saltykisses got a reaction from Rubyfit4life in Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017
Omg seriously! Well guess what?!! Same happened to me on Thursday! Inaurance denied me after every single appt, meeting criteria and even after Drs supposedly verified benefits.
I literally cried the whole day. I found some light at the end of the tunnel the following day. My friend told me about a Dr in same city who will soothe surgery if you have 1) hiatal hernia or 2) need gallbladder removed. I have #1. Dr offers to do sleeve at same time as hiatal hernia repair, I just have to pay the $5k separately. Which i have opted to do!
So crazy we had same thing happen. What was the reason you got denied??!! I thought you were already at the hospital for your surgery the day you posted. -

I'm scheduled for December 19th! I can't believe it's almost here. I have pre surgery and pre op this week where they'll share foods, Proteins etc info that I'll need. I'll be on the 2 week liquid diet.
I've taken tueaday-friday off from work. Monday is Christmas so I'll return on Tuesday. God willing with no complications. I'm wishing everyone a successful month and saying a prayer for your doctor's steady skilled hands and a speedy recovery.
I bought a size 10 skirt just to hang in the closet LOL.
I've had some people tell me if you get through day 3 of liquid diet, then you're good. Thoughts??

Hello! I am new to this forum. My gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for Dec 15th. I am on day one of the pre-op diet, and it is going as expected - I'm hungry lol.
I am a revision from Lap Band. I lived with a Lap Band that had somehow migrated up to the bottom of my esophagus for a good 4 years. I basically had no pouch, and almost everything I ate got stuck. I had lost some weight initially, but it all came back as I ate whatever would go down instead of what was good for me. I had the Lap Band removed in June, and the weight came back on faster than ever. I now weight more than when I initially got the Lap Band.
I'm ready to make the change. I'm older and wiser and tired of being tired. It's time to work.

Hi ~ Welcome to the group. My Countdown for surgery on Tuesday at 8:30am!! I don't know about you but I've been so busy trying to get everything done for Christmas and some things in order. Tomorrow is my last "day" and so much to do.
Over the last week since my pre-op I've been a little anxious but now really excited! I had a lap band and now getting the sleeve. I have done the whole program with lap band and it's the same for sleeve. Let me know if you know to know anything. More than happen to help.

Oh you're such a lucky duck!!
Mr Dr is OCD. And if I do not follow it he will not perform the surgery. So I'm stuck with 2 week liquid diet. Eeekkk!! Your surgery is what date?? -
saltykisses reacted to Jeannie49 in December Sleevers??
lol you're scaring me a bit saltykisses!! lol! I checked with a couple people at work who have been sleeved and they used different surgeons than i'm using and they did not have a pre-surgery liquid diet either..just said not to have a big meal the last couple of days...
now what really makes me nervous is they had to drink a liquid the night before to clean everything out so to speak...i don't have to do that either - not sure if i'm good with this or not lol...but i did call the surgeon and confirmed it!

saltykisses reacted to Introversion in Bypass vs sleeve?
The operating time for a typical gastric sleeve is less than 60 minutes, versus an average of 135 minutes for gastric bypass. The sleeve is definitely the simpler of the two procedures.
My sleeve operation was 30 minutes. In addition, my surgeon spent an extra 1 minute to repair a hiatal hernia. Due to my uncomplicated recovery, I was ready to return to work in 1 week.

saltykisses reacted to Berry78 in Bypass vs sleeve?
No, the sleeve isn't more complicated. Either your surgeon misspoke or you misheard.
There IS risk of leaks during the first 2 months postop, but bypass also has its own set of risks. The complication rate during and right after surgery are about the same for sleeve and bypass. BUT, the further you get from surgery, the sleeve complications drop significantly lower than those of the bypass. (Pretty sure GERD is left out of this statistic).

saltykisses reacted to grindnfool in Bypass vs sleeve?
I'd question your doctors capability. I have no idea how the sleeve could be more complicated than the bypass. I chose the sleeve basically because I had no GERD issues and I wanted to keep the same biological food processing methods as before my surgery. In my mind this minimizes complications over my lifetime
-
saltykisses reacted to mnyap79 in Bypass vs sleeve?
According to my doctor, the sleeve is actually or more complicated surgery and the recovery time is longer. The possibility of leaks is greater in a sleeve then a gastric bypass. Ultimately it's what you feel comfortable with. I know people who have done both. Some have kept the weight off and others have not. It's about what you feel you can maintain.

My husband had a Gastric Sleeve and if he eats anything that is real fatty or sweets he gets the dumping syndrome within 15 minutes.
