fit of my clothes, but to get to goal, the darn scale has to move! Please, keep the suggestions coming. I'm willing to try most anything!

    weight loss normal?

Apple, the problem is that it wasn't 3lbs a week. It was 9lbs the week after surgery and 11lbs after 1 week of having the stomach flu. That's it. Otherwise, week after week the scale remains the same. If it WERE 3lbs a week, do u know how happy I'd be? That would be wonderful!! But it's not. Remove the 1 week of me in the bathroom and not eating anything period and I'd have only lost 9lbs in 23 weeks, which would piss me off even more. So I have no idea why my body is just holding on to the weight but it's ridiculous, especially when I always thought losing weight was simple biology/math: calories in vs calories out. Obviously it isn't because im only eating 600 cals a day, certainly not enough for a 300lb woman to maintain her current weight.

    weight loss normal?

Sounds better than me. 310 at start on Sept 13, now im 287. 23lbs in 8 weeks (2 months!). What a crock of **** this procedure is, for me at least! Ive been the same damn weight for the last 3 weeks, then 2 weeks prior, i was the same damn weight for 3 weeks. Only reason i lost weight was because straight outta surg (iv probably) and i got sick and couldnt eat another week. But being not sick, eating right, exercise ever single day...nothing. You have no idea how disappointed i am at this procedure in me. Its not like its been 10lbs a month either. Like i said, it was 10lbs loss in 1 week from sickness, 9lbs first week out...and thats it. Im so disgusted.

    Phase 3 diet

I was on broths post surgery for 1 week. After that, i got to eat soft meats (chicken, fish, turkey, tuna), yogurts, eggs, cott cheese, beans, fruit, cooked veg - not blended and whipped, just regular. This is for 2 months. Coming up on my 2 mo visit, when i get opened up to be able to eat raw veggies (ie, SALADS!,) and most other things. Only after 6 MONTHS can i eat grains, nuts, bread, rice, pasta. It all just depends on the doctor. Each ones plans are different.

One Month Out- Eating A LOT

Nah, man, head hunger is all too real! Mine mostly rears its ugly head when I'm bored or real tired. Then, all I want to do is eat, even though I don't have any other symptoms of hunger, such as rumbling tummy, difficulty concentrating/focusing, shaky, or irritability. If I'm bored enough, I can even talk myself into being legitimately hungry. My team once told me people are truly hungry only 20% of the time. The other 80% is 'head hunger'. Let's be honest, we as humans really don't need all that much food to sustain, so to think were always hungry legitimately is probably us just fooling ourselves.

    So. Much. Water!

Thx for ur honesty. How did ur weightloss go? Are u at goal? Did u lose quickly or are u a slow loser like i am? My doc said im a slow loser because i cant get in at least 64oz of water, so i keep tryping. But ya, it seems like an unrealistic expectation for the long haul. Not many people drink that much on a regular basis, right?! I totally sympathize with you on this! I am also a slow loser and it is unbelievably frustrating! Yes, I know, 'don't let the scale get u down' or 'don't weigh urself so often', blah, blah, blah. The fact of the matter is that we are all here to lose LBs and get that scale number to go down, down, down and when u are doing everything according to the teied and true post-op plan, ingesting only 600 or less calories a day, walking/exercising daily, NOT eating what u really wanna eat, yet the scale STILL doesn't move [much], it's so demotivating, ya know?! The scale numbers going down day after day or week after week is the BEST motivation! Without that, what's gonna help me power forward? I guess i can say the only thing giving me hope to not completely give up, like i sure would have prior to surgery, is that I feel the loss in my clothes. I don't see it in the mirror, or in the scale numbers, but I DO feel it in my clothes. Thankfully! It's something! Also, I keep telling myself that my body can't possibly maintain all this fat and weight if I'm consistently only feeding it 600 cals a day, when it needs a minimum of 2, 000 (on average) cals just to maintain. It's "simple" math and biology - cals in vs cals burned/out, right? So I have to be patient. No quitting now, not after changing the piping!! I can't! I won't! Good luck to u! Keep going! Stay on track! The fat will eventually come off! (right?!?! [emoji6])

    Protein Cookie?

