I am definitely bringing a book, my Fire Tablet, iPod and headphones, slippers, and lotion (those places are always so dry!) Other than that, I'm not sure. Good luck!!

Pre-op week and in constant pain
drizz75 replied to drizz75's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know, I never even considered Keto flu!!! You may have hit the nail on the head there. I did LCHF for about 8 months a couple years ago (and dropped 45 lbs), and was in ketosis but never had keto flu because I was taking magnesium. I did call the doctor who checks all the meds before surgery, and he said I could take Celebrex, but would still have to stop before surgery. He suggested opioids, but I don't want those. I'll just deal for now. Thanks for your response as well, Suzy. I definitely don't have a fever, just generally achy and whiny. Lol -

I'm not sure what it's called, but my surgeon has been doing a lot of research on it and said he "is probably the only surgeon performing it." I dunno. I had a gastric emptying study, and food is stalling in the small intestine for a very long time, activating hormones. From what I understand, it's almost like you're keeping your body in starvation mode so it tries to hold onto every calorie. My surgeon is going to shorten my small intestine, which they now know should have been done with my initial surgery, but had no idea about it 15 years ago. :-)

Pre-op week. On my mostly protein shake diet and my body is just aching. It feels like arthritis in all my joints. I thought it was just the weather change (Buffalo), but it's nearly constant. I'm not allowed to take Naproxen, only Tylenol, which does nothing. Anyone experience anything like this? I've been trying to stay hydrated and my husband is researching anti-inflammatory teas. Lol

I started mine on Friday, and will have my surgery on November 20. I will be just out of the hospital on Wednesday, so I'm sending my husband to his sister's for dinner and sitting here watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade and relaxing. :-) Best excuse to avoid family dinner. Lmao

I'm on day 4 of my 10 day liver reduction diet and have had a bit if food each day. Usually more veg, some lean protien, or cottage cheese. Mine is very strict (3-4 protein shakes and 1/2 c. Non-starchy veg each day), and I'm confused why I'm even on it, as I am getting a revision that is altering my intestine where the large and small connect, at the opposite end from where the pouch and liver are. I'm going to call the dietician tomorrow to ask about it. All the liquid is killing me, and I'm a teacher and can't just go to the bathroom whenever I want. :-( (Also, this diet is making me whiny. Please excuse my mope.)

I'm assuming that's what I have. I had a gastric emptying study that showed that my food is sitting in my small intestine for a very long time, so I am having a revision on November 20th. Definitely wish they had found it before I had to live with it for 15 years, but glad to filly get it taken care of. Good luck to you! !

Hi there! I'm a special Education teacher and have a daughter with High Functioning Autism. Do headphones work for you? (with or without music) If I was trying to avoid someone from being overstimulated, I would try that first. Congratulations on moving forward with your surgery even though you are uncomfortable. It's really tough when you are at odds with your brain! I wish you the best of luck! -
Good luck!! Just realized I have 1 month until my revision! :-) I wish you the best!!

I hate protein. That weird taste. Ughhh. I bought a tub of chocolate mousse Bariatric Fusion protein powder and I'm amazed by how good it is! No protein taste at all!!!

Your doctor should give you something for nausea. They have the pulls you let melt in your mouth and they work wonders.

Surgery date: October 17...Is 1 day in the hospital enough?
drizz75 replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm hoping for just one day with my revision! If you have any issues at all: slight fever, not drinking enough, numbers are off, etc, the doctor can keep you for as long as he sees fit. -

Abdominal Pain - 13 years post op

About 4 years after my gastric bypass I started having horrible stabbing pains. I went to the ER several times, and they were convinced I had an ulcer. Finally went to the ER in the hospital I had my bypass in. The nurse took one look at me, and said I was being admitted. I had a common bile duct stone that was leftover after my bypass/gall bladder removal, and it had moved and was blocking 3/5 of my liver functioning...and I had developed jaundice. I've also developed kidney stones since my bypass, which has been fun. Good luck. Hope you are out of pain soon! -

That was fast! I was approved on the first try through BCBS. Revison date scheduled with Dr. Caruana (Buffalo, NY) for November 20th. Original surgery was open RNY Gastric Bypass, and now I believe he is performing a revision to the distal small bowel bypass by shortening the common channel to add some malabsorbtion into the game. They did not do this when I had my surgery 15 years ago, and a lot of research has been done since with the hormones centered in this length of bowel and weight loss. I'll clarify and will edit this if needed. They offered me October 23rd, but I needed to give my work time to find a sub and to get off of hormonal birth control. Bought a couple tubs of Bariatric Fusion protein powder today, making bone broth and generally getting mentally prepared for the prospect of 10 days of the liver reduction diet and being on clear liquids for Thanksgiving. (No turkey smoothies. lol) Super excited, as I've been trying to get a revision for about 7 years.
