  1. I am 8 weeks out from bypass surgery.  I seem to be stalled at 40 lbs. (11 of that was before surgery) and I just can't seem to get it to move.  Getting frustrated.  I do walk at least 6 days a week (best I can do now because I work full time and take care of my 86 year old mother who has dementia).  I believe I am getting at least 60 grams of protein in between shakes, protein drink and chicken and turkey, etc.  I hope this is temporary.  Anybody else experience this situation this early in the game? Thank you.

I haven't had a stall, but I want to sympathize with your situation with your mother and dementia. My mother is 83 years old with dementia, and it's a hard, hard road for caretakers. It's taking over my life.

    4 weeks post op

I just hit my four weeks post op today. I am down 20 lbs from surgery date, 30 total. Mine seemed to stall last week as well, but this week seems to be picking back up and since I am now in the Chew Stage of food, it might pick up even more, hopefully. I am taking all of my vitamins and calcium, as well as extra B12 but I just feel so tired. Not sleepy, just tired and I am not used to that at all, I hope this too shall pass. Now the fun part of trying new foods I suppose...

    Time off

I am three weeks out from Bypass. I planned to go back to work (sitting job) after a week. I am pretty strong willed and went back to work one week after rotator cuff surgery (which is horrible by the way and I should not have) but I ended up taking another four days off work. You are so sore and get no sleep, because I had to sleep in a recliner for two weeks and you are up and down all night, can't get comfortable because of the soreness. There was no way for me to go back after a week like I thought I could. But you may be able to, I guess just depends on the individual. Good luck.
  4. My surgery is scheduled next week and I am seriously thinking of putting it off for now. I had prepared myself for a long time for the SADI Loop and then to find out I could only have the gastric bypass, I just don't think I am ready for it. I have done fine on the pre op diet and am on day 9 already, so it is not that. I just don't know if I am prepared to go through the after effect of the surgery and the surgery itself. I need to lose 70 lbs, and I know this is the best way but I am just not sure at this time.
  5. That must be nice. I am on Day 8 of liquids and I can tell you I am sick of it! And then two more weeks of it after surgery. Don't know if I can stomach all of that. Already sick of protein shakes for sure. What type of surgery are you having? It seems funny to me that many surgeons don't do much of a pre op diet but some do a full 14 days. Don't see how they could be so far apart?
  6. I hope you get approved. My doctor told me it was the best and possibly only surgery (other than lap band) for people with Barrett's. My surgery is rapidly approaching on the 10th. Very scared but know it will be good in the end. I have two co workers who had the bypass and both have done well and kept their weight off as well. Good luck.
  7. I was planning to have SADI Loop DS but was told today couldn't have that because of Barrett's. I have read up on gastric bypass tonight because I had not educated myself. Has everyone had good results. Had band removed a year ago, because it eroded and caused a lot of damage .
  8. I know, it seems so extreme. The only thing I can think of is maybe it is because we have to do the same thing for two weeks after the surgery? I don't know. I know I did Quick Weight Loss one time, had a special diet for three days of two eggs, veggies and chicken and an orange and in three days I lost 11 lbs, some people lost 16 or more. I doubt I will lose 11 lbs or so from these two weeks of no eating, but I am sure they have their reasons and as much as I am having to pay, I will follow the directions as I don't want to fail! lol

Hit the 3 week stall :(

But otherwise, how are you doing? Has the three weeks been tough or are you feeling okay? I am getting a little anxious about it all.

Hit the 3 week stall :(

Good to know, since I am having bypass on October 10th and my third week will also be pureed diet stage. I am sure it is because you finally are chewing something. lol Unless your pre op diet allowed food, mine does not and I am only on day 4 and it is so hard.
  11. WOW you are so lucky. lol I am having gastric bypass too and my two week before and two week after is full liquids only! 3-5 Protein shakes, broth, sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles, you can have crystal light, but honestly is is about it and let me tell you it is TOUGH. I am on day four only and my surgery is the 10th.
  12. I am on day 4 of the Pre Op Liquid Diet. It is tough at times. Your mind starts wondering for certain. I can only have broths, protein shakes, sugar free popsicles and sugar free jello. I hope I am not so sick of the shakes by the time my surgery comes on October 10th, because I will have a two week liquid diet after the surgery. I do not start pureed foods until week 3 after surgery I believe. It is a challenge to say the least. Has certainly made me rethink wanting to get the surgery!
  13. That is very good news, I am happy for you. You have lost a lot of weight already.
  14. I have just been reading everything I can get my hands on and these forums are great. Good luck.
  15. Good for you! This helps me feel much better about mine. More than a pound a day, I can handle. lol
  16. That is awesome, sounds like you are doing great and I hope I do as well. thanks for sharing.
  17. that is just amazing and wonderful, very happy for you! Can you share some stories about the food you ate during your journey. I am currently on 14 day pre op, liquid diet. My surgery is October 10th and then I will be on full liquids for two more weeks after surgery. It is tough and getting scared, but you are an inspiration.
  18. That is pretty awesome they are doing this with you and I am sure that will help a lot! Good luck.

    Fluid intake

I was told to drink the Propel Water or Vitamin Water or even Crystal Light to help. I love water so I don't have that problem. I am on my third big glass already today.
  20. October 10th, started pre op liquid diet yesterday. Scared but also excited.

Day 3 on this pre-op diet

I don't get to have any foods, just liquids for 14 days for pre op. It is very hard.
  22. I hear ya! I started my pre op diet yesterday (all liquids) and I tell you, it is hard! My surgery (Bypass) is scheduled in Houston for October 10th. I am questioning myself the same way, can I really not get a handle on my weight by myself and get on some type of clean eating and get the weight off? I go back and forth with this issue and I have tried so many times. I need to lose between 80-100 lbs and that is a lot of weight. I only have to stay one night in hospital, but I don't have all those prescriptions to deal with, just pain medicine, Zofran and B12 I believe. Good luck to you.