Heres what numbers my team has given me for guidelines, PER DAY: Calories: up to 600 Protein: 60-80g Fat: less than 25g Carbs: less than 60g -- Net Carbs: less than 35g (regular Carbs minus Fiber = Net Carbs) Fiber: up to 25g Water: at least 64oz Sugar: Wasnt given sugar gram guidelines. Exercise: 30-60 mins (or 150-300 mins/week - a week being 5 days) Hope this helps. Seems to be working fine for me. Though, I'm sure everyone one on this app has been given different numbers for their micros, since each doc/nutritionist has their own idea of dieting success. These numbers are just recommendations based on my team. Tweek ur daily numbers as ur body sees fit is always the best plan of attack! Good luck!

    Protein Cookie?

Oh, thank u!! I may have to try them, as long as the carb content is also low.

    Disappointed by food

    ^^^^^^ 100% on point!!! ^^^^^^

    Protein Cookie?

I hear ya. I think its that crunch we're craving. Since i cant have crackers or chips or really anything "carby" until 6 months post, i ceave things too, so i dont blame ya. Im having a pickle right now to try and staunch my crunch craving, even though its salt content is probably drying me out something fierce!

One Month Out- Eating A LOT

I feel the same as u. Im about 2 mos out. Head hungers a b--ch!!! I try to eat non fatty things when that happens, like a big a pickle. It helps my crunch craving. But i feel u. My options are still limited and im sick of the like 5 items in my rotation, so my head hungwr starts kicking in something fierce. [emoji53]

    Protein Cookie?

36g of carbs is the max im supposed to have in a day. So to eat it in one sitting wouldnt be so good. Same with the quest bar. My NUT said those protein bars arent very good for us, that theres plenty of other healthy snacks out there without so many carbs. To each his own, tho. I guess id rather just eat a regular cookie, which probably doesnt have anywhere near that level of carbs, and be done with it. They tell u that sometimes...that diet products can be worse than the full fat ones!

    Vitamins

Definitely Bariatric Advantage. Its more costly but i only have to buy 1 multi since it has everything we need in it, and 1 calcium citrate. Easy breazy. And they're super tasty!
  15. U are going to be SOOOO happy to have that band out..in just a few short days. Don't worry. U made the right decision. Good luck to u on ur journey!
  16. When u say that u had to consume more, can u give a bit more details surrounding "more"? Like if normally u consumed 60-80g of protein/day, what did u up it to? Same with calories, what did u up them to? Thanks for the addtl info!
  17. Some people completely lose the feeling of hunger, others do not, unfortunately. Although, I've found it's just not that gnawing, starving feeling anymore like I'd get preop. But I do still feel like I get hungry just as often. But more importantly, don't stress and get nervous wondering if u made the right decision. Presumably, you've already done all ur research, talked to ur surgeon about any concerns, rules, plans post op, etc, so trust in yourself that you HAVE made the right choice for u. U can scare yourself reading these boards! [emoji4] But just know, everyone's journey post-op is different and u may not experience any of these things (ie, some folks are never hungry anymore and have to set timers just to remember to eat. So there's that other side of the coin). You'll do fine! Have faith in yourself that u made the right choice, think positive thoughts, and buckle up for the next chapter of ur life!! [emoji6] Good luck hun!!
  18. I don't want to rain on ur parade or lessen the wonderful rate of weight loss of 68lbs in 3 months, but that's not generally the norm, especially if u start out having less weight to lose. Generally u may lose big the first couple weeks but after that, it slows down to a few lbs a month...yes, i said a FEW lbs a MONTH. It can be agonizingly slow. Hell, even me having over 100lbs to lose, I'm right at about 2 months post-op and am only down 23lbs. I hate that my weightloss is going so slowly, but i just have to keep with the plan and eventually my body has to let go of the fat. Somone told me once, and it made sense, that yes, everyone's body is different...but, know that the people who are losing lots of weight quickly are excited so u see a lot of those types of posts. And it IS wonderful. But many folks who are losing super slow aren't posting, so u can get a skewed idea of really how slow the weight loss can truly be. Just keep that in mind.
  19. Congrats on getting rny! I had mine done 9/13. Ive had no vomiting. I had diarhea the day after surgery, then again 3 weeks ago from stomach flu. Usually people are having really bad constipation. I did, until the stomach flu! I chew a lot of things to emulsification but other things just normal. You will get a feel for it. I havent heard about the teeth thing. Possibly because of excessive vomiting? Or vitamin deficiency? Not sure. Havent had dumping yet either. I stay away from the foods, so far, that could cause it. Im too scares! Youre gonna do great! Follow the rules and u will be fine! Good luck!

    Stupid Smoking

Hi! Thanks for looking. I knew all the hazards of smoking but what I'm curious about is exactly what part of cigarettes causes this damage to the wound and stomach? Is it the tar? Chemicals? Nicotine? So, in other words, vapes have none of the tar or chemicals that cigarettes have, except for the nicotine. So if it's only the tar and chemicals in actual cigarettes that cause wound and stomach issues, presumably one could vape without those same woumd and stomach risks. That's the part I'm trying to figure out.
  21. Hi@seastars. I've been catching up on this thread here of urs from about year ago, as i feel almost every emotion u were conveying here in this thread towards my own slow rate of weight loss now. So I'm dying to know how the past year has gone for you?! I have so many questions: --Did u hit ur goal yet?! If so, when? --how much weight have u lost?? --Did ur body ever end up speeding up ur rate of weight loss per week/per month? --Did u ever find out that "sweet spot" that ur body liked to lose weight on a regular basis, such as X grams protein, X oz water, X mins/hours of exercise a week? Anything else u can share from this journey of slow weight loss would be awesome!

    Need typical day menu

Good point. Some foods make my pouch feel more restrictive than others. That's why my team instructs me to eat by portion, not by time (20mins) because with the foods that aren't as restrictive in my pouch, I'd probably overeat if i just ate to 20 mins, regardless of portion. So I eat to the portion size (2-4oz per meal), up to 20 mins, and then call it. If i do t finish my 2-4 oz by 20 mins, oh well. No more to eat until next meal.

    Before the surgery

Hey Berry, thanks for that correction; yes, RnY bypass IS restrictive AND malabsorptive. Not sure what i was thinking about when i said it wasn't?! Anyway, thx again. I don't want to be the source for misinformation!

    Your opinion about slow loss?

I, too, am a slow loser. I have 110lbs to lose and had my procedure Sept 13th. At 6 weeks out, I've only lost 23lbs, and the recent 10lbs loss was because i had a stomach bug for a 1.5 weeks and wasn't eating/having diarhea. Regardless, we'll go with 23lbs down because i am now 287lbs. Like@introversion said, others would have lost that amount in 2-3 weeks, so it's a little discouraging, to me. I weigh on Sundays and between last Sunday and today, the # on the scale remained the same. That's what's been happening this entire 6 weeks. Week to week, the number is either the same or 1lb difference. I try not to let it affect me but when ur watching what u eat, exercising, and only ingesting 600-700 cals a day, one can't help but feel frustrated and wonder if the weight will ever come off??! Alas, i have no choice (because of the procedure) but to keep going and the number on the scale is going to do what it's going to do. I just wish I could feel encouragement by seeing the numbers drop.@introversion - during that year of slow weightloss, did u have these same doubts? These same concerns?

    Before the surgery

Bypass is not a malabsorbative procedure. Duodenal switch is, but not bypass. Sleeve u can also end up eating more than u were initially (aka stretching) if ur not careful. I think the main difference is the rearranging of internal plumbing. [emoji6] As others have stated, some differences (good, bad, or indifferent) in the two are: With sleeve they remove the cut away stomach, with bypass they do not. With sleeve u can get GERD worse than prior to the procedure, with bypass u won't. With bypass u will have to take supplements forever (and not because of malabsorbtion, but because ur pouch is so small, u can't get as many nutrients thru food bcos u can't eat as much); with sleeve, I'm not sure. There is over 30+ yrs study and research on bypass, sleeve is newer. It probably sounds like i am talking up the bypass procedure but im honestly not trying to. I had the bypass and so far, im happy with my decision. That said, I think the sleeve is very successful procedure, as well, and is actually the procedure people are going with more now these days. Each procedure has its pros and cons (and horror stories), but it will end up being a personal choice for u after hearing and reading all the differences. Good luck!
